Metro 2033

Why isn't there already a discussion on this game?

It seems this is finally going to get released, after being in and out of development in what seems like forever.

Here's a couple of really good interviews that just recently came out.

It looks really good, but it seems like they've changed alot since I first heard about the game. It was my understanding it was going to be more open and similar to the feel of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, but now a shooter with RPG elements on rails.

I'm fine with a narrow story focus, but I just hope it doesn't sacrifice content.

BTW, I want to get the book, but it's about 23 bucks on Amazon.

Most games are 'on rails', this one apparently no more so than, say, Half-Life or Call of Duty. I'm downloading Call of Pripyat off of Steam as we speak, and I expect great things, but there's room in my life for more than one dystopian eastern European FPS franchise... once this goes down in price, anyhow.

The fact that THQ is publishing it in the US bodes well, as they seem to have a pretty keen eye for PC imports.

Yeah, I'm downloading Call of Pripyat right now too, but this offer on Steam of pre-ordering Metro 2033 and getting Red Faction Guerrilla for free looks so fucking tempting.

Count me in as well in the Stalker: COP downloading (that 20 "loyalty" price was gold).
Interested as hell in this, since AVP is a no go after the reviews and bad word of mouth and I want a STALKER like game for the 360.

9/10 review from Gamesradar

So, its seems its actually going to be Stalker for consoles, since reviews and word of mouth are praising the detailed setting, tense atmosphere and freedom of gameplay, while criticizing the gunplay for being a bit wonky and the difficulty being a bit ruthless.
Count me in.

Played about five hours of review code, Xbox 360 version, and I can’t wait to buy the thing on Friday and finish it off. Amazing game. This is what Stalker should have felt like in terms of atmosphere. It’s very survival horror at times and the conservation of ammunition and general starkness of the environment can makes things genuinely tense.

The gas mask is something you’d think would get annoying but the vague obscurity of view it provides actually helps the tone and the few moments when you break from the tunnels and see ‘topside’ are probably the most amazing stuff I’ve seen on the 360 thus far. It’s up there with Gears of War 2 in terms of graphical power.

This is what has me sold on the game (and I LOVED Stalker)...I've also heard its shock full of "holy shit, holy shit, i'm gonna fucking die in the dark" moments.
Several reviewers are pointing out that the atmophere and characterization of the enviroments and each faction's base is amazing; its seems its pretty much the definitive post-apocalyptic FPS (if you dont count Fallout 3), obviously.
Also, using a manual charger to power up your night vision goggles ina post-apoc game? Genius.
Hell, Im even thinking of tracking the novel down as well after rreading a detailed description of the setting and factions online.

Yeah, the Reds and the Fascists have fantastic designs in the game. They both feel like real groups and their bases have an amazing style to them. This is definitely not a game for everyone, and I know the protracted FEAR style walking nightmares are going to really irritate a lot of people, but in terms of world building and characterisation through design this game is up there with the best of them.

The gunplay may annoy a few people, it falls somewhere between the clunkiness of Fallout 3 and the spryness of Modern Warfare and as such it sometimes feels like you’re fighting with the controls. The gunplay is very arcadey, but it’s built on a foundation of punishing ‘realism’. It’s also genuinely spooky at times.

I didn't even realize this was out. No fanfare whatsoever.

I was hoping for a PS3 release, but alas they aren't doing it. I'll wait for a sale on steam to snatch it up.

Grabbed this off Steam today, rented it but never touched the surface earlier this summer before moving back to America-land, and man I've been missing out on an awesome game. With the graphics setting cranked up this looks so fucking beautiful it sells the setting so easily - feels more shinier than the xbox version. The world is really rich, maybe a little too rich with npc's talking over each other in the populated areas.

Love the combat, but really appreciate the scrounger mentality you have to abide by. There have been several times I've been freaked out at the swarm of mutants coming my way trying not to die or have my npc partner get killed.

Now if only I could get my copy of Stalker to run as smoothly as this game...

Yeah, crank the resolution up, put the settings on high and at times it's downright beautiful. I mean seriously beautiful, as in stop playing and start taking screenshots beautiful. The atmosphere is the best I've seen in an FPS since, well, STALKER. Non military grade ammo sure doesn't hit all that hard, though.
