Why do I get the feeling that pilot was one of those protesters outside of Dogma a decade ago...
Gee, I really need to figure out how to make it through life without ever being wrong. Kevin Smith has clearly figured it out.
His filmography says otherwise.
I'd just kill myself if that happened to me.
My God I think he averages about 20 tweets an hour.
Ha ha! He's fat and we don't like his movies!
I still say that pilot had an agenda. Kevin Smith is a fatty but he's not that big. Either that guy didn't want a celebrity on board for some stupid reason or he had some sort of personal issue with the dude's films.
Which is fair enough, really.
Zing!

A celebrity? Flying into Burbank? Happens all the time. Burbank is a breeze to get through and if a flight can make it in their instead of LAX, I guarantee someone is going to take that route.

I doubt Smith is high enough profile for a pilot to even know about. I'm guessing that he's just that big.

I saw Smith at a burger place in LA last summer. He really is that big. At times, he agrees. He even bought two seats, but a flight change left him with just one. He knows the situation.

He claims that he flew out there (and back--on the flight he was bumped to) by fitting in 1 seat with the arm rests down and no seat belt extender, so who knows wtf happened.
His Smodcast pretty much explains everything. I feel for the guy - this wasn't cool and we all know people this could happen to.

Smodcast, by the way, is excellent, and better than his movies.
It would be hilarious if the pilot was a Conan fan. Smith's outspoken support for Leno is only slightly more grating than most of his movies.

Let's pretend for a second that we live in the Bizarro World where Kevin Smith would get kicked of a plane for a reason other than being a great big fat person, and then have that reason covered up by a conspiracy within Southwest Airlines. Considering all of the perks I'm sure Kevin Smith receives because he is Kevin Smith (clearly he has no problems being seated in restaurants), I can't muster too much sympathy when he is made to suffer an indignity for that same reason.

The possibility of a (that's ONE) pilot being a douche because he doesn't like a guy is a conspiracy?

As for Southwest, they're just trying to make good after some embarrassment. I never included their actions in any of my posts soooo, yeah. Keep inferring, sister.

Weird that Smith was flying coach.

I guess the "Milking your fans for every last dollar via shameless merchandising" business isn't what it used to be. I smell a Clerks 3...

He used to do a regular segment on Leno's Tonight Show.

Southwest doesn't have first class. He may have just been trying to save some money.
I hope the Captain told Smith to 'get off my plane'

Was the pilot-who-hates-Kevin-Smith fired, suspended, or otherwise reprimanded? If not, then that would would be an indication of Southwest's tacit approval of his actions. And since they have publicly stated Smith was asked to leave due to protocol, they have also decided to lie about what really happened.

Now, what is that word for when a group of people collude to cover something up? It's right on the tip of my tongue...

I think you should definately continue with your vindictive fanboy pilot theory.
TCD, you're right. I was implying Southwest Airlines is in on it. And yes Arjen, it's impossible to believe a guy that pissed off certain religious groups years ago would have a misguided enemy or two that does something stupid when given the opportunity.

Do I actually believe this is what happened? Who knows... it was just fun to talk about in this particular thread. It's not like I derailed a Moon thread or something. Really people, lighten up. WTF is wrong with everyone today?

I wonder if Smith went "do you know who I am?"
I've never been much into Kevin Smith's films, but something about this is just weird and wrong. Poor guy. That's a shitty thing to be singled out for like that.

I know they weigh the luggage and can't be over a certain weight, but Smith had a seat...did they really think he was going to bring the plane down?
Jon Peters flies planes now? (ugh).
Don't feel much sympathy for him. Getting that obese is(usually) your own damn fault. Getting fat is totally a choice you make when you decide to eat badly and not exercize enough.

And the arm rests were down and he has been able to buckle the seat belt. That's according to the Smodcast that he recorded right when he got home from the flight.

I don't think anyone should say this is done for publicity for COP-OUT. That movie isn't being sold as a Kevin Smith film and how does the director getting tossed off a plane for being too fat raise the public's interest in seeing it?
Pretty fucked up on Southwest Airlines and/or the pilot's part. He was already seated and everything. I'm not a fan of Smith's work anymore, but I do like the guy and hope (admittedly stupid)shit like this gets him in the zone to lose some weight and live longer.
If he was in his seat with arm rests down and seatbelt on whats the problem.

I think the pilot is in for some bad karma in the future.

For picking on Kevin Smith? Fuck that. If Karma exists, this guy is attaining Samsara.

Let's hope you're not in his plane when karma catches up with him.

The situation is a little suspect. He was ALREADY seated and I always thought airlines refuse obese passengers BEFORE they board. Hrm.

Also, when will Kevin Smith stop wearing those ridiculous shorts? So horrible.
I don't think there's any conspiracy. At worst the Airline made a late call in upholding their own policy, and I'm sure there was a better way to do it, but it's not as vindictive as Smith and some people are making out.

"Fat man gets angry when Airline upholds policy about Fat people"

Smith will just be one of those people who will never lose weight. Or certainly never lose enough. The worst thing is that he knows he needs to lose the weight, he's talked about it multiple times, and honestly there's no reason for him not to do it. It's really not that hard. Expend more calories you consume Kevin, you'll be thankful for it.

And I say all this as a fat bastard who is finally wising up to being healthy.

Being someone who has been on a plane, seated next to a putrid smelling fatty who flopped over into both seats on either side of them, I say "Too fucking bad Smith, loose some goddammned weight and quit blaming everybody else for your problems."

I'm sure he'll take it to heart.
Wasn't Smith just a few short months back telling a tale of woe where a commode shattered under the weight of his jumbo ass? Jesus, if that weren't a wake up call to call Jenny Craig I don't know what is.
Yeah, I linked it above.

I'm not unsympathetic to the plight of the chubby (I'm racing up the charts lately myself), but I fly quite a bit, and there's really just no way Smith could be in one seat with the armrests down in any manner considered correct, safe, or comfortable for anyone in that row.
You guys are ignoring the fact that the pilot averted a potential catastrophe!

Suppose they kept Smith on the plane, and right over Burbank he broke through the floor of the plane? The whole plane would de-pressurize, killing all the crew and passengers, plus some poor family would be wiped out when Smith fell through their ceiling!

I can picture it now; a family of four are at the dinner table, the youngest child excuses himself to go the bathroom, he's in there doing his business, when WHAM! he hears a crashing noise, goes back to the dinner table only to see Kevin Smith has flattened his parents and sibling! For years after, that child would be traumatized by the memory of the day when Clerk's Kevin Smith squashed his family.

That pilot should get a commendation!
Not one Oceanic 815/Hurley extrapolation? What is wrong with you people...
"I can fit into ONE SEAT."

As a fellow fatty, I sympathize.

But he's dragging this out further then need be - Smodcast and Twitter. Plus theorizing that its a conspiracy with either the pilot or stewardess? Oh and what a coincidence that this happened of all times right before Cop Out hits.
Jesus Christ he's been twittering non stop since 3am his time (unless he's east coast today)
