Massive Attack-Heligoland

Anyone pick this up yet? Bought it completely blind a couple of days ago, and damn if "I Love You Girl" has fast become probably my absolute favorite Massive song. Glad to hear Horace Andy back. He NAILS that song along with the unexpected horns in the song. It's a welcome departure from the dreary sounds of 100th Window(which I dug more than most MA fans).

So far, "I Love You Girl" has been owning me, but I'm beginning to branch out into the other songs. Tunde Adebimpe fits like a glove with the group on "Pray For Rain", and I hope they collaborate more often. The more tribal sound that the album is trying to achieve is doing wonders for the group.

I'm more excited by Daddy G returning. I haven't picked this up yet but I will, it's been seven long years since we got a Massive Attack album.

Yeah, he does vocals on "Splitting The Atom". It sounds like some outtake from David Bowie's Outside album. It's real strange and disjointed. Don't know if I'm digging that one; maybe one day it will hit me when I catch it on a shuffle at a random moment.

I think Martina Topley-Bird does some strong work on "Babel".

Ooops. I goofed and got "Splitting the Atom" confused with "Flat of the Blade". Daddy G did contribute to "Splitting the Atom", but I was thinking about the sound "Flat of the Blade". "Splitting the Atom" is a very cool MA throwback song.

I didn't know there was a new Massive Attack out. Now I can't wait to get home and I just got to work, bummer.

Is Psyche (Flash Treatment) on here? Thats was probably my favourite of the Splitting the Atom EP tracks.

So it's not bad, like the 100th Window? I'm not expecting another Mezzanine, but still, I hope for some quality.

Am I the only person who loves 100th Window? It's one of my favorite albums to walk/ drive around to on a snowy day.

I liked 100th Window quite a bit, but after listening to Heligoland I can understand why people didn't take to it; It's real dreary in comparison.

So after mind chewing Heligoland, the word I'd use is that it's more vibrant sounding, if that makes sense. The electronic bass throbs that we all know and love Massive Attack for are still there, but there's jubiliation in the sound that I'm personally digging.

It's just called "Psyche" on Heligoland, and it's a different mix. A lot more up tempo -and again - vibrant. Might take some getting use to if you listened to the cut on the Splitting the Atom* EP a lot of times.

*Which I didn't even know existed until just now. Thanks for the head's up, Ben. The track "Bulletproof Love" is titled "Flat of the Blade" on Heliogland, and it's a lot more interesting on the Atom ep. Still kinda sounds like a David Bowie Outside leftover, though. "Pray for Rain" and "Splitting the Atom" are the exact cuts on Heligoland, just to let you know.

I've heard this a couple of times now and I like it quite a bit. I find them a bit sluggish a lot of the time, but this one has a laid back warmth and energy to it, and the songs are really melodic.
