THOR Pre-Release Discussion - Page 6

Saw this in 3D today and I must admit that I am not entirely sold on 3D in movies, it still takes me out of the film too much to add to it.  That said I enjoyed Thor quite a bit, it isn't as good a film as Iron Man but is better than Iron Man 2 and The Hulk (Ed Norton version).  Hemsworth and Hiddleton were both really good and I look forward to seeing more of them on the Big Screen in the Avengers and any sequel to Thor that gets off the ground.  The only thing that surprised me was that Rene Russo was in it because I haven't a clue who she was playing.

Frigga or Freya, I assume.

IMDB says Frigga.

She's supposed to be Odin's wife/Thor's mother.

Surprised at the positive notices this is getting, as I found it very pedestrian.  Certainly not terrible, just kind of lifeless, despite admittedly good performances.

Cheers, I'm astonished that I didn't twig that it was her but then I think she is in a couple of scenes and I was having real problems focusing properly with the 3D.

I found the 3D to be uneven at times, more so with the battle scenes and anything that deals with motion blur.  The 3D for Captain America looks better but the issues are still there.

That's exactly what it was, the action was too fast in places and the 3D just added to the confusion for me, added to the darkness of the picture at the start especially in the night time/Jotunheim just bothered me a little.  I think that film makers are still getting to grips with 3D as a tool in the movies and I don't think I'm going to go out of my way to see any more 3D films this year unless it's by a film maker I really like.   I kind of wish I'd waited an hour to see the 2D version now.

At this point I am less concerned with quality (since most of the reviews have been positive) and more concerned that we might be getting a good film that people don't flock to (ala The Incredible Hulk).

This is a bright and colourful film and the glasses totally kill it. The 3D itself barely adds anything - I can't even think of a single moment that stuck out. I think I'm pretty much done with 3D until I hear of a flick that really needs to be seen in that format, even seeing animated films in 3D feels like a chore now.

The film itself is by far my favourite Marvel adaptation yet, surpassing even Iron Man.

The overseas Box Office seems to be doing fairly well. It's earned around 93 million so far.
