YOUR year of living OCD

Taking a page from my list of movies i watched last year and devin's great new column about writing down something for every film he watches, i've been compiling a list of films watched that i had never seen before. I'm on 40 so far.

Will update this list in batches of 20 or more throughout the year. My goal is to hit 250. My more realistic goal is 200.

We'll see how it goes.

Agree/disagree on my read on films? Tell me about it!

01 - The Visitor - Great Subject Matter. Jenkins owns this.
02 - All The King's Men - Fantastic Cast. Not a great film.
03 - Armored - Small heist film. Slow start, gets a little better.
04 - Taking Woodstock - Good, not well structured. Needed more Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
05 - The Insider - Long as hell, you can't look away for a second. Fantastic.
06 - Bad Biology - WTF. Puppet monster Cock on Steroids. Hate you Phil.
07 - Sexy Beast - Great little movie. Kingsley is amazing.
08 - The Invention of Lying - Great Script, mediocre execution. Distracting Cameos.
09 - Cache (2005) - Haneke explores guilt. I was bored.
10 - Up In The Air - The script fails the rest of the team. Short of great.
11 - Big Fan - Patton Oswalt delivers an amazing performance. Really sad movie.
12 - Bad Lieutenant (new) - Fantastic. So bizarre. God Bless Herzog
13 - Elizabeth : The Golden Age - Pretty to look at and great actors. Bad Script and Directing.
14 - The Fantastic Mr. Fox - Charming as hell. Loved it.
15 - Sherlock Holmes - Quite good, still room for improvement on the sequel. Fun.
16 - The Brothers Bloom - Quirky in all the good ways. Great leads.
17 - A Serious Man - Such a Coen film. Superbly shot.
18 - Invictus - Disappointing. As subtle as a jack hammer to the head.
19 - The Informant! - Great eclectic cast. Gets a little confusing and loses steam.
20 - Law Abiding Citizen - Really fun thriller. Well made, not a great ending.
21 - Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - Really fun and imaginative movie.
22 - Daybreakers - Fantastic world building. Great Concept. Cool gory kills!
23 - Hot Rod - Really retarded comedy. When it works, it works.
24 - Felon - Compelling and fascinating little prison movie. Great work all around.
25 - The Last Winter - Claustrophobic and isolated feeling, bleak as hell.
26 - Drillbit Taylor - A few chuckles here and there, but overall weak.
27 - Mr. Magorium Wonder Emporium - Some neat ideas, good direction. Cheap end result.
28 - City Of God - Wow. Such a powerful film on every single level. Sucks that it's real life.
29 - Craig Ferguson A wee Bit of a revolution - Not as funny as his hosting duties.
30 - Universal Soldier: Regeneration - Above average DTV film. Only worth for action scenes.
31 - Everybody's Fine - So is this movie. Just Fine. Nothing special.
32 - How to Lose Friends and Alienate People - Pegg is better than this. So is Bridges. Still fun.
33 - The Onion Movie - Only watched 30 minutes, way better in short bursts.
34 - How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days - Above average romantic comedy. Still silly.
35 - 2 Days In Paris - Great script and performances. Nice relationship portrayal.
36 - The Savages - Very strong performances by the leads. Sad and real story.
37 - Must Love Dogs - Cute, i love dogs. And Cusack
38 - Bridget Jones' Diary - Grand and Firth make it worth it.
39 - Bridget Jones Edge of Reason - Not as good as the first one, only saw half of it.
40 - Après vous - Funny french romantic comedy. Great leads. A little slow.

I have the lofty goal of 365-500 films this year, and at least 100 foriegn films. I think batches of 20 is a good idea. Here's mine:

01 - Ocean's Twelve - Still underrated all these years later, not as underrated as Ocean's Thirteen
02 - Sons of Provo - Suprisingly funny movie about a mormon boy band
03 - Who Framed Roger Rabbit - Whatever happend to Christopher Lloyd?
04 - Serenity - Not as good as the series, but it's a film that really works
05 - Daybreakers - Highly enjoyable. Dafoe was my favorite part, and the ending had bite (pun intended)
06 - Jesus Camp - Pretty frightening, but not as frightening as it was made out to be. Would love to see where these kids wind up in a decade/follow-up feature. Ted Haggard cameo lulz.
07 - Dominick Dunne: After the Party - Incredibly revealing, not always in good ways.
08 - The Last Boy Scout - This may have my favorite ending lines in action cinema.
09 - In The Loop - Not much else to be said that hasn't already been said about this one. Fuckity-bye.
10 - A Single Man - Gorgeous and moving, almost felt like a side story to the world of Mad Men.
11 - 44 Inch Chest - Not at all good, although Ian McShane is really trying. Should have kept it as a play.
12 - Edge of Darkness - I'm still looking for a way to use "I'm going to throw a box of tarantualas in your situation." The MASSIVE GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY WHERE NO ONE IS SAFE AND CAN POSSIBLY GET RADIATION POISONING was done better on that episode of Criminal Intent with the lead guy from Oz.
13 - House (Hausu) - I still don't know what the fuck I saw, but I loved it.
14 - I Was A Teenage Faust - Forgettable. Poor, poor Robert Townsend. You were the Meteor Man!
15 - Antichrist - Favorite film of 2009
16 - Shoot the Piano Player - I like the cylclical implications of it, but man, this is exactly like the script I've been working on for the last year.
17 - Red Riding 1974 - Julian Jarrold - No one will ever top John Huston in Chinatown, but Sean Bean comes pretty goddamn close here.
18 - Red Riding 1980 - James Marsh - 2010 - I like how this story has very little to do with the plot of the first one initially, but the end winds up being a gutpunch. 1983 doesn't work without this one.
19 - Red Riding 1983 - Anand Tucker - Probably the most flawed of the trilogy, but that's because you need the first two parts for it to work. Still, the ending is amazing, as is Basic Instinct II's David Morrisey.
20 - A Serious Man - Joel and Ethan Coen - I don't know whether my favorite bit is the rabbi quoting Grace Slick ("be a good boy") or the alternating looks between Larry and son as they realize what's on the horizon.
21 - The Young Victoria - Jean-Marc Vallée - It's good, with great costumes, but this belonged on HBO.
22 - Total Recall - Paul Veroheven - And the Lord said, "Get your ass to Mars." And I did, and it was good.
23 - The Blind Side - John Lee Hancock - Not nearly as White Guilty as Crash, but, like I said, tell me what Sandra Bullock is doing here that Connie Britton isn't doing better each week on Friday Night Lights
24 - From Paris With Love - Pierre Morel - Even a highly entertaining Travolta can't save this misogyny-fest.
25 - Demolition Man - Marco Brambilla - This would make a great double feature with Virtuosity. Just saying.
26 - Down With Love - Peyton Reed - Wow, I really enjoyed this a whole bunch. The charms sneak up on you. Also, David Hyde Pierce and Sarah Paulson get together. Meta irony!
27 - Up (in 3D) - Pete Docter - Liked it a lot. Did not love. Think my first experience with 3D lent a lot to that.
28 - October Country - 2010 - Like Jesus Camp, I want to see a follow up with Desi in a few years. She's a joy to watch.
29 - The Wolfman - Joe Johnson - I prefer Jurassic Park III, but Joe Johnson is highly underrated. He comes in, knows what a project needs, and delivers a solid film. If I had to pick my favorite "studio" picture so far this year, this would be it by a mile.
30 - Connie and Carla - Michael Lembeck - The girlfriend will be doing serious penance for making me sit through this.

Of those 30, you included films you already watched, right?
So your goal is 365-500 total films, even if you saw them or not?
Yeah, the goal is 365-500 total, however I'm not going to count if I see a movie more than once in a single format (for example, if I see In The Loop in the theater, I'd count that as a seperate entry and probably just write "see no. 9"). However, looking over that list, I think I've seen less than 10 of those movies before.
Since mid-December, in chronological order, I've seen:

adam resurrected - acid trip holocaust movie, terrible but fun, dirty experien.

bronson - not really that good or interesting! nice performance
bad lieutenant: port of call new orleans - saw twice! lots of fun
avatar - kind of good but it feels like an exercise to watch!

punishment park - one of the greatest mock docs of all time
the imaginarium of doctor parnassus - damn masterpiece!

up in the air - oh fuck, up in the air. an old mans movie by a 30yr old

jcvd - if van damme wasn't in this, it would've been straight to dvd!
flame & citron - europe blows up real good
high life - decent small time crook flick but forgettable
the book of eli - ridiculous mess, is it serious or not i dunno
cold souls - quintessential middlebrow NYC intellectual flick of the world as seen thru black, thick-rimmed glasses
the people vs. larry flynt - decent biopic could've been a magazine article
the stunt man - loved this! less you know the better...
christiane f. - boring junkies shoot up drugs, GREAT soundtrack
zooey and adam - intense drama about rape!
franklyn - what the fuck is this shit
a prophet - audiard has directed the crime of the age
harry brown - michael caine tries to be as unlikable as possible! sad really
the five obstructions - its fun to watch lars von trier fuck with people
i stand alone - the first movie that could be transferred to mp3
army of shadows - another melville great one
blow out - liked it, but i still don't get the depalma love
heavy traffic (5th? 6th? viewing) - one of my favorites
crank 2: high voltage - as good as the first
#46 - gamer - crank directors begin to grow as filmmakers
post #6 of 149
I think it's great that you guys are keeping tabs on the movies you've seen. It's something that I've thought about doing for a long time.

But I think it'd be more interesting if you picked some that you clearly spent some time thinking about and extrapolated on the movie more, or on the experience of watching them.

Simply listing a one line summation isn't exactly interesting and it makes it difficult to continue a conversation about the movie in question. If the idea is to model it after Devin's Blog, why not do the same thing? Or start new threads/search for old ones on the films you're talking about?

Don't mean to be a bitch, just throwing in my two cents.
I guess the first most important and almost only thing, that can be taken from that, is of watching a lot of fucking films.
Good idea, Tati. Some good suggestions there. Been meaning to watch State Of Play. And I would watch the JACQUES MESRINE double bill.

Serious question though: How do you find time to watch so many movies? No snark. I'm genuinely curious. I have an 8 month old baby son, which has severly reduced my movie watching, but even before then I didn't have time to watch everything I wanted to. Between seeing friends and playing sport / exercising I just couldn't do it.

Are you one of these people who olnly needs 5 hours sleep a night?
I'm keeping a running tally on my blog (linked in my sig).
I too have a website where I've been keeping a tally and even writing about movies that pique my thoughts. The site is right here.

And I keep an ever-updating spreadsheet which is linked at that site, or right here.

I'm currently at 73 total movies so far this year, 63 of which I'd never seen before.

I'm way behind my fellow bloggers, who are all above 80.

I'm going to do this, too, whether it's bumping threads, starting new ones, or writing about them elsewhere, like Facebook or my blog. I just didn't want to overload the count with space.

I can answer this for myself at least. I have toyed with doing something similar to Devin's OCD pieces. I have come out of two very crushing breakups in the past three years and am trying to learn how to be alone. I love movies and so have decided to try and watch 365 films this year that I have never seen before as an exercise in being alone.

Netflix is your friend in this endeavor. Not sleeping much is another friend. I have two children myself and although I am divorced and in the midst of a custody mix-up they love to watch films too so some of my films are kids movies. The dollar theatre in my town is awash with about five kids fare right now so that helps on the weekends.

I, unlike most of you I would wager(not a snarky comment just an observation), am in a unique position that I own my own business and have a three hour lunch most days. I have free time that makes it a bit easier to at least get halfway through a film in the midday and then finish it later that night.

I am trying to construct my own blog idea around utilizing my love of film to discover the joy of being alone and break my bad relationship cycles. I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to do that. That being said, here is my current list.

Films I saw in 2010, *=Theatrical

1.Six Degrees of Separation
2.Idlewild
3.Brazil
4.Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
5.Daredevil
6.Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs*
7.Antichrist*
8.Black Dynamite*
9.The Girlfriend Experience
10. The Princess Bride
11. Inside Deep Throat
12. The Baader Meinhof Complex
13. Step Brothers
14. Shakes the Clown
15. Rashomon
16. NASCAR: The IMAX Experience
17. Who the #$&% Is Jackson Pollock?
18. Planet of the Apes
19. Repo Man
20. Che: Part 1
21. Che: Part 2
22. Bedtime Stories
23. Big Fan
24. Race to Witch Mountain
25. Wall Street
26. Blade Runner: The Final Cut
27. Seven Samurai
28. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
29. Lady Vengeance
30. Zach Galifianakis: Live
31. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel*
32.John Pinette: I’m Starvin’
33. It Might Get Loud
34. Where Eagles Dare
35. Two Girls and a Guy
36. Ikiru
37. The Goonies
38. Secretary
39. Fletch Lives
40. The Seventh Seal
41.The Mummy Returns
42.Ong Bak 2: The Beginning
43. Bunny Lake is Missing

That is my list, some are docs and a few are stand-ups that I will not count in my overall number at the end of the year. I'm falling behind because truthfully after five months I have sorta met someone and so have become occupied at the times when I was watching movies all throughout January. There goes being alone.

For my blog, I'm only counting films that I sat down and watched from beginning to end with no distractions. If I counted every film I've caught the first or last half of, or that I had on in the background while I did something else, the number of films would easily double.
Wow, 43 movies already. Impressive.

Long lunch breaks do help. I have an Archos media player, so I can record stuff of my DVR over night and have 2 or 3 films on it the next day. Great for commuting.

Nah, i sleep fine. I just get off work at 6 and go to bed at 1am. That's a lot of free time.
I've seen a lot more than this, but these are the films I can remember seeing over the past month or so.

1. People vs. Larry Flynt - What the fuck happened to Courtney Love? She's great
2. A Serious Man - One of the Coens' most obscure and therefore my favourite
3. Where the Wild Things Are - Loved it.
4. Lake Of Fire - The only time a documentary's come close to actually changing my mind about a subject. Amazing.
5. Oldboy - Boy, it never gets old.
6. Watchmen - Boy, this got old REALLY fast
7. Inside - Best horror of the aughts
8. I Love You Man - Paul Rudd needs more starring roles.
9. Taken - Straightforward. Neeson kills.
10. Zombieland - Could've used more zombie mayhem. Still, lots of fun.
11. The Fall - Changed my mind about Tarsem. Also, cute kid.
12. Avatar - Dances With Smurfs
13. Summer School - Edible eyeball
14. Cocaine Cowboys - Not half bad. Shocking production values though.
15. Sherlock Holmes - A bit too disposable, but pretty fun. Downey and Law are a great team.
16. Drillbit Taylor - Surprisingly funny. I'll watch anything where an adult hits a child. ANYTHING.
17. Quarantine - Havent seen REC, but this wasn't half bad. Dexter's sister is a wimp.
18. How To Lose Friends - Simon Pegg deserves better. Megan Fox deserves worse.
19. A Knight's Tale - Watching with my nephew gave me new appreciation. REally well put together.
20. The Mist - Nightmare inducing. And that ending...
21. The Descent - Fucking awesome. best Marshall yet.
22. Punisher: War Zone - Great tone. Great action. Great villain. Not-so-great choice of Punisher.
23. Ghost Town - A lot better than I thought it would be. Commentary with Gervais is fantastic.
24. Jimmy Carr: Jimmy - Hilarious. Possibly the best improv comedian I've ever seen.
25. Running Scared - Walker is so good in this. I can't believe Kramer followed RS up with Crossing Over. If ever there was reason to invent a time machine, this is it.
26. Step Brothers - Some hilarious moments in an otherwise average film.

That list doesn't include films I had seen before. I've shared Moon with three people, finally got a friend to watch The Blues Brothers and watched some 80's staples with my boys. If that were the case I'm sure I'm way over 100 for the year.

In the Mood for Love - Beautiful almost romance. You couldn't find more attractive leads if you tried.
A Mighty Wind - Hilarious, though not quire as compelling as Best in Show. Eugene Levy and Jane Lynch are standouts.
Ugetsu - Moving, tragic ghost story that constantly surprises and enthralls.
Breathless - Really, really affected, and stylized. Loved it. Seberg was superhot.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby - Stupid, but amusing. Gary Cole wins at life.
A Town Called Panic - SEE THIS MOVIE NOW. DEVIN IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT IT. Pure anarchic joy.
The Searchers - Is this the great American classic it's said to be. Yes. Yes. A hundred times yes.
Whip It! - Unfairly dismissed. Ellen Page again proves she's one of this generation's most talented young actresses. With a little more work, Drew Barrymore could evolve into a good director
Wendy and Lucy - *cries* Michelle Williams should not only have been nominated, but won Best Actress at the Oscars. A disturbing and heartbreaking statement on how utterly fucked homeless people are, even in America.
The Wrestler - Rourke is good, film is blah.
Barry Lyndon - Kubrick is the man. A monumental achievement.
Carrie - aaaaah. AHHHHH. Ahhhhghhhghhh!
Lilo & Stitch - I love this movie without shame. "ohana means family." Stitch means cute. Also one of the most pro-women films Disney has produced.
A Single Man - Drenched in glorious gay-o-vision! This usually works, sometimes doesn't. Anchored by powerful Firth performance.

20 more!

41 - The Box - Interesting concept and ride, it adds up to nothing good. WTF Kelly. Grow up.
42 - Chicago 10 - Really interesting and powerful documentary.
43 - 44 Inch Chest - Wasted opportunity. Such a cast, so bland.
44 - Le Coupuret - Great concept, a little slow and lacking emotional pull.
45 - Thelma & Louise - Really interesting film. Just a fantastic ending.
46 - A Fei zheng chuan (1990) - Exploring lust and relationships. I hate asian cinema.
47 - Carnal Knowledge (1971) - Fantastic dissection of men looking for love and sex.
48 - Swingers - Great script and a time capsule.
49 - Do The Right Thing - Flat out amazing. Powerful display of reality.
50 - Ninja Assassin - Boring, ruined by extreme CGI use. Too bad, Rain's good.
51 - 9 - Looks pretty, terrible script. Kinda boring.
52 - The Men Who Stare At Goats - Wasted opportunity. Great premise and cast.
53 - Midnight Run (1988) - Pitch perfect script and performances.
54 - Blindness - Terrific concept. Lacks a little depth and scope.
55 - Lions for Lambs - Not as bad as i thought. The ending is terrible though.
56 - Searching for Bobby Fischer - Really great. Fantastic story, cast and direction.
57 - X-Files 2 - Boring and really small in scope. Feels like fan wankery.
58 - The Princess And The Frog - Cute and all, but felt slow and racist.
59 - The Holiday - Good leads and story. Still hate Nancy Meyers.
60 - The Last Days Of Disco - Couldn't really relate to the culture or period. But well made.
Haha, I almost bumped this today as well. I'm at 53 now, I'll post the next twenty later.

And it's good to see that I'm not the only one who didn't completely hate The Holiday.

And yes, 20 more!
80 in 3 months!

61 - Modigliani - Andy Garcia plays Amadeo Modigliani. A little over the top.
62 - Alice in Wonderland - Bastardization of the characters. Great CGI. Helena B Carter wins.
63 - Old Boy - there are no words. Truly mesmerizing.
64 - Brothers - Great acting, specially McGuire in the third act. Kinda predictable.
65 - Citizen Kane - Yeah, i know. Masterfully shot. Ahead of it's time. Script not on par.
66 - Frankenstein (1931) - Iconic roles and imagery. Short but sweet.
67 - Bride of Frankenstein (1935) - Better in every single way. Amazing for the time.
68 - Young Frankenstein - Underwhelming, Morty Feldman steals the film.
69 - Harry Brown - Good, Caine's great. It's a little slow at the beginning.
70 - Taking of Pelham 123 (remake) - Average at best. Travolta is an embarrassment.
71 - They Live - Cool ideas and concept. A little lacking in execution and lead.
72 - Annie Hall - Woody Allen's masterpiece. Brilliant deconstruction of relationships.
73 - The Maltese Falcon - Bogart's a Man's man. Gets a little confusing at the end.
74 - Carandiru - Powerful Brazilian film about life in prison. A little too long and sloppy.
75 - Survival Of The Dead - Terrible. Central concept is good. Everything else is bad.
76 - Knowing - Good concept, terrible Cage.
77 - The Lives of Others - Great film. Horrible period of history. Memories are good.
78 - Where The Wild Things Are - Great adaptation of the classic book. Moving.
79 - Shutter Island - A little obvious but great atmosphere.
80 - An Education - Brilliant storytelling. Perfect Cast. Hated some characters.

I'm at 70 for the year so far, kind of disappointing.

1. Let me Hold Your Hand - Still made me laugh. Love the crazy energy of early Zemeckis movies.
2. OSS 177 - Hated most of recent French mainstream comedies, but this one is watchable considering it's another Bond spoof.
3. The Hired Hand - Pretty good and unusual western. W.Oates is great, as usual.
4. Sugar - Not a bad sports movie.
5. They Live by Night - Liked it a lot more than Altman's Thieves Like Us and made me crave for some more N.Ray goodness.
6. Big Fan - P.Oswalt really surprised me with his performance.
7. Child's Play - Was never a fan, but it's watchable and kind of fun.
8. Bright Star - Beautifully shot, but didn't really impress me otherwise.
9. Young Mr. Lincoln - Probably one of my favorite John Ford films. Made me understand him better.
10. Troy: Director's Cut - Better than theatrical, but still riddled with huge issues.
11. Daybreakers - First time I went to cinema this year. Not a bad beginning.
12. Joe - Got this one based on Trailers From Hell recommendation. Watch it for Peter Boyle.
13. Red Heat - Do you know Miranda? It's OK, but Walter Hill can do a lot better.
14. Rudolph's Heritage - Latvian film. Probably one of the worst films I have ever seen.
15. The Philadelphia Story - Not my favorite screwball comedy, but still it's great.
16. Fish Tank - A very good film until the last act that doesn't work. Was slightly annoyed by all the 'in your face' symbolism.
17. Escape from NY - I liked it before, but I never truly understood the love it gets. I still don't, but finally I started to appreciate more.
18. The Killing - Ashamed to admit that it took me so long to watch it. Near flawless heist film.
19. Ninotchka - It was fun watching it for two reasons: A) I grew up in USSR B) It's still hilarious.
20. A Serious Man - Perfect.
21. No Way to Treat a Lady - Was surprised to see that it's basically a very dark comedy. It's good if not a bit clumsy in some scenes.
22. Abbott & Costello Meet Frankstein - My First A&C film. Wish I discovered them when I was a kid. Still, a lot of fun.
23. Trucker - Not a bad film, but I have totally forgotten about it by now.
24. Warlock - Any explanations why this western is not better known?
25. 9 - Boring and shallow.
26. Up in the Air - I liked previous Reitman films more.
27. Whip it - Somebody should teach Barrymore a thing or two about directing and, especially, editing.
28. Friends of Eddie Coyle - I was really surprised about it. Sad, subtle, slow yet very engaging film.
29. The Petrified Forest - Not bad, but I have a feeling it's remembered only because it made a star out of Bogart.
30. Revolver - Got to give props to Phil for recommending it. It's way better than I expected it.

I've seen around 80 films this year, but I will stop for now. I hope you don't mind if I continue here.

Made it to my goal of 100 before May
Can't see myself really keeping this pace. So i'll say that my new goal is 200/250 by years end.

81 - Scanners - Amazing practical effects and solid concept. Terrible lead and pacing.
82 - The African Queen - Just great. Classic is the only word that comes to mind.
83 - Crazy Heart - The cast shines in this simple yet effective story.
84 - Eyes Wide Shut - Brilliantly Shot, a little bloated and disappointing third act.
85 - To Kill a Mocking Bird - Great performance by Peck aside, kinda slow.
86 - Fast Food Nation - Too many ideas and striking imagery. Doesn't really click.
87 - Defendor - Great cast and good story. Lacked a little punch script wise.
88 - The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus - A brilliantly designed incoherent mess.
89 - The Third Man (1949) - Orson Welles carries this great thriller.
90 - The Day The Earth Stood Still (Original) - A Sci Fi Classic. Great lead performance.
91 - The Slammin Salmon - Mediocre. And i like Broken Lizard films. Good cameos though.
92 - Persepolis - Fantastic animated movie. Using simple imagery for powerful messages.
93 - The Lovely Bones - Terribly slow mess of a story. Tucci comes out a winner though.
94 - Legion - Average and cliche. Some nice visuals. Bettany and Durand are good.
95 - Swing Vote - Nice concept, completely mediocre. Waste of talent.
96 - Case 39 - Terrible generic horror. Just really bad.
97 - North By Northwest - A very sharp script and Hitchcock on top of his game. Great.
98 - Julie and Julia - Not very great. Made me hungry though.
99 - Meet Dave - Eddie Murphy continues to destroy his legacy.
100 - Catch And Release - Average and predictable. Good cast and songs.

As of May 1st.

92.Frankenstein Created Woman - So so entry in the Hammer series
93.Long Kiss Goodnight - Probably Renny Harlin's best movie
94.The Crooper - Shitty. Just rented it for the Joe Bob Briggs commentary
95.Conformist - Interesting film with fantastic cinematography
96.House on Sorority Row - Decent 80's slasher movie
97.Ginger Snaps - Best werewolf movie of the past decade
98.Time Bandits - Entertaining but flawed Gilliam
99.Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai - Dated but funny
100.Midnight Express - I'm a sucker for prison movies
101.The Losers - Pretty good action film that should have been more violent
102.Dirty Dozen - Only behind Great Escape as best men on a mission movie
103.Hollywood Strangler Meets the Skid Row Slasher - Awful
104.Innocents - Strong adaptation of James' book. Fucked up on a subversive level
105.Last Wave - Didn't care for it
106.Sherlock Holmes - Mediocre
107.The Stuff - Good 80s cheese
108.Kick Ass - Awesome
109.Warlock Moon - Shit. Rented for Briggs commentary
110.Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed - Interesting but inferior sequel
111.Drag Me To Hell - One of the classic horror movies of the past decade

31. Planet of the Apes (1968) - Out of all the POTA films, this is still my favorite.
32. Beneath the Planet of the Apes - Silly, but a lot of fun, especially the ending.
33. Escape From Planet of the Apes - Not a bad change of pace and tone.
34. Conquest of Planet of the Apes - Saw this one for the first time. Now I understand why some many people seem to dig this one the most.
35. Battle for Planet of the Apes - Not sure if would have been any better with a bigger budget, but it sure hurts this film. Definitely, least favorite and quite unnecessary.
36. Informant! - Like it a lot and don't really have any major complaints. The score and Damon's performance are two main standouts.
37. Fantastic Mr. Fox - That scene with the wolf is the best thing W.Anderson ever directed. One of the best films of 2009.
38. The Room - Invited friends over to watch this. I think none of us will ever be the same again.
39. The Sea Hawk - Very impressive and epic adventure film. Have to rewatch Captain Blood, but for now I think I prefer this one.
40. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - Honestly thought this one was pretty great and in terms of the story, attitude, humor and characters this one worked better than Pixar's lesser films.
41. The Wolf Man (1941) - Liked it better than the remake. Larry Talbot is a pretty creepy dude even before all the Wolf Man stuff.
42. The Wolfman - It's not bad, but all the script faults will really stick out the next time I will decide to watch it.
43. Only Angels Have Wings - So many great little moments in this film, but as a whole it leave quite an impression, too.
44. Pontypool - Pretty good little, economic horror film. Not sure I totally understood everything they wanted to say with it, but nevertheless I enjoyed it.
45. Imaginerium of Dr. Parnassus - Sad to admit it, but it simply didn't work for me even though I like some of it. Still, compared to Tideland, this one's at least watchable and TG seems only slightly less bitter.
46. The Woman in the Window - Very entertaining thriller from Fritz Lang. Ending's a bit cheap though.
47. Crazy Heart - Was I the only one annoyed by an elevating crane shot every two minutes? Otherwise, a very nice film with a heart.
48. Mother - Another great film from Joon-ho Bong.
49. Le Donk and Scor-Say-Zee - If you can still tolerate mockumentary films then this one's watchable for some silly humor and Paddy Considine improv skills.
50. From Paris With Love - Extremely boring.

101 - Rec - Very well staged and shot. Tense and creepy as hell.
102 - Iron Man 2 - Flawed as hell, but a very enjoyable sequel. They need better Scripts.
103 - Edge Of Darkness - A bad script made into a mess of a film. Mel's good though.
104 - Coffy (1973) - My first Blacksplotation film! And an awesome one it is!
105 - Dirty Harry - Not as great as i hoped. Terrible villain and bad humor attempts.
106 - Dolemite (1975) - My second blacksplotation film. Not as good as the first one.
107 - A Single Man - Very good little movie. Firth was tremendous.
108 - A Fistful of Dollars (1964) - Very Good, Clint's great and Script's a little less great.
109 - Psycho - Hitchcock continues to amaze me. Perkins is impossibly creepy.
110 - Precious - I hate the world and that this is real. Amazing acting.
111 - Clash Of The Titans (2010) - Mediocre fun. Terrible script, decent action.
112 - Gloria (1980) - Very uneven. Great story and Rowlands is great. Terrible Kid.
113 - Robin Hood (2010) - Mediocre. Wrong story to tell and kinda boring.
114 - Van Wilder - Terrible. Reynolds is much better than this shit.
115 - Carancho - Muy buena, interesantisimo tema a tratar. Muy bien filmada.
116 - The Ghost Writer - An interesting story told by great actors at it's own pace.
117 - Rear Window - Amazing concept and good script, pace is way too slow.
118 - Serpico - Really good, great acting and setting. I miss Al.
119 - The Book of Eli - Good idea, starts out great but then it becomes stupid.
120 - Untraceable - A mix of Saw and a more bad movies. Bad.

Kept up with the pace, i'm gonna hit 125 at the end of may. I might make it to 300 end of the year.
Damn. I tried making a list. I gotta be forgetting some stuff, but I'm still only at 34 for the year. And half were rewatches. I think I watched more new films than that during a three week break from work in December.

I'm at 136. New goal is 300 by years end and include all of the films i haven't seen from the imdb 250.

That's amazing. According to my records, I've apparently been watching a lot of tv box sets and serials instead of movies.

Yeah, that gets in the way too. I watch way too many shows. But i'm gonna make good use of the summer and squeeze in 2 movies a day whenever i can instead of one.

Yeah, I'd love to join in on this thread too. But I'm late to the party and I'm not sure what I've already seen between January and now. But this is a fun thread and an interesting idea.

Erix, I used my post history here, my Netflix History, and my amazon order history (as well as a 2010 theatrical release schedule) to figure out what I've seen so far this year.

Up to 149 so far. Netflix instant is a hell of a drug.

20 more, I'm speeding up.

121 - Teeth - Goes for shock value and cheap laughs, its boring.
122 - 88 Minutes - Pacino at his lowest.
123 - Afghan Star - A really interesting documentary about a clash of cultures.
124 - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - Simply a masterpiece. Perfect sum of its parts.
125 - Street Fighter : Legend of Chun Li - Incredibly entertaining due to Chris Klein.
126 - Valhalla Rising - Weird. Has some amazing cinematography, but REALLY slow.
127 - For A Few Dollars More - Leone improves over the original. Peaks with GB&U.
128 - The Road - Aggressively grim, sacrificing story for world-building. Great looking.
129 - Where Eagles Dare (1968) - Very good, a little long and too many twists though.
130 - One Upon A Time In The West - Magnificent. Epic. I am now a true fan of Leone.
131 - Mystery Team - Solid debut of Derrick Comedy. Glover stands out. Matt Walsh kills.
132 - From Paris With Love - Terribly over generic action. Travolta needs a third boost.
133 - Raw Deal - Typical Schwarzenegger action fest from the 80's. Forgettable but fun.
134 - Django (1966) - A different spaghetti western. Less epic, more action oriented.
135 - Magnum Force (1973) - More action oriented and tighter than the original.
136 - Caddyshack (1980) - A couple of great performances and some good gags.
137 - High Plains Drifter (1973) - Clint directs his first western. Vengeance unleashed.
138 - Kaoma (1976) - Franco Nero keeps being bad ass. As entertaining as a western gets.
139 - 12 Angry Men (1957) - A script and acting masterpiece. The tv remake is equally good.
140 - Paths Of Glory (1957) - A great display of the politics involved in war and orders.
Wow Tati you're really going for it. Some classics on there.

Recently, I’ve seen the following:

FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE: Classic Clint, agreed that it’s better than A FISTFUL.
THE SPECIALS: A CHUD favourite. Unpretentious fun.
HARSH TIMES: Early Walter Hill. Bronson is tough as nails and Coburn is a good shady sidekick.
OSCAR: Inspired by Nick’s entry in the CHUD mediocre list. Routine but harmless fun. A few good jokes and Sly is pretty funny and gives it his all.
DEAD SNOW: Entertaining but could have been better. Most horrific moment had no Zombies, rather an obese blob getting laid by a hottie while taking a shit.
FAST & FURIOUS: Quite entertaining. I'm actually not dreading the next one.
13 TZAMETI: Like Devin said, tedious opening half hour followed by insane butt-clenching tension.
CAPTAIN RON: What the hell was I thinking. I like Kurt Russell but Jesus Christ.

I’m halfway through ROMEO IS BLEEDING which is great so far. Good, sleazy thriller.

20 more in 8 days. I'm kinda awesome.

141 - La Mala Educacion - Brilliant structuring and hard topics to tackle. Hitchcockian style.
142 - The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) - Another Clint western. Another great film.
143 - Double Indemnity (1944) - Billy Wilder crafts a very clever murder story. Great Script.
144 - In The Name Of The Father (1993) - Powerful, moving, terrifying.
145 - Singin' In The Rain (1952) - Really fantastic. They sure don't make them like these now.
146 - Gattaca (1997) - Great sci fi. Smart, beautifully shot, has something to say.
147 - A Hard's Day Night (1964) - The Beatles foray into movies. Lovely
148 - Amelie (2001) - Beautifully shot, a celebration of good will and love. Killed me.
149 - She's Out Of My League - Average. Baruchel can't carry a film. Girl's gorgeous.
150 - The Wolfman - Director's Cut(2010) - Good, but not great. Some uneven parts.
151 - A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints - Great cast. Coming of age movie. Good enough.
152 - When In Rome - Really really bad. Terrible and derivative. Worst common denominator.
153 - Blood Simple (1984) - The Coens burst into film. The media would never be the same.
154 - The Treasure of Sierra Madre (1948) - What greed does to men. Fantastic acting .
155 - The Magnificent Seven (1960) - Pretty fantastic. A who's who of bad ass actors.
156 - Vertigo (1958) - A beloved Hitchcock classic that didn't quite work for me. Too slow.
157 - Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia (1974) - Weird, classic, great. Oates is great.
158 - Kick-Ass - Smart, fun, irreverent. Simply great.
159 - Straw Dogs (1971) - A strange and harsh film and a great performance from Hoffman.
160 - Duck, You Sucker! (1971) - Leone's last western. Epic, weird, fun. His fourth best.

This last batch was very... educational.
I'm glad you liked Amelie. People get cynical fast.

Are you giving yourself enough time to digest these? That's a lot of goddamn movies in a week.

Not too much, honestly.
But i do think about them every day at work.
Ok. A couple of these might actually be from December of last year and I'm sure there will be some omissions. But, basically, these are the noteworthy films I've seen so far this year - in alphabetical order. (Some are revisits and it will be obvious which ones)

1. 100 Feet Famke Janssen gets roughed up by the ghost of her dead husband. Not as fun as it sounds.
2. (500) Days Of Summer Good use of Hall & Oates on the soundtrack. I love Zooey Deschannel. Don't remember much else.
3. The Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans Generally good. Solid Cage performance. But the movie still feels kind of aimless. And Kilmer is underused.
4. Beyond A Reasonable Doubt Duller-than-Christmas remake by Peter Hyams of a movie no one ever gave a shit about. Michael Douglas's worst performance.
5. Bonnie & Clyde Still one of the greats. Upon revisiting, realize that the Gene Wilder sequence might be the best part of the film.
6. The Book Of Eli Read my blog.
7. The Box Dear Richard Kelly: We don't want to know what happens to Shatner after he kills the monster on the plane. And we don't give a shit what happens to Burgess Meredith after he breaks his glasses. Fuck you very much.
8. The Bridges Of Madison County Never saw this until now. Cried my guts out. One of Clint's best performances and no one ever talks about it. Just a fantastic movie.
9. Brooklyn's Finest Antoine Fuqua would like to think he's Sydney Lumet. He isn't. Watchable but completely pointless. Some rich performances save it.
10. Case 39 Watch Orphan instead. This is one of the dumbest horror movies I've ever seen. And someone please ask Renee Zelwegger to take that lemon wedge out of her mouth.
11. Chloe Spare engaging drama. The three leads are great. And Julianne Moore is still very sexy.
12. Command Performance Disappointing slice of Lundgren given the anticipation. Die Hard in a rock concert could have been better than this.
13. Edge Of Darkness Kind of boring. Until the Taxi Driver climax. But it's refreshing to see Mel look old and short.
14. Escríbeme Postales A Copacabana Silly, naive Bolivian-German co-production. A feature-length telenovela with cheesy acting and pathetic attempts at magic realism.
15. Extraordinary Measures I ALREADY WORK AROUND THE CLOCK! Good. Work a little harder.
16. GoodFellas Every time I see this it's like watching it for the first time. What an amazing film.
17. The Goonies Showed this to my 5th graders. They ate it up. It still works its magic.
18. Halloween II Dear Rob Zombie, I appreciate your wanting to make Michael Myers a real guy and Dr. Loomis a douchebag. But I still want you to shove your reinvention up your ass.
19. Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth In which they try to turn Pinhead into Freddy. It doesn't work.
20. Hellraiser IV: Bloodline Anthony Hickox made a stupid epic horror movie. Then the Weinsteins cut it up and transformed it into something merely stupid.
21. How To Lose Friends And Alienate People Yeah, Simon Pegg tries. But I can't get behind a movie so lacking in any sympathetic characters.
22. The Hurt Locker Dynamite. My only complaint is that it doesn't really have a solid narrative drive. Plays like a series of vignettes. But I guess that's the point.
23. The Invention Of Lying Loved this. Gervais shows his acting chops and the movie is funny and often moving. Spare execution, but the movie still works. Jennifer Garner is a delight.
24. Iron Man Still a fun movie.
25. Iron Man 2 Fun enough the first time, gets worse and worse in retrospect.
26. The Keeper Disappointing Seagal, given he seemed to be on the right track after Driven To Kill.
27. Law Abiding Citizen Death Wish meets The Shawshank Redemption. Fine, I guess. But Jamie Foxx is very unlikable and that hurts the movie.
28. The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring Had never seen the extended cut before. The added padding doesn't hurt the pace. Movie is still richly entertaining.
29. The Lovely Bones Disappointing, yes. But not the awful movie people say it is. Enough good elements for me to not hate it. But stick with the book.
30. Moon Sam Rockwell is a genius. A fantastic, sobering thriller.
31. A Nightmare On Elm Street Jackie Earle Haley is great. Movie is not. A wasted opportunity.
32. Ninja Assassin Entertaining throwback to 80s Cannon pictures but not entirely successful. Rain delivers the goods but Naomie Harris doesn't. Nice to see Sho Kosugi again.
33. No Moriré Sola Ugly Argentinean rape and revenge thriller that tries way too hard. 70 minutes but feels twice as long.
34. Observe And Report Seth Rogen is good and the movie has great energy. But they took a risk in making his character such an asshole. It's funny, sure, but hard to empathize.
35. Old Dogs Jesus God!
36. On Deadly Ground FUCK THESE ANIMALS STINK!
37. Over The Top Hadn't seen this since my childhood. What an odd, naive movie. The kid comes off as too much of a little wanker for you to give a shit. Cheesy fun.
38. Pandorum Feels like an adaptation of a second-tier Resident Evil knock-off. Despite the efforts of Foster and Quaid, the movie is still pretty boring. FROM THE DIRECTOR OF CASE 39!
39. The Patriot Seagal's version of Outbreak. Devoid of any real action and pretty stupid. But I appreciate how Dean Semler tries to give this silly DTV the look of quality with its sweeping vistas.
40. Paranormal Activity Nah. I'm not buying this. A couple of douchebags jumping at shadows in their house. Fuck them.
41. A Perfect Getaway Entertaining potboiler with a fun energy and enthusiasm from the leads.
42. Prince Of Persia Christ what a dull, pedantic movie.
43. Repo - The Genetic Opera This would be really good if the music were about 20 times more memorable.
44. Robin Hood It's better than Prince Of Persia.
45. Sherlock Holmes Comes off like a fun graphic novel. Downey and Law have great chemistry.
46. Shutter Devoid of scares with two leads who have no charisma or chemistry. Joshua Jackson is pretty good on Fringe. He stinks here.
47. Shutter Island Great Hitchcock riff by Scorsese. Terrific atmosphere. Cool retro performances. Who cares that its obvious?
48. The Stepfather Dylan Walsh is no Terry O'Quinn. This movie blows.
49. Sunshine Very engaging thriller. Until an awful, awful third act pretty much torpedoes it to hell.
50. True Romance Never get tired of this film.
51. Under Siege 2 I showed this to my friend and he actually said it was superior to the first one. He's wrong. But the movie is still fun.
52. Universal Soldier: Regeneration Surprisingly great. This could have played in theaters. It was a better franchise reboot than Terminator Salvation for a fraction of the budget.
53. Unthinkable Powerful thriller with a central concept that will get you talking, even with histrionics that almost sink it towards the end. Both Michael Sheen and Samuel L. Jackson are terrific.
54. The Wolf Man No. This could have been so good. Love what they were trying to do. But they lost their way. It just doesn't work.
55. World's Greatest Dad Fantastic. Manages to be consistently hilarious and truthful even with such a dark tragedy at its core. Robin Williams needs to make more movies like this.
56. You Don't Know Jack Great Pacino performance. Dull Barry Levinson execution.
57. Zombieland Lots of fun. Not quite Shaun Of The Dead, but delightful just the same.

Movies watched in 2010

1.Violent City - Great wordless beginning and ending. Bronson's a pleasure.
2.Outland - Re-watch. this needs Blu-ray treatment. "High Noon in space", in case you haven't heard.
3.The Shout – Bizarre but compelling horror movie about impotence and cuckolding
4.Death Wish - Re-watch. As close to a thoughtful, mature film as you're going to find in the franchise. Kersey pukes after killing a mugger!
5.Death Wish II - Re-watch. Uh, not a thoughtful, mature film.
6.Shutter Island - Fuck the twist, Scorsese pulls a Todd Haynes. Good viewin'.
7.Suspiria - Re-watch. Sat across from Dario Argento as this played. He left halfway through.
8.Moon - Re-watch. Still my favorite of 2009.
9.Scarecrow (1973) - Re-watch. curiously unloved 70s piece with Gene Hackman and Al Pacino, smack-dab in the middle of both actors' golden ages.
10.Road Games - Adorably mild Australian thriller. How many movies did Stacy Keach star in?
11.Inglourious Basterds - Re-watch. A gem.
12.The Brood - Re-watch. Cronenberg's first grown-up masterwork.
13.Elvis (miniseries) - Re-watch. Carpenter and Russell's first collaboration. Still has its moments.
14.Phantom of the Paradise - Re-watch; hell, a staple. Where's my blu-ray?
15.Halloween - Re-watch. Masterful
16.Halloween II - Re-watch. Less so
17.Halloween III - Re-watch. Good idea
18.Halloween 4 - Re-watch. Awful
19.Halloween 5 - Awfuler
20.Halloween Resurrection - Re-watch. Why did this happen
21.Halloween II (2008) - I just don't know.
22.Green Lantern: First Flight - Enjoyable!
23.Wizard of Oz - Re-watch. Amazing blu-ray
24.Hot Tub Time Machine - Knows what it is, funny, not classic
25.Night of the Creeps - Re-watch. This should be more loved
26.The Crazies (2010) – strong start but repetitive and ultimately forgettable
27.Hausu - unforgettable
28.The Invention Of Lying - There's one AMAZINGLY subversive scene.
29.Dirty Little Billy - a letdown
30.Fade To Black - the first movie about a movie geek?
31.Kick-Ass - fading from memory
32.Alien Nation - Re-watch. An underloved genre staple
33.Black Gestapo - as fucked as expected
34.The Backup Plan - Played before Elm Street at a drive-in. It was terrible.
35.Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) - Missed opportunity
36.Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - Re-watch. Nails the dream thing
37.Let The Right One In- a special kind of flick
38.MacGruber - subversive; bomb.
39.Survival Of The Dead - gave it a pass, in no hurry to revisit. I liked the effort.
40.Revolver - Re-watch. A favorite.
41.Nightmares in Red White and Blue - slightly perfunctory, but a good starting point for an American horror neophyte. Lots of films covered.
42.Invasion Of The Body Snatchers - Re-watch. A model of efficiency
43.El Aura - great mournful character piece/heist flick
44.The Thing From Another World - Re-watch. Holds the hell up
45.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - pretty good for 45 minutes!
46.Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths - Really pretty entertaining!
47.The House Of The Devil - Bullshit.
48.Blade Runner - Re-watch. Love going into that world.
49.Observe and Report - Re-watch. This will be a classic.
50.Zombieland - Re-watch. still a crowd pleaser.
51.Street Law - Insane Italian action.
52.The Thing - Re-watch. Still works!
53.Kingdom of the Spiders - fun nonsense
54.Death Wish 3 - Re-watch. Michael Winner becomes Enzo Castellari
55.Breakheart Pass - Great stunts but not memorable otherwise
56.Death Wish 4 - Kersey becomes some kind of badass for hire. More boring than it should be.
57.Splice - Horror film of the year. Something special.
58.Navajo Joe - Lesser Corbucci still beats the best of many
59.Iron Man 2 - Got tired of superhero movies halfway through this
60.Crime And Punishment In Suburbia - fucking horrible
61.1990: The Bronx Warriors - Re-watch. Castellari does dystopia. Pretty stupid, but stylish.
62.Angels In Disguise - Pretty sure Mean Streets is like a Nolan-ized version of The Bowery Boys. Like Abbott & Costello with pistol whippings.
63.Flash Gordon: The Greatest Adventure of All – “lost” animated film from 1979. I love rotoscoping.
64.Daybreakers – Second favorite film set in 2019.
65. Telefon - Don Siegel and Charles Bronson. Compelling story, but Bronson doesn't DO a whole lot.
66. A Clockwork Orange - first Re-watch in 17 years. It's politically and sexually juvenile, but what a beautiful looking and sounding film. Truly a musical!
67. Flash Gordon - Re-watch. The colors, man. The COLORS. Great cast, and Sam Jones.
68.Five Easy Pieces - Re-watch. The end of the Sixties, the beginning of nihilism. A sympathetic portrait of a man shedding his humanity.
69.Dog Day Afternoon - Re-watch. So deceptively simple. For some reason I was near tears for most of the running time.
70. The Monster Squad - First re-watch since the 80s! If I were five years younger, this would be my Goonies.
71.Miami Vice - Sizzle > Steak
72.Cyrus - Nowhere near as broad as depicted in the trailers. There's a bumpy third act shift but it's a sweet little story.
73.St. Ives - Bronson is all breezy fun one last time before Cannon turns him into the 80s angel of death.
74.Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein – Re-watch. One franchise’s best meets several franchises' worst.
75.Scarface (1932) – X marks the spot! Surprised at how much of a remake the remake was.
76.Black Dynamite – probably made Tarantino jealous.
77.Amer – Giallo homage that missed the pure joy of film the real ones had.
78.Confessions of a Superhero – compelling but I felt like I was laughing at real pain and real issues a little too much.
79.Inception – Nolan's metaphor for the creative impulse and collaboration, smuggled into a summer blockbuster.
80.The Phenix City Story – weird blend of film noir, redneck revenge flick, and documentary. Very unusual film, incredibly harsh in parts for 1955.
81.True Believer – Re-watch. Fun late 80s courtroom potboiler.
82. Winnebago Man - The director is too present. Still compelling.
83. Macbeth - Roman Polanski's first film after his wife's murder. About as grim as you'd expect, and twice as bloody.
84. Scotland, PA – Re-watch. flawed but clever and charming.
85. 10 To Midnight - Re-watch. Bronson hates red tape!
86. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World – Like old Samurai movies- I understood none of the culture but was nonetheless captivated.
87. The Other Guys - Aim for the bushes.
88. Piranha 3D - Why God made 3D.
89. Mad Max - Re-watch. Scrappy fun. Gibson's a kid!
90. The Road Warrior – Re-watch. When the smoke clears, maybe Gibson’s best.
91. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome - Re-watch. Love the first act. Movie needs more cars.
92. Lethal Weapon – Re-watch. I’ve come to appreciate it since 1987.
93. Animal Kingdom – Solid but I was reminded of the dour crime indies of the 90s.
94. Machete - Fun in parts, but this shtick is over. Unless they do Black Dynamite 2.
95. Edge of Darkness - Gibson got old. The script is a mess.
96. Lethal Weapon 2 - Re-watch. I don't really love anything but the toilet scene.
97. Death Wish V - What kills the last two Death Wish films for me is Kersey's one-man war against the Mob. I liked the series more when he was killing street thugs.
98. Harry Brown – I like seeing old men kill thugs, apparently.
99. The Silent Scream – The Unseen did it better.
100. Psycho III - Re-watch. Silly fun lit like Creepshow. Perkins learning to enjoy his own legacy.
101. Jackass 3D - Loved it.
102. Land of the Lost - Ridiculous.
103. Machete Maidens Unleashed - I'll be adding some Jack Hill/Pam Grier movies to the queue.
104. Friday the 13th Part 3D - Re-watch. The first (only?) F13 film shot in Scope!
105. Night of the Creeps - Re-watch. The wife liked it!
106. An American Werewolf In London - Re-watch. As a grownup, the most horrifying part is the Piccadilly Circus car crash.
107. The Unseen - Re-watch. (spoiler) three family members going for Oscar gold really elevate this one.
108. Date Night - Moments of fun but so damn middling.
109. American Grindhouse - Covers some of the same ground as Machete Maidens Unleashed. Filmmaker had a bigger crush on Kim Morgan than I did.
110. Monsters - Great looking, but too slow. Cloverfield meets Before Sunrise, directed by Ti West.
111. What Have You Done To Solange? - The first giallo I've seen Fabio Testi in. I like his professor beard.
112. Four Lions - Solid comedy, but surprisingly elevated by the pathos.
113. Dirty O'Neil - Light, bawdy 1974 comedy, then with 13 minutes left, turns into a violent rape revenge film.
114. Batman: Under The Red Hood - The grim n gritty Batman film fanboys want.
115. Justice League: The New Frontier - more bloody superheroes.
116. Adventureland - Re-watch. I've warmed to it, just lack empathy for Eisenberg.
117. Superman: Doomsday - They made something watchable out of that comic "event"!
118. Ghost Town - I laughed most during the outtakes.
119. Due Date - Has its moments. More moments than movie, alas.
120. Predators - Junky fun.
121. Giallo - False advertising.
122. Dances With Wolves - long, self-satisfied.
123. Valhalla Rising - Quiet and unsettling. Not what I expected.
124. The Social Network - Quality abounds.
125. Anvil! The Story of Anvil - Re-watch. I cried again.
126. Psycho - Re-watch. The blu is like seeing it for the first time. As immediate as a 50 year-old movie can get.
127. A Christmas Story - Re-watch. Still makes me laugh.
128. Scrooged - Re-watch. Still makes me cry.
129. Predator - Re-watch. A classic. Sort of the perfect slasher film.
130. The Bird With The Crystal Plumage - The giallo blueprint! How'd this guy make Giallo?
131. The Fifth Cord - Franco Nero giallo. His eyes belonged in silents.
132. Tron - Can't say it made me want to run out to see the sequel.
133. True Grit - A perfect entertainment.
