Minnie and Moskowitz (1971)

"You don't know beans from Boston!"

Finally got around to watching this (yes, I know) and it's fantastic. I was sold right from Cassel's intro, Rowlands is stunning, and overall it's just what I needed this week.

My only real complaints are that the guys are weirdly antagonistic towards Minnie and Seymour's kind of an abrasive ass, but the whole thing still works.

And Val Avery destroyed me. That lunch scene was GREAT.

EDIT: As was the scene in the intro with Tim Carey. "You got freckles. My wife had freckles. ALL OVER HER ASS!"

Might not even qualify as praise, but easily Cassavetes' most "fun" movie. Good starter flick, comparatively easy to love.

I love that scene (and the whole movie). Carey is hysterical as always but the entire cast is great, including the hysterical (in my opinion) of Cassavetes being a gigantic dick to Rowlands only to then fetch her a drink, calm her down and then act like a giant dick again.

Wonderful movie.

Yeah.

People always point to The Killing Of A Chinese Bookie or (Ugh) Gloria as the "accessible" Cassavettes to start people on. But I say this one... It has all the Cassavettes elements you want. But, at face value, it really is just a fun romantic comedy.

And you do get Rowlands at her most stunning. She's quite sensual here.
