Frequency (2000)

Over the first few months of that year, Frequency was -indisputably- the best film in wide theatrical release. I was reminded of it thanks to the Movie of the Day feature, as it mentioned Jim Caviezel's role in Angel Eyes.

I haven't seen this in years, but I have seen it two or three times - does it hold up? I remember thinking it was fun, somewhat light time travel fare (EDIT: yes, I am sure it involved time travel), and the best movie Dennis Quaid starred in of the decade - which doesn't account for much, I mean, he's one of those strange actors in mainstream roles who is famous for no reason, without being tabloid fodder - but yeah, uh, good movie!

I remember it being enjoyable. I haven't felt compelled to revisit it, but I sort of think if I did, I'm guessing I'd be surprised at how much I liked it, and then proceed to forget about it again, which is probably what happened last time I watched it. It has plot holes, like any time travel movie, but whatever.

One of the best time travel movies out there and one of the better "father and son" movies, although a large chunk of it has to do with the cast and the seriousness of the approach. It's not winky or ironic, and it really works. The moment when Quaid sees his adult son always gets to me.

I saw this last night and quite liked it. It came a bit out of left field because for some reason I had it in my head that the movie took place in a sleepy town in the midwest and Quaid and Caviezel (see that? I just spelled his name correctly for the fisrt time ever.. he's earned it) shared long chats and the movie was sort of sentimental and a bit of a tear jerker

Instead it turned out to be a sci fi murder mystery thing, which was weird but also cool. Quaid was fantastic and I thought Caviezel did a pretty good job as well.. even though I was pretty annoyed at his character the whole time. He should have just said "Dad, take the other path in the fire and then quit smoking" and none of that bad stuff would have happened to his family. He got greedy and wanted to rewrite too much history instead of just fixing his relationship with his father.

PS Why did he tell his friend about Yahoo! but not his dad? It seems deliberately cruel that you wouldn't want to make sure that your family and children were financially secure for life if you had the chance. I don't get Caviezel on that one..

I'm still here chief.

I love Frequency. It functions as a nifty thriller, the time travel elements are reasonably logical and make more sense than most.

And it's a tear-jerker for guys.

It's one of those movies that's almost impossible to dislike.
