Cute New York Hotels

Hey there guys,

My lady and I were making plans, well flights are booked, to spend a few days in New York City in Mid-May. We were looking to find some cute hotels for about 3 nights. Nothing too fancy but cute. Small rooms would still be acceptable.

We've found some online but most have deals that end in March so if we have to book without a deal or special we'd like to find one that we really find charming.

Any suggestions Chewers?

And yes, I wanna see a Yankees game. While I wear my Angels hat. I know, I'm asking for it.

That's good, because they're all small.

What's your price range?

Maybe a smidgen over 200 a night. We don't mind staying a bit outside the hustle and bustle of the city.

Vader, I checked out...Citysearch.com and they list The Hotel Wolcott for...$180 a night for either a Standard Twin Room, or a Standard Queen Room. The Hotel Wolcott is at East 31st street between 5th ave and Broadway. I have not stayed there, but those seem within your price range.

Cute hotels? Like pink walls with cute bunnies serving you breakfast?

I think you are vacationing on the wrong city.

I've stayed at the Fitzpatrick Grand Central before:

It's right in Midtown, which I usually avoid totally, but it's pretty convenient to transportation. And it's kind of on a quiet little street, so it's not like right in the middle of the crowds. The little pub that's attached is overpriced, but the food is good (and you're in midtown Manhattan, so everything is overpriced) and they serve beer in Imperial pints. Lots of Europeans stay there, apparently, so it's got a slightly different vibe than your average Hilton or something. Also, the bed was super comfortable.

If you want some adventure, you can always stay at the Chelsea.

They're trying to gentrify this place up, but it's still pretty authentically weird. It definately has an atmosphere all its own, and all kinds of famous artists, musicians, and writers have lived and stayed there over the years. The walls are covered with artwork from former residents (the old landlord used to take art in exchange for rent sometimes, apparently). Objectively, it's kind of a dump, but it is a remnant of New York bohemia that doesn't exist anymore.

Personally, I like spending most of my time below 14th street, but places down there tend to be more expensive botiques. There are cheaper places, but I don't really have any experience with them.

I hope that helps. Keep in mind that while New York's subway is great, trips up and down the island can take some time. Also, check out the subway map before you go just to get a sense of what lines are around. (http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm) If you can, try to stay somewhere that's close to a lot of different lines, or to one of the bigger hubs.

Have only stayed overnight (at a hotel, anyways) in NY once, and stayed here:

Really small rooms, but perhaps fit the idea of "cute" in a weird way. If you want to save some money and plan to be on the streets all day, I'd highly recommend it.

The Library Hotel. It's not cheap, but if you look for specials and packages you can get rooms starting a little under $200. A very unique establishment, and probably worth a look even if you are on a budget.

If you're willing to wait until the last minute, use priceline about a week before you go. You can specify that you want a 5-star place in a specific area and that you'll pay $200. I've had great luck with it.

Great Neck is far from the city, but one of my favorite places ever is there. http://innatgreatneck1.reachlocal.co...n%252Bat%252Bg Great neighborhood, close to a bakery (Bruce's) and an art house theater. There are tons of restaurants nearby and you can take a train to the city, but like I said it's pretty far out.

Awesome! Thanks, I'll look, and re-check, some of these places. The Pod Hotel was an option and it did fit our idea of "cute" but I think we're gonna pass on it.

I'll consider the waiting last minute part as well.

I also have discovered that lots of folks have apartments for temporary rent on Craig'sList at a fraction of what our stay would be at a hotel but I've never had any experience or know anyone who's actually rented out a furnished apt/house for a little vacation anywhere.

Last thing I want is to die at a strangers place, or worse, have my terrible sex acts caught on tape and proliferate across the WWW.
