Please please tell me his name is pronounced "Boner", because if it is, that would be some incredible audio.
Because Republicans have done everything they can to avoid uncertainty, what with aggressively and childishly shouting down every damn thing Obama has tried to implement since taking office.

I hope he doesn't abandon this patriarchal approach anytime soon for fear of losing the centrist vote in 2012. I REALLY like this side of him, and I want to see it more often.

It really feels like we're heading for a "Let Obama Be Obama" moment. He's got to stop being so worried about coming across as the scary black president. These kooks already see him as that; if you're going to be painted that way no matter what you do, why hold back?
So if the Republicans stopped scaring us the recession would end and we could go back to Utopia? If every single one of Obama's ideas had been allowed to pass through everything would be roses?
Yes, that's exactly it. Well done.
Speaking of Republicans trying to stand in the way of everything Obama and his administration is attempting to accomplish... I still can't get over this FNC abomination.

No, what we're telling you is that the Republicans have by-and-large spent the last year impeding the President at every turn, shouting about economic doom and proclaiming that Obama is coming to kill everyone over 65 with his healthcare plan. One of them whining about "scaring the populace" when they've spent the last twelve motnhs doing just that - and six years before then pushing terrorism as a catch-all bogeyman - beggars belief.

I really, really hate anyone who supports the current Republican party.

Right, because the Republics only made the mess, why would anybody ever expect them to be part of the solution?

If the Republicans were trotting out better ideas -- or even alternate ideas -- then maybe Electrichead would have a point. But their modus operandi has been "If he's for it, we're against it!" They're desperately trying to keep things just as they are seemingly out of spite, but casting it as trying to protect us. When you cast your opposition as the boogey man, you don't have to make changes, you just have to keep him from making his.
If only the Republicans could cave as readily as Electrichead does.
If by "cave", you mean behave like responsible adults, then yes, that would be nice indeed.

It's naive to believe that they did this singlehandedly without any aid from the Democrats as you are saying. Both parties are in there screwing it up. Your own darling Democrat Senator that just dropped out said as much. Anyone with half a brain could tell as much.

The Dems had the majority for this first year and they didn't do much but fight and bicker amongst themselves. How has that solved anything? If anything I am more Independant in my views, I really don't like either party, but I do agree more on the Republican side, but I recognize that any politician's first job is to get re-elected, everything else is second to that.

Obama is part of that same equation, his goal is to get re-elected, after that is whatever he decides to tell us. He's had all of the power this year. He has had the majority, yet still can't get done what he wants. It's just the usual politics of everyone in the House and Senate fighting to get what they want or fighting to get what they don't want smashed. On both sides of the "aisle".

I don't stick around much in these arguments because it usually boils down to the 20 or so raging Obama defenders crapping on and insulting what anything anyone else is saying, and then turn around and eat whatever Obama shits out and says it's the best they ever had. It's not worth the energy to argue with people who are never going to change their minds.

And you wonder why people are insulting to you in here?

I'm not wondering at all, and I'm not just talking about to me here or any any thread. It usually becomes that in any thread in the political forum.
Because the party you agree with openly supports hatred, exclusion, rich over poor and so on and so on. So much of the right's philosophy is currently motivated by fear, greed, bigotry and namecalling and yet you have the gall to whine about people being mean to you. Fuck you.
Well, I respectfully disagree (with Electrichead). The only poster here I've ever seen unquestioningly fellate Obama was Princess Kate, and I've had her on ignore for months now. Plenty of us have mentioned we're diappointed with the laziness and spinelessness of some of the Democrats we helped get elected. And the only person who really ever gets dogpiled on in here is Snaieke, and that's because he pretty much simply refuses to debate in good faith and displays a lot of troll-ish posting habits.

Yeah, we're mostly liberal, and yeah, we kinda support the President. Doesn't make us shit-eating zombies, though.

I have not seen a "We love Obama" party in the CHUD Politics threads since the election. There's a lot of frustration and resentment on display because many feel he's not living up to what he promised and conceding way too much, myself included. You're reading what you want to read instead of what's there.

Thanks for illustrating my point.

As to the shit-eating zombies Singer, you were never one, and it has toned down lately. There was a time though that that was the norm in these parts.

Which mess in particular are you refering to?

Enron Loophole? Clinton (D) (this is the same loophole that enabled energy speculators to run up the cost of oil, making you pay $5 a gallon in 2008)

Housing crisis? Lookup Redlining and how Bush warned that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were taking on too much of a burden and could result in a financial meltdown if not addressed... who opposed this? Democrats like Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer* and Chris Dodd (google from 2001 where it was a warning, to 2003 where Bush said it was a systemic risk where he wanted to REGULATE and SUPERVISE the GSE's or even in 2006 where McCain (R) tried the same thing and every (D) voted against it)

Now, don't get me wrong... Republicans are just as guilty of being idiots and creating messes or contributing to the messes above but don't try and act like the Democrats are innocent angels trying to save us all.

* The same Chuck Schumer who caused the Indy Mac bank failure.

The fact that Palin is STILL the GOP frontrunner for the 2012 elections after all the grief she's brought them speaks volumes as to where their heads are at... buried deep in the sand of an antiquated ideology that never truly worked in the first place.

Who said she's the front runner?

2012 Watch: No GOP Frontrunner; Obama In Jeopardy

A national Gallup survey finds that President Obama leads a generic Republican by just 2 points in a hypothetical re-election matchup.
Romney's ahead of her in the 2010 poll and the guy hasn't really seen the national spotlight in almost a year (before this week) Besides, next year is when you'll see a front runner emerge after the 2010 elections.

If anything the fact the GOP has no front runner and polling indicates people don't want to reelect Obama should indicate an in house Democratic fight for the 2012 seat a la the 1980 convention. But those are today's polls and not next year's polls and things could change, you never know.

But you do acknowledge that there hasn't been that much mindless adulation of Obama from the left, on this forum or in general, right? I mean, I'm not an American, I don't have a stake in this except that I worry about the American conservative mentality destabilizing the world and exacerbating the current environmental problems. But when it comes to domestic politics, it seems pretty clear that right-wingers are much, much more likely to drink the kool-aid than lefties. They've spent the last year grousing about Obama, whereas it took six years into the Bush administration--after he was conveniently ensconced in his second term--for righties to grudgingly acknowledge that maybe Bush wasn't the reincarnation of Jesus and Ronald Reagan rolled into one.

When you think about it though (and I say this as someone who 99% of the folks this forum don't agree with) would you really want to participate in a debate and discourse forum where everyone agreed with you? I dot mind folks challenging nearly everything I say because one of two things are going to happen;

A) Youre going to eventually prove your point and emerge victorious

or

B) You may not "win" the debate but you'll walk away with information or a point of view that maybe you hadn't known or considered before.

Either way it's win-win as long as you're relatively open minded. Not everyone on here fits that bill, and yes every now and then one member will pop in to remind you that you're a closet racist and Holocaust denier (just to balance out the universe) but other than that it's not nearly as bad as you may have experienced before.

Snaieke, everyone here gives Democrats as much if not more grief as the Republicans because Democrats naturally expect more from Democratic lawmakers.

But: don't try to mischaracterize the housing crisis. I will have to chew you a new one. You've got it wrong and I would be happy to show you how and why in a different thread.

Back on topic, I can't believe what a whiny b*tch Boehner is being. What happened to projecting strength?
It's pretty clear that they're trying to start a narrative that Obama talks down to people and lectures and ignores 'real America.'

Which is a polite way of framing the "uppity n*****r" argument.
Well, I'm sure it sounds that way to some people and to others it's just the standard ivory tower elitist telling you how to live your life, blah blah blah. Republican talking points are generally good at hitting a couple different emotional responses with how they're communicated.
All of you judging the man, step in his shoes for a while. A black man being assertive is a scary enough thing on its own. Imagine him being the president of the US, too. The poor thing must have felt so intimidated.
Can we please get past the idiotic notion that anyone criticizing the president is doing it because he is black and the speaker both fears and hates black people? Boehner did not mention, allude to, or make some veiled coded reference to race. He told a story in which he made an argument to Obama that the Democratic policy proposals are creating economic uncertainty and stifling growth. Obama argued back that it was the Republican rhetoric scaring the people and causing the uncertainty. Sounds like a passionate policy argument between two powerful leaders representing different political parties and philosophies. So, where's the veiled racism? Boehner said Obama slapped the table, right? Is that somehow a black thing to do? Boehner called Obama a "professor offering finger-wagging lectures." How dare he reinforce that awful stereotype of calling a black man a lecturing professor. Clearly this whole diatribe is some sort of racist hillbilly code that Obama the Scary Negro Professor is ready to lead a race riot and slap/kill Whitey.
Apparently you haven't come up with any anagrams for "finger-wagging". Hey, if Glen Beck can do it....

Yeah, I just ran that through an anagram creator... and it's worse than I thought. Point conceded. Apparently, Boehner is insulting Obama based on race, sexuality, and ability to fly.

There has been quite a but of the mindless adulation on these boards and IRL since he was elected. It has toned down after a year, whether by people "waking up" or just plainly being dissapointed that he hasn't met his promises yet, whether that is warranted or not. Today no one has patiance. With everything online and offline happening at full speed, we might expect everything to be fixed and wrapped up very quickly. They can build a giant house in three days on TV, solve a major crisis in 24 hrs, etc. you know the drill.

I don't think anyone can escape this, on either side of the fence. Obama made a lot of big promises and people aren't seeing them happen. They may not care or understand why they aren't happening, just that they aren't. People are getting hired right away, they are still losing the jobs that they have, these are things that are happening everyday. Some may blame the Republicans, but I think the memory of Bush is fading for some people and the blame will fall on Obama's shoulders, whether he deserves it or not.

He had a year and a full majority of Dems to get it done and it didn't happen. I think people are starting to get pissed about it.

As to Palin, that election is three years away. She's popular right now. Not here, but in a lot of people's eyes across the country. They are letting her ride because it's good for the party. It's strictly politics and they are just looking for someone they think can win, regardless of their credentials. Obama was similar. He was popular, but maybe didn't have the experience needed, but the Dems thought that he could win, so they ran with the ball.

No I'm not comparing the two as politicians or people, as everyone will jump on my case about, but rather as two candidates that their perspective "parties" thought could win.

Oh Jesus Christ. You know what, just fucking stop. Just stop. Enron? What fucking mess do you think I'm talking about Snaieke? Fucking Enron?

No, the current fucking mess created by decades of 'bought and paid for' republicans working to erode market limits, oversite, and regulations, so the profits of huge fucking corporations and banks could sky rocket.

Fucking Enron, seriously, I can't believe you fucking threw that out there.

No, but how you obviously look at this whole situation with blinders on and seem content to think that everything bad in the world just happened to be confined to the political party you don't agree with is sort of a gas.
