2010 MLB Season - Page 4

By the way, didn't James Joyce have eye problems too?
That batter was incredibly out.
That was better than a perfect game. That was 28 outs!

Perfect games are so rare and difficult (and lucky) that there are really no factors that could so dramatically contribute to three in one season, it's just a deeply freakish occurrence.

That said, if there's an overall increase in pitching performances over the course of the season, hey, maybe baseball found a secret test for HGH?
I'm starting to think Jim Joyce might be BFFs with Rangers GM Jon Daniels after ruining Armando Galarraga's night.

Pretty sure the guy the Rangers got in return for that trade was released a month afterward. And hasn't played a game since.
We do have a pitcher with an ERA under 1.00 right now. I think it's more likely pitching has caught up with hitting rather than the HGH wearing off.
This travesty has stolen some thunder away from Junior's retirement, huh?
That, or retiring after hitting a buck fifty with no homers.
Galarraga's stand-up.

Without a doubt. He handled it with ridiculous class. So did Joyce.

Baseball is never going to have instant replay. It's shit like this that makes the game what it is.

I feel bad for Jim Joyce, I'd feel worse for him if that call wasn't completely atrocious. Good for him going in the clubhouse to apologize after the game though, that's pretty damn classy.

Cardinals have been kicking ass lately. Good to see. (Well, for me, anyways).
I knew it was a good idea when I picked up Troy Glaus in just about all my fantasy leagues.

2nd inning of Strasburg's debut. Holy shit, this guy.

6 K's through 3, so far. The ump's having a hard time judging his pitches as well. Pretty amazing to watch.
Let's hope his arm doesn't go the way of Mark Prior.

Yeah, the ump went from being annoyingly tight in the 1st to giving Strasburg the Greg Maddux Special afterward. Still, the kid's stuff is unfair.

Also, if it's perfectly understandable for a pitcher to not even try to leg out an infield single, add a goddamn DH to the NL.
11 K's on only 80 pitches through 6.

I'd love to see him face the Diamondbacks; he might give up five homers but he would probably strike out 20.

14 K's, 7 innings. I can't wait to see him face a real team now.
Strasburg is the real deal. Amazing debut.
Got some great tickets (free too!) for the game last night to watch Strasburgs debut. It was a pretty fun crowd and I have a few phone pics but well, they're phone pics so I'm waiting on my friend to send some from his camera. I was behind the home dugout, about 14 rows up and at no angle to judge the strikezone but that didn't stop me nor everyone else in my section from being rather vocal when balls were called.
People say I should be embarrassed for my team's worthless performance during Strasmas last night.

This feeling is nothing new.

Appeals court sides with Bonds on evidence
When people rail on government spending, can the $40-$50 million dollars being spent over the past three years on this nonsense be exhibit A?

Some more serious drama starring Wally Backman

Suffice it to say things weren't quite as tranquil.
What the hell league is South Georgia in?

I'm usually not a "What about the children?" type of guy but seriously, what about all of those kids at the game that had to hear that all of that garbage? Utterly fitting that Backman's first thought after leaving the field was to get a beer.

Bottom 7th and dual no hitters in Chicago. Floyd and Lilly.
The shittiest part of the AL East is that Baltimore is a 75 win team in any other AL division and a plus .500 team in the NL. Toronto, meanwhile would be in first by a few games in any other division. If they were in the "Randy Winn starts here" NL Central, Toronto would have already clinched.
Baltimore is a bad team in any division. Yeah, not this bad, but they got outscored 102 to 77 in interleague play. That's a team that's going to lose a bunch of games no matter what division they play in.
If you had given me a million guesses, I wouldn't have guessed the D-Backs manager was (up until last night) A.J. Hinch.
I think Tony LaRussa forgets that if the Tea Party was calling the shots a hundred years ago, he might not be here.
What's odd is if you are trying to keep 25 very diverse egos in check, is coming out in support of something that inflammatory all that great of an idea?
So Steinbrenner died and the NL actually won last night? That wasn't just some weird fever dream?
That fucking All Star game sucked. Changes need to be made in the way the teams are managed. Starters need to stay in the game longer, up to and including, brace yourself, THE WHOLE FUCKING GAME. It would have been much better to see Broxton face Longoria, Mauer and Cano instead of Beltre, Buck, and Kinsler in the ninth as the tying run.

Terrific speech by Dawson at Cooperstown.

I don't understand what the term 'Aquired' means? Where did the Padres send Gonzales to?
Good job, Morrow. 17 Ks. There were probably 30 thousand unsold tickets for that game.
RA Dickey, a knuckleballer for the Mets, threw a one hitter tonight.
Cole Hamels had the hit in the 6th.
The Mets have still never had a no hitter thrown for them.
Holy SHIT Cole Hamels
No idea Bobby Thomson was a Scot.
Clemens to be indicted for false statements.

So if Clemens is indicted, will Piniero, McGwire and Sosa be indicted as well?
Looks like Strasburg is another Prior/Wood. Gonna be 2 DL stints in his rookie year.
Stephen Strasburg meet Tommy John.

What a kick to the balls for Nats fans. All 37 of them.

Padres make #1 in the SI Power Ranking based on pitching and then get blown out by AZ.

The SI curse is alive and well.
