Chekov's Boner missing somewhere in Canada - Page 3

In the park? How do people not see that for so many days? Or did someone move the body?
Parks are different out there. "Heavily wooded area" I think they said.

Ooooohhh.

I read they couldn't see his body from the path nearby, so yeah, pretty dense.

Stanley Park is immense. Bigger than New York's Central Park. My grandmother lived in Vancouver and as a boy my family and I would visit Stanley Park every time we visited. I have no trouble believing that a body could go unnoticed for quite some time.

I'm not a supporter of Sarah Palin nor would I say I have no sense of humor like her, but these jokes are fucking disgusting.

And this is coming from someone who lost a family member to suicide by hanging.

Using the genre he's most versed in, the fellow over at Kindertrauma wrote up a little something about Koenig and depression through the prism of Carpenter's THE FOG. It's quite moving, especially if you're old enough to attach an emotional connection to Stevie Wayne.

And, if nothing else, it's a bit of antidote to the apparently inevitable crassness.

What's funny to me about all this grousing about whether it's appropriate to pick on a suicide victim is the fact that they've not only been savaged on this board before, but that it was much more personal - you really loved fucking with Blofeld by tastelessly bringing up his suicide attempt, didn't you Devin?

And that was someone you directly interacted with, not some semi-famous nobody you knew of from a friend of a friend. Bottom line, this place, and its users, really need to get some fucking perspective.

What on Earth are you referring to?

Pretty sure Devin just asked that some actual funny be brought, so no need to go all gotcha on him.

I was the one who got all high and mighty, and yeah, I guess that's my line in the sand. I don't like making fun of people's (board members, strangers, whoever) depression so much. But I don't much give a fuck who takes or leaves my two cents. And I'm sure I contradicted myself on the boards somewhere, so sorry in advance. I just felt for the family in this situation. I think it's sad.

Seems like I'm in the same boat as you Phil. Banks tried quite hard to catch me with old post I made, but he doesn't seem to understand the difference between freak accident and depression. Or child abuse. Or domestic violence. And so on. Sorry if I also contraticted myself, and I might do it again from that perspective. I guess, like Carlin said, anything can funny. But not everyone. Barely a handful of comedians could make rape funny like the master did, and those guys aren't typically on message boards.

EDIT: There's I guess some subects that are more touchy than others, depending on the person, but still, if you can't see the difference between a damned drug dealer whose face got stitched by a rival on a soccer ball and depression, damn.

It's all in bad taste. I remember Chris Benoit's murdered son being the butt of quite a few bad jokes back when that happened. That's a good deal more tragic than a grown man taking his own life, but here we are.

I suffer from depression, and it's a horrible, horrible thing. I can empathise with the Koenigs, all of them. My remark was more a comment on the nasty coincidence of two Joker actors winding up dead way before their time. But if people want to be callous, you may as well let 'em.

Mind you, the Chris Benoit thread gave us one hell of a fantastic pic.

I understand the difference for ME. Where I draw the line. Just like you do for you. And Phil does for Phil. I didn't make any Koenig jokes here because I too have some personal experience with this (GASP!). I also tend to shy away from cancer jokes since my dad died. But that doesn't give me the right to call other people out for what they find to be funny.

I appreciate your point that anything can be funny but not anyone, and from that standpoint I realize that making an unfunny joke about a touchy subject is different than finding humor in it. If that's merely the point you were making from the beginning, then I apologize for harping on you. But it seemed more like you were trying to shout down wholesale the very notion of finding funny in a situation like this.

I'm fine with that, honestly, since the whole "finding funny" thing with respect to this situation was more like strip-mining an entire fucking forest to find a single tiny gem that actually turns out to be desiccated dogshit.

The guy was famous for playing "Boner" and hung himself in a heavily wooded area. Some people would find humor in that from space.

Well, yeah. I just meant all that effort for such little payoff. It's an easy joke that makes for a deluge of easy jokes.

Not like, say, transsexuals or baby rape.

God, why do you fucking people keep bumping this wretched thread?

STOP IT JAKE

don't stop it
This threads on life support, it's only a matter of time......
...until I bump it.

Honestly, I have to say that I can't agree too readily with the distinction between joking about depression and joking about an accident or a "deserved" death. Jokes about those events require such a voluntarily limited worldview (Girl who loses feet feels just fine about being handicapped for the rest of her life, I suppose?) that it feels like dirty pool to assume that they're ok.
All of the "humor" that people were mining from the incident was an endless, repetitious stream of puns based on the name of a character he once played. I can see why we wouldn't want to rob the world of that kind of gold.

I hate to offend anyone's sensibilities by bumping this thread again but I can't resist mentioning that I didn't see that one coming in a million years - seriously, walked right into it. I should've known if anyone was gonna wield that as a point-ruining cudgel against me it'd be you Heavy Devy ;3

There's already a new Never Not Funny episode up called remembering Andrew Koenig. Of course it's touching and sad, but surprisingly, it's also got some great laughs in it. They pulled out some classic Koenig moments from past episodes. Of particular interest to us film geeks is his story of doing an improv scene with Gary Busey in a low-budget direct-to-video "has-been" movie. Hilarious stuff.

It's available on the free feed as well as the subscriber, if anybody wants to check it out.
