300$ bill if you dial 911

Just don't dial 911 in Tracy, California.

Quote:

Tracy residents will now have to pay every time they call 9-1-1 for a medical emergency.

But there are a couple of options. Residents can pay a $48 voluntary fee for the year which allows them to call 9-1-1 as many times as necessary.

Or, there's the option of not signing up for the annual fee. Instead, they will be charged $300 if they make a call for help.

"A $300 fee and you don't even want to be thinking about that when somebody is in need of assistance," said Tracy resident Greg Bidlack.

Residents will soon receive the form in the mail where they'll be able to make their selection. No date has been set for when the charges will go into effect.

That's the way to save California?
How are they going to collect? How many poor people are gonna die for this?

This has to be a joke.

So, if you happen to see an accident, or a crime, or whatever, and dial 911 as a common courtesy, you get billed 300 bucks? Yeah, this is going to work real well.

Around here we've had a 911 surcharge on our phone bills (a couple bucks a month)for years, is this on top of that, or has California not had something like that?

Is it possible to put a collect call to 911?

Holy crap. This is exactly the kind of case where you just tax the fucking thing if you really have to.

"Hello, you've reached 911. Please insert 1200 quarters and your call will be put through to our next available operator."
