VA Lawmaker: Disable Children Punishment for Abortions

Jesus Christ.

Quote:
“The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children,” said Marshall, a Republican.

“In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There’s a special punishment Christians would suggest.”

Um, that should be "Disabled Children."

This is the very first, and likely only, time I wonder what Sarah Palin has to say about the subject.

Those sound like the words of a crazy person. But no, lawmaker (not that the two are mutually exclusive, clearly). Amazing.

And the answer to the question posed at the very end of the article is no.

I think a member of her own party insinuating that Palin did something wrong to "deserve" a disabled child is far more offensive than a cartoon showing a disabled character and making a joke at Palin's expense.

Repug. Figures, he's from Manasshole.

For a second, I thought some Republican was suggesting that women who abort should be punished, by being forced to adopt disabled children.

It is, but I'm still not sure she'll go after him for it. She seems (surprise!) inconsistent on the issue. Didn't she initially criticize then later defend Limbaugh for his pejorative use of the word retard? But obviously this is a bit different. So who knows.

Nature does not have an agenda. It doesn't get pissed and then blight you with retarded kids

What a moron.

Heck, if nature had an agenda, it would be to ensure that as many offspring as possible survive so that your bloodline can continue. Duh, basic evolutionary theory!

Oh, wait, nevermind... He doesn't believe in that either.

Something like 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. So it seem nature and God do not agree with this person. The problem is people just have no understand of what sin is. I also think that many Christians would be happier as Muslims, being a legalist is totally missing the point of Christianity.

Seconded.

And are we sure this wasn't Michele Bachmann wearing a Bob Marshall skin suit?

That's a really interesting statistic. Can you site a source for it?

http://www.hopexchange.com/Statistics.htm.

It either seems that my data is really old or my dyslexia is getting the better of me. The new lost rate is 40% it seem, but I could have sworn that I read once it might be as high as 2 in 3.

there is also an age factor, and that maybe were I gor the numbers I said at first.

Quote:
The prevalence of miscarriage increases considerably with age of the parents. One study found that pregnancies from men younger than 25 years are 40% less likely to end in miscarriage than pregnancies from men 25–29 years. The same study found that pregnancies from men older than 40 years are 60% more likely to end in miscarriage than the 25–29-year age group.[34] Another study found that the increased risk of miscarriage in pregnancies from older men is mainly seen in the first trimester.[35] Yet another study found an increased risk in women, by the age of 45, on the order of 800% (compared to the 20–24 age group in that study), 75% of pregnancies ended in miscarriage.[36]

Now, if there is some sort of medical data he can point to to show that having an abortion greatly increases the risk that a subsequent pregnancy will result in a child born with mental or physical handicaps (and I have no idea if such data exists), that would be important information to publicize. I mean, people need to know the risks in order to be able to make informed choices. But he glosses over that to declare that having a handicapped child is God's punishment.

What about the handicapped children born to "good Christians"? Why are they being "punished"? And I'm pretty sure that before Jesus healed a man who was blind from birth, he corrected his apostles when they asked if the man was born blind as a punishment because he or his parents had sinned. If you are hypocritical enough to try to use your so-called Christian beliefs to condemn another person, it might be helpful if you know what Christ actually taught.

Seriously, what a douchebag.

Yes, the Jesus in the New Testament I read would not care too much for this guy's methods.

Oh, Old Testament, you and your crazy shenanigans.

Seriously, though. When did this insane love affair of Christians in the US and the Old Testament start? Didn't their boss, Jesus, pretty much say to forget all about that and that what he says is the law from now on?

At least reading about this gave me an awesome quote about God sending bears to kill children for teasing a bald guy.

That's a movie right there. Bunch of teenagers make fun of some old guy at a campground, so he curses them and sends GIANT POSSESSED-BY-GOD BEARS after them. Awesome.

A lot of people have a love of legalism, and the Old Testament is about legalism. So many 'Christians' live not in the NT but the OT. That is why I said, Christians would be happier as Muslims.
