HDTV Blu-ray help

So I took the plunge and bought a Samsung 46" LCD TV with 1080p and 60hz refresh rate.

I also bought the Blu-ray for the 50th Anniversary Edition of North by Northwest. Every review will tell you this is a pristine transfer.

So I'm watching it on my PS3 and something very disconcerting happens: whenever the camera slow pans, the image seems to vibrate (that's the best way I can describe it).

Is there a way to fix this by adjusting the settings (vis-a-vis turning off or on edge enhancement, noise reduction, etc.)? Or did I just majorly fuck-up by not buying into the 120hz hype?

The 120hz shouldn't fix it since the Blu-Ray player, I believe, outputs in 60hz anyways. And you said you have a PS3 so I assume it's firmware is fully updated? I'd re-check your HDMI cable as well or if you can swap it out with another one and see if it does it. Or if you can exchange the disc for a new one and see what happens.

Well, I'd just make sure that your HDTV has any sort of 'motion enhancement' or anything like that disabled. In fact, if you set your TV for 'game mode' it will typically take off a lot of the processing that can impact the way the image looks.

As for the PS3, there are settings which you can get to by starting the Blu-ray and pressing triangle on the controller and choosing AV Settings. The manual is online here and may have some settings that might help

Someone else suggested that I turn off the noise reduction and that seemed to do the trick.

But thanks for the speedy responses. Much appreciated.

I had a strange issue when I first hooked up my Philips. The screen would lighten and darken on and off again, and then I figured out it was the "auto-dimmer adjust" and turned it off.
