ComicsAlliance vs. Comics Journalism

ComicsAlliance has been doing something that's been badly needed for a while: mocking mainstream journalistic coverage of comics. These are great.

vs. CNN on "Comics Can be Movies! Wow!"

Vs. The Independent on Mark Millar

Interesting, but there's a certain amount of barrel-fish shooting going on there; I mean, alerting the internet to the fact that Mark Millar is a shameless self-promoter isn't exactly stopping any presses.

It's not about alerting the internet to this stuff, it's about pointing out how hilariously clueless mainstream journalists are about comics. It may be shooting fish in a barrel, but this is a major media outlet with about a million times the readership of the people making fun of them. Seems fair to me.

In the case of the CNN article in particular, it really does seem like journalists keep the same article in a drawer somewhere, and every time they feel the need to write about comics they pull it out, tweak some of the details, and reprint it.

Yes, this is what happens with every single small subculture. Everything from punk rock shows to state fairs to Barbie collector conventions to whatever.

I know, and it seems like a problem endemic to journalism. Obviously this kind of subcultural thing doesn't matter much, but it does spill over into, for instance, the climate change debate, when the reporters don't really know the science and are hostage to whoever's at the microphone.

...Of course, didn't mean for this thread to get so dour, I just thought those links were funny.
