You nailed it. It actually makes 'Highlander 2: The Quickening' seem tolerable by comparison.

I am so glad my self abuse of Highlander stopped with Highlander 3. I feel your pain for having had to watch this.

I have nothing to say about the television series, but I can't understand why any self-professed fan of the first film can watch any of the sequels. MacLeod didn't win to fight another day, he just straight up fucking won, game over. Nothing beyond that makes any kind of sense.

The thing is, I LIKE Adrian Paul and his overall take on Duncan McCleod. Seasons 2-5 of the TV show were, for the most part, pretty consistently entertaining. I honestly believe that he could have carried these movies if he'd been given anything resembling a competent script.

I remember bits of the show, it wasn't that bad. I to recall a car crash which involved two main charaters where one died and the other found out they were an immortal. For it's day it was ok.

Nothing is a good as the first film though.

I heartily agree. This franchise could have gone on for multiple installments, if only on direct-to-vid, with Paul in the lead if he had anywhere near competent writing. The guy has major stage combat chops. Say what you want about Endgame, that Donnie Yen fight was solid. And there were times on the show I wondered how he didn't almost kill some of his actor opponents. And the ones that could barely hold a sword (I'm talking Randall "Tex' Cobb here) he carried convincingly. There was ample potential here and it was just summarily pissed away by the handlers of the franchise.

He was certainly more convincing than Christopher Lambert in the combat department.

The entire series seems predicated on diluting the hero's struggle. It's like saying to Hercules, "You completed the twelve labors? What twelve labors?" and then "Oh, shit, those! Sorry you misunderstood, those are the initial twelve. We're not quite certain what the final numbers will be really, but once we know I'll have my secretary email them to you."

Unfortunately Paul was an executive producer on The Source, so I think he had a say in the story and other aspects of this monstrosity. I always considered Paul a solid lead in this series, but the lack of direction the latter seasons took, which flowed into the sequels just killed any hopes of a decent Highlander.

That's a brilliant choice of words. Dilution is exactly what happened to Lambert's character as sequel after sequel came out over the years, and I loved Paul in the TV series.

Watching this right now. The Guardian is the most ridiculous piece of shit character I've ever seen.

I liked Paul in the TV Series as well. It had some great guest stars. Roger Daltry, Ron Perlman, Sheena Easton and Roland Gift.

I thought Paul was great on the show as well. Very charismatic. A ludicriously good looking man, too - kinda surprised he never really did much afterwards. And Roland Gift was a fantastic villain, who'da thunk it?!
