The Legend of Bagger Vance

Ugh! This was awful. I watched it last night and was surprised to find that despite the level of talent involved, the film is dull, saccharine sweet, and a near total waste of time. The fake southern accents were grating and the plot paper thin. Matt Damon was fine but he was really given nothing to work with. His romance with (a never worse) Ms Theron was completely unbelievable. Will Smith turns in a fine 'magic negro', but his part is so underwritten that I can say that I'm honestly surprised that the film was named after him

A big waste of time. Even Shia in 'THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED' was more entertaining than Redford's mess of a sports movie.

EDIT: I give the movie points for having an "annoying kid" character that's not portrayed by a child actor who is actually annoying.

In my entire life, I've fallen asleep during only two movies. This is one of them.

In retrospect, I can't really be surprised. Golf is boring. Waxing sentimental about golf is even boringer. The film has the pulse of an industrial documentary about elevators. And as for Theron, Olivier gave a more awake performance in SKY CAPTAIN and he'd been dead already for a decade and a half.

I can't fathom the audience they thought might be interested in this. Even the vaguely positive mainstream response to the daft Neptunian garbage from Lars Of Triers is less mysterious.

Strange. My love of critically hated movies continues. I liked it (not loved) but then again couldn't tell you a single thing about it. Was Will Smith a ghost?
