PSN is down

I can't play shit.

Anybody know when it started?

I tried to sign in at 6:00 pm west coast time and no dice. How about you guys?

Apparently it's only US servers.
I don't know if this applies to your particular problem but we were unable to connect tonight and my wife manually corrected the wonky date/time settings and it fixed it.

Yeah, I called a couple of my friends and we all had our date/time reset to 12/31/1999. We fixed it and still nothing for me.

Three of us have the original 60 gig model and two others have the Slim. Us with the 60's still don't work.

One of the Slim's works fine, but my other Slim buddy works intermittently.

Wonder what the hell is going on.

Now none of ours are working. What the fuck is happening?
Now some shit is seriously fucked up. I tried to load Heavy rain just now, I get an error saying

"registration of the trophy information cannot be completed, the game will shut down"

All of the trophies I had earned for Heavy Rain have disappeared, I can't get the game to load, and all of the PSN games that I have downloaded won't play. I'm not even connected to the damn internet through my PS3. What the hell?

Great.

It would be hilarious if PS3 fanboy hackers assaulted Microsoft in "retaliation"

Leap day.
It's down here in Australia. Weird thing is I can't connect to online games, but I can connect to download the patch for SF4.
I can only suggest waiting until March 2nd and trying again... if the issue doesn't correct itself by then... damn. The 360's Red Ring O Death will look like a loud belch.
Sony's saying that they're working the issue and that only the older units are affected while the slim units are fine: http://http://www.nybreakingnews.com...ed-1267443634/
post #13 of 71
This whole thing makes me glad I was moving this weekend and haven't had my PS3 on for a week. Hopefully by the time I get everything hooked up again they'll have this issue sorted out.

Funny enough, though, I can use Netflix no problem. Suddenly, having that service on a Blu Ray disc doesnt seem like such a bad idea.

Still...this is highly fucked up.
My ps3 isn't even connected to the internet but has some odd problems with trophies not registering...not that they ever meant anything to me. The calendar was reset - I corrected it but it did not resolve that trophy message I get when booting up Pure. I even went so far as to try putting the Calendar a two months back and also one month forward. Shattered will not launch. This is hilariously crazy.

Glad I got to finish Heavy Rain yesterday before it all went to shit. Maybe Sony can spin this as viral marketing for 2012.

I so look forward to trying to nab the firmware fix from Sony's site but end up watching their servers die from everyone else trying to do the same.
So there's a patch for it now?

I hope I didn't mislead you with my post. I only mention downloading a firmware patch because I live in bumfuck canada - and can only update my ps3 via thumdrive.
Don't think there's one yet. You can follow them at SonyPlaystation on Twitter (as they suggest) to find out when they have a fix.

EDIT: And in an unrelated(?) note, Sirius' streaming radio has been down all day. Was there a Leap Day bug that no one saw coming?
There was no Leap Day this year. It was a normal 28-day February.
Perfect timing for Bad Company 2

That's what I'm saying. It's like some kind of weird bug because Feb. was over on the 28th instead of a later day, which is actually normal. Who fucking knows. Working in support in IT for so many years, you start looking for the obvious issue first (is it plugged in, etc.), and the first obvious issue with this is that you went from 2/28 to 3/1 instead of a "normal" 30th/31st to the 1st.
Ah, OK, see, my thinking is Leap Day makes it expect a Feb. 29th, but I see what you're saying.
The current theory is that the internal, unchangeable system clock thinks it's Feb. 29th and is giving the OS clock seizures because it's an impossible date. Since the internal clock is tied to GMT it may resolve itself at midnight GMT tonight (7 PM EST). And if it doesn't, there is a big problem.
The only good news is that, as Kriegaffe mentioned, firmware updates arent disabled. So, when/if a patch comes, it will be downloadable.

Exactly what I was thinking. They better get their shit together. Maybe the MW2 people are behind it.

It's the clock. Official statement- http://chud.com/articles/articles/22...KEN/Page1.html
post #27 of 71
Wow. Who knew that the Y2K bug would finally hit 10 years and two months later and only cause problems for previous PS3 models?
Aint working here in London either. First time I'm logging in, for a couple months atleast, since I want to check out the Heavy Rain.
Thanks for the news, Alex.
If (date == null) {continue};

I'd love to know the details. No error handling? A middleware thing? If it's a holdover from last year's leap date, that's pretty funny.
UGHHHHHHHH I was about to get on and play when I saw this. Nevermind then, I'll just wait til they fix it.
Yeah, I waited for almost a year before I bought a PS3, but I don't know if that was enough time to not be considered "old" anymore. Plus, my PS3 has already had to be fixed for a problem with the disc drive. I guess I'll refrain from turning on the machine until they've fixed it. Sony has their own "red rings of death" to deal with now, I guess.
My two 60GB PS3's are working fine as well as my two 250GB
post #34 of 71
Man, I'm glad you guys convinced me to buy a slim model instead of an older one.

I remember patching all my servers at work. Maybe they forgot to patch the older ps3 models?

I can't be the only person who's been refreshing

all afternoon. Ah, how I love their (possibly ironic) insanity.

I tried to set the clock manually but it didn't help. I'll just leave it alone and let them work it out.
So March 2nd GMT is in 3 hours (i think). I'll try it again then.
I popped in and played Uncharted 2 and it seemed to work fine. It even started to download the update, but I still couldn't connect to the PSN. This was a few hours ago.
Be careful that you don't lose your save or trophies, though. It's happening to some people.

Random anecdote: I'm a programmer in my day job. We actually had a Y2K bug hit in late 2000. When our systems at a steelworks went to change for daylight savings, there was a Y2K issue and it kicked in then. Caught everyone unawares as they had done all the testing months earlier at new years.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones... I disconnected my internet cable just in case. But the games are working fine. I double-checked the Heavy Rain demo I recently downloaded and played through the Sleazy Place segment no problem... Then I popped in Uncharted and played a little of that too.

I also checked and all my save games and trophies are still there.

I'll avoid trying to connect to the internet for the time being though. Until I hear the problem has been resolved.

Oh... I manually reset my clock too. It was set to January 1, 2000 at 7:37PM. I set it to the correct date and time.

Phew.
I won't be turning mine on until the issue gets resolved. Sucks, because I can't enjoy Heavy Rain. Or God of War. Or Modern Warfare.
I guess mine is working--the PS3 has been on since Saturday, and when I checked it out just now, the time is correct, and no error messages. Afraid to turn it off, though. Didn't try to play any games either. I've got the OG 60 GB (I think) version.
I had mine on using Netflix all Sunday. Havent tried any games, and much as I'd like to get some Heavy Rain in tonight, I have no intention to.

Maybe this is God's way of telling me I need to beat Mass Effect.
Shit, I was gonna watch a blu-ray tonight. Well, actually I was gonna play some Uncharted 2, but then I was gonna watch a movie. Now I'll have to, I don't know, read a book or something. Thanks a fucking lot, Sony.
My friend called me yesterday and told me about this. I had it off most of the evening, and turned it on just a little after 9 to watch a movie. I didn't log into the network, and all of my trophies were still in the system. I just turned it off and am waiting it out like the rest of you gents. Don't want my 60GB to turn into a paperweight.
I'm back online! Downloadable games are available to play again.
My fatty 80gig is fine. YAAAAAAAAAAY!
