Actually thats the thing, it wasn't lots of people. I would of expected the ratings to be up from average instead it was basicly the exact numbers Leno had when he left.

“Do you like hot dogs, Stephanie?” he asked. “I love them,” she replied in her adorable schoolgirl voice.

I notice Howard rewrites history with Letterman. Letterman did indeed take it for a bit and as anyone who read or saw Late Shift knows was in position to do what Leno did to Conan. He choose not to, but lets not sound like "he was passed over and immediatly left NBC" that just did not happen.

Stern is also rewriting history in saying that Jay Leno took the Tonight Show from Johnny Carson. I remember 1992 when Jay took over J. Carson and Stern was saying that Jay shouldn't be doing any sort of tribute to Johnny that those people who felt Jay needed to say something in honor of Johnny were crazy.

Anyone see the head of Toyota accuse Letterman of backstabbing Conan? Pretty hilarious.

That doesn't mean he didn't take it from him. Two separate issues.

And for what it's worth, Kushnick (and possibly Leno) were involved in planting an article in the newspaper that instigated Carson's unexpected retirement announcement.
