I wanted to really like this film, but could not find it in me. I did not dislike it, either.

I agree with Josh's assessment, Hardy is Bronson and he carries the entire movie. However, I feel I never learned anything about the man, other than he likes to fight and wanted to be infamous.

It is definitely worth the time invested watching this movie, but I feel it could be much more than what was delivered.

IIRC, when Hardy is in makeup he is on stage, ostensibly addressing an audience. When he's talking directly to the camera, he is makeup free and in a less theatrical mode. It amounts to a small difference, but I think it helps make the two aspects of the film feel distinct... one is breaking the fourth wall, the other a "live performance".

I agree the best bit of the film was the final, Son of Man influenced "art project". I think the film could have worked amazingly as a 45 minute short. At feature length, it feels a bit stretched. Still, well worthwhile.

I have the Blu-Ray from Netflix. Need to find time to check it out.

This movie has the best butt-naked fist fights this side of Red Heat!

One of the quotes on the DVD needs to be "More turkey neck than FOOD INC!"

Best goddamn use of Pet Shop boys ever!

I caught up with BRONSON recently. Thought it was terrific. Sure, it's a bit insubstantial, but it's such an exuberant exercise in style that I can't help but be impressed.

Chopper did this concept better, but it was fun for what it was.

The performance is even more crazy when you realize that Tom Hardy actually looks like this:

It's definitely not a perfect movie, but what it gets right is so goddamned good, it's easy to let that go.

It was the odd in between scenes that worked really great in that flick. Like Bronson posing with his fists after serving tea in prison, or him getting out and drinking a fruity drink with transexuals. The cartoon segment gave Hedwig and the Angry Inch a run for its money.

The "Your Bronson is showing" quote in that review gave me a big hearty laugh. This was one of the first movies I saw after getting Netflix, since it's on Instant, and Hardy really does a transformation. Criminal that he didn't get an Oscar nod.

I think this makes a perfect double feature movie with Chopper. Hardy is the goods in this. Its a good flick.

I liked the film but thought it was a bit long. I also can't quite put my finger on it but it sometimes felt like Hardy was off in some scenes.

Thanks to this film I now must get some Pet Shop Boys and Glass Candy.

I desperately wanted to know more about what made Michael Peterson become Charles Bronson.
Yep, this is the only real problem I had with the movie. I had heard about fake Bronson long before this, but he had always been a fascinating mystery, and this film could have been amazing if it had really gone into what makes him tick. Dunno if that's really Refn's bag though. Although there is that quite telling (and funny) little moment when Bronson walks out of prison, and he meets his dad for the first time in years, and it's so weirdly polite, formal, and distant.

Missed this review when it was originally posted, great job. "Your Bronson is showing" is one of the funniest captions I've ever seen.
