Watched this again last night, for the first time since I saw it in theaters way back when
It was pretty much like I remember it, only I'm older and wizened now, so alot of it seemed more clever than I had remembered it being. I guess as an 8th grader, alot of it went over my head. The Writing Class scenes in particular play like brilliant comedy
With that said, still not totally sure what the point of the movie is though, other than to make the viewer feel awful.
PS The little kid! I'd almost forgotten him. He has to be one of the most evil sociopaths in any movie of the Aughts. What was up with that character? It's literally the only movie I've ever seen where a child dieing of carbon monoxide poisoning counts as the 'happy ending'. What a little monster
In a way, I think that kid kind of steals the film, which is tough to do when you have actors like Goodman, Blair and Giamatti in your cast

PS Xander Berkley! What a cool name
