Parenthood - Page 2

Fake orgasm plot is right out of the standard plotlines book, but that Minka Kelly could make me watch me slideshow of a family trip to Jamestown as long as she popped up every 10 frames.

Graham is the MVP of this thing (and to think she wasn't originally in it).

I'm a horrible, shallow person and only just now realized that Amber is the same actress as Ann Veal.

Peet's shoutout!

Freakout scene well-played by Krause.

That look Graham gives teacher dude before they get down. Oh, that look.

Where's that enormous kitchen? The Ponderosa? And don't get me started on that glass mansion with the pool.

Dax's houseboat can't be anywhere but Point Richmond, which is not Berkeley.

The Erin Brockovich reference reminds me how Monica Potter used to get mistaken for Julia Roberts. In-joke?

Five plots this week, but only two with any real advancement. I managed to keep my finger off the fast-forward, but am getting really tired of Krause's not-with-my-daughter act (worth noting, though, that this is a relationship dynamic that the original movie avoided) and Christensen's Robot Mom routine.

Repeating myself here, but goddamn Graham is good. Maybe it's the writing I'm responding to-- she's the only one of the 'kids' who isn't a successful professional, and that makes her easier to identify with. Her chemistry with Mae Whitman stepped up a notch this week, and I really liked the extreme overlapping dialogue in the opener.

I don't dislike the show, but I honestly forget it's on.

After Lost (or Glee), I just have to watch anything besides V.

I keep forgetting to mention Sarah Ramos, but she's consistently good. Bit of a Claire Danes thing going on there.

Graham's acting is great, but the character they've written for her is not all that great.

As for storylines, Crosby's is the only real worthwhile one.

I know it's completely insensitive, but fuck Max. I want to punch the little guy in the face everytime he Asperger's up.

Soccer team with tie-dye jerseys, yes.

Sprawling country-club, maybe.

Graham's daughter suddenly becoming an idiot, no.

Amber is described as a smart teen who makes horrible life decisions. We've seen it with her blowing off the SATs, which seemed to have virtually no follow-up, but this one seems in line for what they've built her character to be.

I disappointed that the Crosby storyline (by far the best of the show) has devolved into the weekly pattern of:

Crosby is a guy of great intentions, does something wrong/borderline, Jasmine gets angry and overreacts, both realize they were wrong and make-up.

Every week it's the same story. Of course the same could be said of swimfan and her former male husband, Joel. Joel could be the biggest wet blanket husband , I've ever seen in a drama. Not to say swimfan isn't a complete stereotype of a female attorney. Two awfully written characters.

I have a theory that the show is written by liberals who are trying to write the show as a moderate-conservative would write the show.

I think, more to the point I hope, that Amber and Haddie have set this up to show Haddie Steve's true colors. I just don't want Amber to be that, uh girly about some douche that she knows just broke up with her cousin.

However this is a drama, so the story probably is going exactly where it looks like it is. Blah.

I seriously doubt it.

But at least have Steve and Haddie still together. If you are going to have teenage family drama at least turn it up to 10. However, given how the family responds to teenage sex, people are going to freak out regardless. Adam may explode from righteous overload.

I truly think the show is poor, but is fascinating to watch it make storytelling mistake after mistake.

And once again, it feels like we're watching Arrested Development with the "other" Aspergers parents.

Very little patience for Grandpa's behavior this week, even if (or possibly because) it is true to a certain Me Generation type.

Nice to see Bonnie Bedelia finally get something to do. And as soon as she told Graham to spruce up I knew we were in for another kickass black dress.

Whitman played the hell out of her confession scene.

Well I'm a little bit impressed this week. Not with the majority of the show mind you, but with the Crosby Arc.

He didn't want to be left behind while his girlfriend and son go to New York. Rather than forcing her to give up on her career and try to make her stay, he decided to follow them to New York. What a sensible intelligent idea.

The rest of it, not so good.
