ROME to return?

As a feature film, apparently:

I am excited. Is anyone else excited? Cuz I'm excited!

In the wise words of Titus Pullo, I'm gonna drink all the drink, smoke all the smoke, and fuck every whore in the city!

Yes... I am excited.

I'm not thrilled... they died! and the actors are older... I loved Rome but I'm worried this will be shit.

The actors are older, but the story seems to be set later, and only one of them, and that death happened off screen.

On the one hand, it's totally lame to take the ambiguity out of Vorenus's fate, and it kind of ruins the drama of half the finale knowing he recovers.

On the other hand, Fuck Yes.

Intrigued.

Hopefully it fares better than the rumored Deadwood movie(s), in that it actually gets made.

"About your father..."

The second season didn't live up to the first, but I liked the way it ended, even if it was uncharacteristically sweet for the show. Still, Rome was swashbucking and Grand Guignol plotting above all else, so I don't think there's a downside to rejoining Pullo and Vorenus.

Yup. I'm willing to risk (likely, IMHO) disappointment for even a small chance that it will live up to the series at its best.

Titus Pullo: Of course, your best method for pleasing a woman is the warm, beating heart of an enemy. I mean, women'll say they don't like it, but they do. Makes them wet as October.

Pullo and Vorenus back? Yeah, I'll have some more of that, please, thank you.

I think the second season is better.

OH MY GOD

OMG!!!!!!!

I knew it! Hahahah I knew it!!! I held out hope all these years (since june of 07), and that faith has been rewarded

I am basically in shock at this news and am crying in public at work (not even kidding, my eyes are tearing up)

I will return to comment on this in full later, but for now, let me just say this:

THIRTEEEEENTH!

EDIT: Bwa hahaha, take that, SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND!

"What are they, stars?"
"Holes in the celestial spheres"
"How far away are they, you reckon?"
"Faaar away, hundreds of miles at least"

GREATEST

SHOW

EVER

EDIT: How is this not a main page THUD article? This is by far the most interesting, exciting and important news that CHUD has ran in years

Oh snap... it just occured to me that the sets for the show burned down. They were literally the greatest sets ever, and cost like 75$ million dollars

How are they going to do this movie without rebuilding the sets, and wouldn't rebuilding them be hella expensive?
I believe Heller said pretty much immediately after the finale that the ending was supposed to leave Vorenus' fate up to your imagination rather than strongly imply he died. Although, the way it played, it also felt like he was kind of full of shit about that.

Still, I'd watch it.
When did the sets burn down? Doctor Who used some of them for their Pompeii episode not all that long ago.
Honestly, I'd much rather this was Deadwood getting a movie. Rome at least felt complete.

I think all sensible people agree with this. But it's not like Deadwood would start filming again immediately if this fell through.

Focus on the positive! I can't imagine Heller would do this if he wasn't fairly sure of a way to top Pullo biting the dude's tongue out on the Vicious-Badassitude Scale.

Any updates??? I've been holding my breath waiting for news since I first heard of this and I'm starting to feel dizzy

HBO should've never had cancelled Rome in its second season, and the second season could've been stretched to a third if not for the cancellation.
Stretched to a third? The show was heavily truncated to finish in the two. There were so much compression it was ridiculous.

It's really pretty tragic what happened to the second season. I've heard Heller say the plan was for five seasons

Season Two would have ended at Philippi
Season Three would have ended with Antony's exile to egypt
Season Four WOULD HAVE BEEN ENTIRELY SET IN ALEXANDRIA EGYPT!!!
Season Five would have begun with Antony's defeat and ended with the birth of Christ

Midway through S2 though they learned they'd only be getting five more episodes and so had to rush through 25 years of history at a breathless pace. The result? A handful of good scenes and moments, but much of the drama was crushed by the head long rush to finish the story
