Um... has anyone else been watching this? Because after two episodes, I'm already done (and watching the second was really gluttony for punishment).
I basically enjoyed the Gervais-Merchant-Pilkington podcasts (though I did get weary of Gervais constantly jabbing a figurative elbow in our ribs screaming at us that Pilkington was "a fucking idiot" over and over-- just shut up, Rick, and let US decide that for ourselves).
But I can't imagine who ever thought that reducing their wild stories to literal cartoons was a good idea, or even a vaguely amusing one. The Cambodian midgets versus the lion is a great picture in your mind: as a cheesy little cartoon it's just dumb and pathetic. Trying to create a visual representation of Paul "The Party Animal" Parker isn't a tenth as amusing as the way I pictured him. And for god's sake, one of my favorite audio comedy segments of all time is Merchant and Gervais taking off on the doctor and his "sex machine"-- to sketch it all out, and turn it into so-called "animation" (nothing really moves all that much) is the worst kind of "explaining a joke" ever. And the fact that all the characters in the stories obviously have to speak with the voices of the three participants just makes it look like a horribly unfunny ventriloquist act.
I honestly thought that the "Car Talk" series would be the least funny cartoon in history, but it's got stiff competition now.
And who decided that Ricky and Steve should look like Fred and Barney?
