People deserve to lose their jobs over a minor pricing error? Absolute bullshit.

But don't you see what's at stake here? To be deprived of a hardcover of a shitty comic to add to a bookshelf that's probably already groaning under the strain of a load of nerd tat, merely because those corporate fatheads at Amazon realised their mistake after a horde of ravenous fanboys descended upon them? That's not America. That's not even Mexico!

How many lame justifications can you guys come up with to justify your outrage?*
- Insincere form letter. Oh, the very nerve! If they hadn't lied to me and hurt my feelings I really wouldn't care. Really.
- Human error. I have been incredibly inconvenienced by this glitch! Heads will roll! I sure am glad I've never ever fucked up at my own job. If I did, I bet I would fire myself. I'd surely deserve it.
- They can afford to placate me. I've seen their books. I know all the calculated losses they've already taken last year. I am a genius.

How is it being on a high horse to call unethical behavior unethical? That seems to me that that should be a normal-sized horse.

Amazon gave me a 25 dollar gift certificate and I didn't even send them a I WANT BLOOOOOOD/ I AM OUTRAGED email!

Came to post the same thing. I'm placated, even though I wasn't really mad to begin with.

I've seen plenty of people lose their jobs over much less. Maybe your employer tolerates errors that could've cost the company thousands of dollars, but I suspect most others' wouldn't be that understanding.

Ditto, and I decided to use it toward one of the Starman Omnibuses, but I don't see it being applied to the order when I go to the checkout screen. I'm just kinda confused right now, because it said I don't have to do anything and that it would be automatically applied.

You are all holding BLOOD MONEY. You can atone for your sins by sending your gift certificates to me. I will see to it that they are used responsibly.
Be warned! You'll probably be funding some kind of weird nazi dvd binder campaign if you give Doug money.
CAN'T YOU PEOPLE SEE THIS IS THE WAY OF THE FUTURE?????????
I recieved a certificate too and have already spent it. And I never raised a fuss about anything. Thanks, Amazon. Real nice of them to do that.
Yep, got one, too. Very good of them.

So? What does that have to do with the people bitching over being "lied to" by a cron job?

Yeah, everyone is pointing at Diamond right now. Most of Amazon's TPB's are acquired through Diamond which is why they've been pulled from sale. They won't go back up until the glitch is found. Some publishers, like SLG, sell directly through Amazon, but they're reporting that they were removed as well. Guess Amazon isn't taking any chances.

So how does something like this happen? I noticed that a couple of UK bookstores' websites had the Amazing Fantasy Omnibus for £10.99, but noticed that the description of it was kind of screwy, listing Christos Gage as one of the authors. I googled the ISBN number listed and some random X-Men book popped up.
Each product for sale on Amazon has product data fields. These are updated either manually or by computer program. If any of these fields are filled with an incorrect value and not noticed it will end up on their website.

Really?

Assuming it's related (and it sounds like it probably is), this just gets weirder and weirder. It's almost got to be Diamond, though...they're the common link.

So anyway...wonder how long before Disney decides to start publishing/distributing their Marvel stuff from in-house since they already have their own channels to do so? I'm sure there's some kind of contract in place with Diamond but I bet it doesn't last in perpetuity.

Anyone else think a major shock to the effective distribution monopoly that Diamond holds could be a very good thing for the comic industry as a whole?

Marvel tried self distributing in the 90's when they bought Heroes World.
It went... poorly.

Sure.

But Marvel then isn't Disney now. It's not really Marvel self-distributing. It's multi-billion dollar multi-media juggernaut parent company distributing.

Disney hasn't done so well in the field of publishing. Plus, they've relied on Diamond from time to time via Gemstone and other ventures.

The problem keeps back to Diamond and how the industry can create alternatives to Geppi's near monopoly.

Have they? I didn't know that. Ah well, so much for my hopes of Diamond losing half its' business.

The industry doesn't seem to care enough to bother creating alternatives at this point. Not that such a thing is likely easy. Probably doesn't help that a lot of the outlets that comics used to have have pretty much dried up.

I mean, I dunno about you all, but I didn't get into comics by hanging around comic shops. I got into comics by getting issues off the spinner racks at 7-11 or the Army PX, or the grocery store, etc....

Diamond will lose half it's business soon enough when DC leaves. I'm convinced they'll be the first to go.
my order of 11 random items was cancelled, except for one item. and i got the $25 "we're sorry" coupon too.

all fine and dandy.

except since i live in canada, shipping would've been $64, so i instead shipped it to a store at the border (i live close to the US border) to get free shipping. i now have to drive all the way to the border (45 minutes there and back), go over the border, and come back, all for one graphic novel.

a fucking Onslaught x-men graphic novel, at that.

kinda fucked myself over with this whole shebang. goddammit.

I received my Invincible Iron Man omnibus yesterday, 3 weeks earlier than was originally stated, and also got the $25 credit last night. I'm not sure what happened, but it's pretty awesome.
It doesn't really compare to Amazon's glitch, but Overstock is selling the 350 page Invincible Iron Man and Thor trades for 26 bucks each, which is $14 off the cover price.
Wow, this thread. You crybabies realize Amazon has a "we don't honor price glitches" policy, right?

Are those the Simonson Thor trades? Because I still need to get vols. 4 and 5, but have been a bit shocked by the steep cover price on those.

In the last year a couple of my buddies opened up their own comic shop and for the upstarts like their's, unless you go to into the venture with a considerable backlog and history with Diamond you won't be able to get distribution for your shop. And unless you fulfill a certain amount of requirements, they don't ship weekly books until Tuesday so you won't get your books until a day or two after street date, therefore forfeiting the hardcore audience to shops that have their new books when they should. Since you have to suck up to Diamond to compete, they keep you on the hook because there really is no alternative.

Exactly.

On the other hand, Amazon is allowing new Omnibus orders again. I picked up Fraction's Iron Man Omnibus.

If the guy orders 3k worth of merchandise on their card a year, giving him the prices on those books is like a bartender sliding a regular a few beers on the house. A customer like that they keep happy. Most of the other people were wandering into the bar for the first time and screaming for free drinks.
