Amazon HC sale - Page 2

Sent an email as well (although I avoided the word "demand"). Will give it 24 hours, and if they don't respond, I'll follow up with a phone call.

Thing is, if they'd just said, "Look, we fucked up, we can't sell you the book at that price without taking a major loss, here's a 10% off coupon," I wouldn't have cared. But to lie and try to make it about things being out of stock...lame.

Well, that's only natural. Billy and the Boingers rule all.

Good luck, guys.
Also sent an email, will also make a phone call if it doesn't work.
I haven't received anything yet. Order is still "Not Shipped Yet."

You guys whose orders are disappearing: your credit cards are being refunded, yes?

Yeah, I suppose "demand" might have been a little, well, demanding, but quite frankly I was a little pissed off that they didn't even have the decency to list the items as out of stock or unavailable after sending a message like that.

I wouldn't even have cared if they'd just said, "Look, we screwed up and we can't fulfill all the orders we received (But yeah, some kind of discount or gift-certificate or whatever would be nice). It was the whole, "Oh, this stuff is now out of stock and we don't know if we're ever going to get any more in" that got my goat.

They don't charge until the item ships, so there's nothing to refund at this point.
I can't speak for anyone else, Bendrix, but I wasn't charged -- Amazon doesn't charge the card until the order actually ships.

I see. I just want to hear one success story to get my hopes up. I'm salivating over the Madman Gargantua, and there's no way I'm spending $100 on it.

Since Amazon's stock is all tied with their computers, wouldn't it be impossible for us to order anything if it were actually out of stock? When I was ordering I think the Fantastic Four Omnibus was out, for instance.

This is giving me deja vu of the Microsoft search club dealio.

Fuck you, Doug! We're entitled!
Hey buddy, AMERICA invented entitlement. We didn't invent fat, but we're damn close to perfecting it.
So far the success stories seem to only be applying to items that were already in-stock and not to preorders. We'll see.
They cancelled my entire order. So, Amazon can go fuck themselves. That is all.
I don't even care about the mispriced stuff, because, okay, it was an error. But they blanket canceled all the totally unrelated science books in my order, and then wrote this fucking weepy bullshit dear john letter about how everything's out of stock.

Nuts to you, amazon.
I wouldn't have cared whatsoever, but the fact that they've been cancelling orders without notice and lying to others is just fucking absurd. THAT is unethical. Fuck them.

My friend's order was cancelled and they didn't notify him at all. He only checked 'cause I told him based on this thread they have been doing that.
What makes it shittier is that if you were hording and buying multiple copies, they fulfilled you first.

Even if you purchased after others, it didn't matter. Just as long as they could knock down you 10 copies of Ultimates Omnibus at $8.64 down to 1 copy.

What I'm reading, though, is that they're not even fulfilling those unless you were one of the people who got in on this really early (like Saturday). The people who got the quantity change emails are getting canceled just like the rest of us, by and large.

I concur.
I just wanted my Bloom County, goddammit!

And yeah I got bit in the ass for ordering an extra Wolverine to resell(but it would have made my order free! Quiet Doug).

Be happy, Nexus. You've saved your soul for one more day.

Hey! I'm not naming any names, but it's not like anyone here, say, ordered an "Arrested Development" boxset, had it delivered to his or her office, and then complained to Amazon when it was stolen by another shady worker. C'mon, now. Because that would be ridiculous.
My order is still floating around out there, but like I said, it's not scheduled to ship until May 3. So I guess I'll spend the next few days just obsessively checking Amazon to see if its still out there, and then hope that it actually ships out when it is scheduled to. This is maddening!
Got a cancellation email this morning. Lames. I might write 'em, but I had ordered EIGHT books, so I don't expect as great a chance of success as some of you who had only ordered a couple.

Whoa: We Broke Amazon, Everybody.

And he's right. You can't order any graphic novel that comes through Diamond on Amazon right now. Marvel, Dark Horse, pretty much everything that isn't DC is unavailable.

Wonder if they're just trying to avoid the litany of "but you still have it for sale" complaints...
Aaaaaaaaand canceled. *sigh*
They got me on Madman Gargantua and The Invincible Library, but so far my copy of Criminal is free & clear. That's the one I want the most anyways...
HAHAHA

"I tried to unethically take advantage of an error that would have cost Amazon thousands upon thousands of dollars and they wouldn't let me do it. THOSE COCKGOBBLERS!"

Might not be apparent based on my post above, but I completely agree with Devin on this one.
I'm still getting my Invincible Iron Man Omnibus. It has shipped. Price was $8.24.

So take that as you want...

Good. Stick it to the cockgobblers.

I don't have any problem with Amazon cancelling my order due to a pricing mistake. They cover themselves with language for that anyways.

They just don't need to lie about it, is all.
Bunch of whiny bitches up in here.
Honestly, if my order HAD been canceled, I wouldn't have minded. Either I get a book for super-cheap because of a mistake, or I get nothing and spend nothing. Whatever.

As it stands, it's the former. And that's cool.

Really? If you went into a store and put a pile of books on the counter, and, before charging you, the clerk realized the prices for them were incorrect (up to 90% off) and you knew it was a pricing mistake and the store had posted the policy that they didn't need to sell something at the listed price if the price were in error (see post #20), you would still expect to get the books at those incorrect prices?

I'm not equating Amazon with a local store, but the backlash on the internets over this is a little ridiculous.

Not trying to single you out, Nexus.

If it had been the chance to bask in Stephen Sondheim's pisswater, you would be in here with us.

So, let's take it down a notch.

I guess I don't see the binding contract. They didn't charge anyone for the books. What did they breach?

I'm not trolling - just interested in the debate.

Wow, Anderson's that pissed about this he goes for the cheapshot? I say again: Bunch of whiny bitches in here. But, at least most of you know how to use a comma.

Legally, there is no binding contract. Amazon has protected their asses in the past with carefully chosen terms of sale.

Sure, it sucks. But, Amazon/Diamond was never going to honor it. The best you could hope for was to slip through the cracks.

This kind of reminds me of something I did when I was a kid. There was a burger shop in the town I lived in that was basically a Wendy's ripoff. On their outside sign, I noticed they were advertising cheeseburgers for .59 cents (it was actually the cents sign with the c with a line through it). Having just gone through the money chapter of math ( I guess I was in 2nd grade?) I realized that they were trying to advertise a 59 cent cheeseburger, but actually advertising a .59 cent cheeseburger. I decided to ride my bike there, order a cheeseburger, put a penny on the counter, and tell the guy to keep the change. When the manager came over to tell me I was wrong, I got into an argument with him about what his sign outside meant. The argument ended with him telling me I was being stupid and he wasn't going to give me a penny cheeseburger based on semantics because I was being a pissant. It took me a lot of years to realize he was right.

I mean, more power to you guys if you get something on the cheap, and I don't feel bad for Megazon, but I'm not sure it's worth getting too worked up over.

It's all good even if you were. I'm being a greedy fuck in this situation, I know.
It's not rational, but I'm pissed because I know people who got their books and they ordered at the same time I did. I got nothing.

I love how everybody is nerd-raging over being lied to by a canned email blurb sent by a computer program.

I talked to a guy on the phone. He said they didn't send any books that were purchased this weekend out to any customers.
You talked to someone on the phone about this, Bateman? Really? I expect that kind of nonsense from Anderson, but I thought you had better things to do with your time these days.

Face it, assholes, you tried to take selfish advantage of an obvious mistake and you failed. Some poor shmoes at Amazon will probably lose their jobs because you spoiled brats raised a ruckus over this.

Don't break your neck trying to get off that high horse of yours without a ladder (You either, Devin). Any "poor schmoes" that lose their job at Amazon are likely losing their job because the glitch happened in the first place (and rightfully so), not due to any "ruckus" kicked up by people for whom Amazon's fuck-ups are not their problem.
