Later With Jools Holland

This might be the most ideal format for a music show I've seen. Five guests, very little bullshit, for an audience, with a bar. I'm addicted, although we seem to get really old episodes here. There was one last week with Coldplay back when Chris Martin had his Jewfro and they sang "Yellow."

Found this show a few months back, and I love it and it's arrangement. Cool to see those old episodes too, to see who showed up.

Fantastic show - you'll be amazed at the incredible diversity in artists you'll get within one show. I remember watching it way, way back in the day and being stunned because it was the only way you were EVER going to see "heavy" style bands on NZ TV.

Hopefully you get to catch the 2006 episode with Muse doing stellar performances of "Starlight", "Map Of The Problematique" and "Knights Of Cydonia". That was one of a million special moments on that show.

Great show this, glad it's getting some love in the states. If you love this try to find some of the Hootenanny (new years eve) shows he does, pretty much every New Years eve party in the UK has this on in the backgroud.

I can also recomend the Small World Big Band cd sets he does, him and guests from his show teaming up to cover famous songs.

Yeah Jools Holland is one of the best things on British TV. It's great because the format allows two headliners, two up and comers and usually one band who you've never heard of. It's a fantastic tool for discovering music. It's where I first saw the Arcade Fire back in 2005.

They played the Arcade Fire episode today. Good stuff. That episode also had Foo Fighters, Black Eyed Peas, and Streets of Fire's Ry Cooder.

One of the recent ones I really liked was the episode with Joe Jackson, who almost never plays "Is She Really Going Out With Him?," but he played it on this show.

Now all I need is for Ovation or BBC America to play Jonathan Ross, and I'll be good.

I love the direct, unglamorous nature of Later, just panning around to each band in their corner of the studio.

Is this on BBC America? If so, when?

You really get the sense that it's all about the music for him, he just wants to hear these guys play and jam with them. Hell im pretty sure he would carry on doing it in his house if the show was ever taken off air.

It isn't on their show listings so I think the answer is "no". I watch it on the internet (as well as Top Gear, which is shown on BBCA but better seen on the web).

It's on Ovation.

If you ever find some you'd do well to watch his Annual Hootenanny. It's his New Year show and usually runs from about 11pm to 1:30am on New Years Eve/Day. It's almost worth not going out for and I've had some cracking New Years with some friends just watching it. It's got a real infectious energy to it.

I mentioned Hootenanny earlier in the thread, but it's worth repeating. These things are a staple for most peoples new years eve.
