The Prehistoric creatures thread (or thank god for extincion)

I think we've had a few dinosaur and ancient creatures individual threads and post before (search function says so), but given the amount of discoveries and documentaries on the subject (plus the fact that im betting most of us were/are dinosaur geeks), merit a specific thread for those magnificent, long gone creatures.

Let's start on a lighter note:

7 (Thankfully) Extinct Giant Versions of Modern Animals

I'm going to agree here that the giant drogon fly, sea scorpion and boa becoming extinct was a good thing.
I had no idea about that giant bird or bear,though....holy hell.

My work is very boring, excuse me.
Also, I didnt feel like opening with a boring post about the confirmation of an asteroid being the dino killer.

Edit: Also, Thora Birch is NOT fuck ugly.

And for the record, I care deeply about endangered and extinct animals. My avatar is an extinct animal

Do you know about haasts eagle? It lived in NZ till about 500 years ago, and was the biggest eagle in the history of the world. It was so large it killed and ate HUMANS

1) Yes, extinct animals are usually cooler than the ones that are still around

2) Cracked is great, I don't understand the hate

I hope I'm not the only one who kind of wishes the asteroid had missed earth entirely and dinosaurs would've continued to evolve into all sorts of awesomeness. Man never deserved to be at the top of the food chain. We're dicks.

I for one take pride in my mammalian roots

EDIT: I did once see a thing that showed what Dinosaurs might have evolved into if they'd gotten another 65 million years

I know Cracked used to be the low rent Mad, but these days it's often pretty funny! Chris Sims writes for them iirc.

I love Cracked! They always have amusing animals.

Plus if we're talking about weird extinct creatures I have to bring up HATZEGOPTERYX! It's a really really big bird thing.

Also, Megalodon aside, i'd never go in the water if Liopleurodon Ferox still existed:
