Couldn’t find a thread for this and then I realised that in all likely hood no one cares.
Of course I care. Back in the days when I only had a Gamecube (truly the worst gaming ghetto to find yourself in) True Crime: Streets of LA was the closest I got to Grand Theft Auto. Of course it was kind of ropey and all over the place (wait, why are fucking dragons crashing into my gritty kung fu cop game) but it always held a place in my heart. I never bothered with True Crime: NYC because by that point I had a PS2 and had access to ACTUAL Grand Theft Auto games.
So I’m actually quite interested in the new game. The preview below….

…makes the game sound derivative but it also makes it sound a lot of fun. The idea of Kung Fu fighting your way around Hong Kong sounds like it could be a lot of fun and the aesthetic seems to be derived from Infernal Affairs. It’s surprisingly good looking and the few gameplay videos I’ve seen show that it’s got fluidity and decent animation to back that up.
Hopefully it’s going to combine the elements of other games it’s ripped off to create something which is at least fun to play. 2010 is looking like it could really be a year for great ‘dark horse’ games with Darksiders turning out to be not be terrible and Mafia 2, Red Dead Redemption and Just Cause 2 all looking to quietly make bids for game of the year. Hopefully this will join that flock.
