Medal of Honor

Got the opportunity to be one of the first to sit in on a demo of the latest installment, and am just waiting for my embargo tomorrow (9:00 GMT) to spill the beans.

What's already common knowledge- this is the reboot that's finally taken the franchise out of WWII for the first time. It's set in Afghanistan at the start of the recent war, and they've talked to numerous "Tier 1" soldiers to get realistic missions and such. It's an interesting direction for the series but we'll see if it's a smart one.

More tomorrow.

So, Call Of Duty 4 by another name?

Possibly, but there are so many directions to go in terms of gameplay besides CoD's roller-coaster-shooting-gallery.

I know absolutely nothing about this but I'd suspect it's not as narrowly designed as the Modern Warfare games.

Proper use of 'camo text.'

Remember when Medal of Honor was fun? After the first three console entries this series can go fuck itself. I'll think back on the days when this series was pure pulpy entertainment.

DICE multiplayer? Curious but not even picked up their latest gem yet.

Yeah, that's just COD7.

Graphics look stellar though.

It looks impressive, and I have enough fond memories of early MoH games that I'm rooting for them.

Seems like there so many other possibilities for a warfare FPS. I'm waiting for a WWI trench warfare game. Although if it's at all realistic, you'd go over the top and be shot to pieces immediately.

Doesn't look to bad. A rental over the weekend at the least.

A rental for sure. Finished it up last night. This gives you a more realistic idea of what Modern Warfare actually is - no jetpack powered ski-doo's, nuclear explosions every other day, or outright laughable storylines begging for Michael Bay treatment.

Pretty decent treatment of the military, feels similar to the Brothers in Arms series. When the scripting works it sells a great experience as you fight your way up and down the Afghan terrain. On the other side the scripting too often breaks the immersion. There were a couple of instances where I'd steal a kill from the npc character, but then the npc character executes the kill animation anyway. There were several instances where I was ordered to flank an enemy position, and on doing so could see enemy forces teleporting into existence and promptly get killed by my team - only to teleport into existence once more. The sniping and vehicle sections are fun to playthrough.

Playing this reminded me of why Reach was such a good entry - that you were a part of a team, not some lone covenant genocidist.

Multiplay is okay, but I find more value in Halo/COD/BC2 to not abandon them for this. Sniping feels way too easy to do in this game. Which leads to most games devolving into snipefests, even in the objective based modes.

Had some fun with it, now to drop it off in the mail for something else.

I borrowed this so was able to give it a spin last night. I played through the first three missions on single player. They seem pretty typical. The controls are basically the same as COD, so it was easy to get going. It seems like it will be fine. I haven't really flipped out over any of the SP stories of these games since COD4.

The MP is a little better. Made by DICE, it's kinda a hybrid of Bad Company and the COD games. There's isn't the amount of customization choices that the other games have, but I had fun in the few Team Assault (AKA team deathmatch) games as well as the Objective (aka Rush) mode they have. Seems like it could be fun, but for me right now it's a 3rd place behind Bad Company and COD. I'll probably pick it up later when the price drops, but I can wait for now.

I've been trying to play this online and the lag is killing me. It's not too bad, but there are not too many people playing it.

I am thinking to buy psp with this game. What would you recommend Medal of Honor or God of the War?

God of War.  Both of them.  Hands down.

Just saw that Amazon has this for $25 right now.  You guys think the single player is worth it?

Don't really care about multiplayer.  I have MAG for that.  Black Ops too.

I've only played the first few missions, but it seems pretty decent. I know that's not a glowing review, but at that price you can sell it on ebay and get your money back if you don't like it.

I might pick it up at that price. I'm actually having a pretty good time with the MP part of it. So far my problem with the MP is that there are only like six maps I think.
