I think MADMAN's reputation exceeds it, but it's an essential. I've been curious about SLITHIS for a long time, it looks like the kind of dopey, eco-horror creature feature I'm so very fond of so I'll be picking it up.

Madman's kind of crap. But the trailer scared me as a kid. Code Red released my favorite old 80s gem The Unseen, so nothing but love from me. I hope they don't go out of business releasing this shit.

Madman is only worth it to see Fran from Dawn of the Dead naked in a hot tub. It's not half as entertaining as The Burning.

Madman Marz is definitely no Cropsy, and the film is not very good at all, but there's something about that early 80's atmosphere that pulls me in. That's no excuse, but it's the only reason I own terrible shit like FINAL EXAM, HE KNOWS YOU'RE ALONE, and PRANKS (THE DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD).

I still have my Anchor Bay MADMAN and might just be able to stick with adjusting the screen for it's non-anamorphicity. But I appreciate the heads up as I always forget about these Code Red guys. It's reminded me I need to grab that RIOT ON 42ND STREET before it vanishes into obscurity again.

Like Phil says, I really hope the market for this stuff is as good as it seems and keeps them afloat.

Hell hath no fury like SLITHIS!

I read elsewhere that Synapse had the option for Slithis but they passed on it. They've got several movies in the pipeline, one of which is The Dorm That Dripped Blood! Saw that flick first on vhs back in 2003, and am happy that it's finally seeing release on disc.

Madman is godawful and, yet, simultaneously awesome insofar as it just oozes early '80s slasher atmosphere.

Now if they could just put out Rituals like they promised. It is already available as part of a cheapo low quality multiple movie pack, but Hal Holbrook deserves better. And Code Red did such a great job on that other obscure backwoods thriller, Trapped (an essential Henry Silva!)...

I can't believe Anchor Bay's release of "Madman" is selling for $50 to $70 for used copies on amazon right now. A while back I picked it up for $9.99 at Suncoast.

Before reading this thread and realizing it was OOP and selling for a bunch online, I was thinking about trading it in at Hastings to make some room for new DVDs/blu-rays. I could sell "Madman" and Anchor Bay's OOP release of "Night of the Demons" online and make some nice cash now.

But being a collector of useless items, knowing that they're rare will probably make me hold onto them. And then re-releases will come out making them worth only a couple of bucks.

Any updates on Code Red’s longer-than-hell-delayed release of Romano Scavolini’s Nightmare (aka Nightmare in a Damaged Brain, aka Blood Splash)? If ever there was a release that’s run into one snag/speed bump/holdup after another.

First thing I heard way back a few years ago was that they were first having troubles securing a fully unedited copy for remastering, due to the original negative being horribly degraded beyond repair from improper storage. Then upon securing a fully unedited print, that was Frankenstein-ed together from a variety of different cuts of the film into one as-close-to-a-definitive-cut-as-possible, they had some issues remastering it since the various elements were of differing levels of degraded quality… or something to that effect.

Then after a couple of years when they’d finally gotten all of that taken care of, they wound up snagging an interview with Scavolini himself for the DVD extras but were then having problems digging up a translator for the subtitles of said interview (since the man apparently isn’t an English-speaker). That had to have been at least a year or so ago when I heard that, and since then I’ve heard… not a whole lot much.

So has there been any status updates since then? I’ve been really anxious to see this film get a proper DVD release, as I was a big fan of it first back during the 80’s as a kid, then grew to appreciate it even more later on in high school after rediscovering the movie and sharing it with a few friends.

Also, any word on if Code Red ever plan on releasing Joseph Zito’s Bloodrage? All I know is that they apparently have the rights for it, but I haven’t been able to find a single damn piece of info on any planned releases for it.

But yeah, much love and appreciation for these guys along with others like Blue Underground, Grindhouse Releasing, Something Weird, etc. All of these labels are a horror & exploitation geek’s salvation, essentially picking up the slack from where Anchor Bay left off with these kinds of releases back in the early 2000’s.

Nightmares in a Damaged Brain is some classic schlock and I would love it all uncut and cleaned up, but it's one of those Code Reds announced so long ago that I kind of doubt I'll ever see it (ditto The Farmer, The Mutilator, and Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker). I still have hope for Rituals though because it's a more recent case and from what I understand the hold up is because of extras on the dvd.

Bumping this thread for some really good news.

Joe Spinell's final film The Undertaker is going to be released, and right now they have a vote going on for 3 different covers. I like the 3rd one the best.

Nightmare aka Nightmares In A Damaged Brain is finally going to be released this fall after being delayed because of an interview with the director, Scavolini. The interview is being held off the disc since it needs subtitling that is way too expensive, so they're just putting out the movie with what extras they have.

They also say that quite a few of their movies are going to go OOP since they're tight on money, and aren't going to be doing re-pressings.

Yeah, I'm finding it hard to believe Code Red is still a company lately. The people that work there must all have day jobs.
The owner mentions on his blog that his other company and freelance work are paying for these Code Red releases.

Rituals is another one that they were going to release, but apparently they didn't have the rights figured out. Rituals would SELL, just like Nightmare will. I've never seen Nightmare, but the trailer is cool enough to get me to blind buy it.

Rituals on the other hand I have seen, and would gladly scoop up a remastered dvd.

I'll sell you my German Rituals big box DVD! Everything must go!!!

You having a fire sale, Gabe? PM sent.

I found a Rue Morgue advertising the Code Red Rituals dvd. That's how far along it had gone until they canceled it.
Beyond advertising; that issue had a big retrospective tied into the dvd release.
That issue of Rue Morgue I found at the local comic shop, but didn't buy it right then and there because of the hefty price. Going to look it up on e-Bay so I can get it cheaper.

Another movie they should get their hands on is Humongous. If only to clean up the horribly dark transfer from the vhs release.

Was it ever definitively established whether Savini had in fact done effects work on Nightmare?
