What's good on Cartoon Network?

I've always thought that the regular, non-Adult Swim programming on Cartoon Network doesn't get enough love. Yeah, there's a lot of loud, obnoxious crap on there, and the channel's infatuation with the 1960's Hanna-Barbera style is unfortunate, but Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, the DCU stuff of course and even more minor hits like Megas XLR and Kids Next Door...there's some great entertainment in there. I suppose the daytime thing makes these cartoons count more as "kid's stuff", too, which might be one reason why there isn't that big a fan community on the net (DCU excluded.) But actually most of the shows are pretty adult geek friendly, and certainly able to pull off the wink-wink popcult references better than, say, DreamWorks.

Sadly, the last CN show that I've really fallen in love with - the charming, inteligent Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends - has now come to an end, and I haven't been exploring the channel enough to know if there are any new promises. Anyone have some tips?

Batman: The Brave and the Bold is probably the best non-Adult Swim show on the network.

Batman Brave and Bold is indeed fantastic. Fosters is more magical than Flapjack or Chowder, but both those shows have such impressive visual worlds I'm usually sucked in, and give a few giggles for my trouble. And though no one ever wants to believe me, Star Wars: The Clone Wars got a lot better after Paul Dini jumped aboard.

Other shows I was surprised to enjoy more than most 'adult' TV shows:
Total Drama Island (aimed at teens)
Ben 10 (lots of ex-DCU writers and directors ended up here)
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
and The Super Hero Squad is delightfully tongue in cheek.

I'm actually very sad I couldn't afford to keep cable just for the loss of CN.

Dini is on Clone Wars? Since when?

I get to watch a bit of the Cartoon Network whilst sitting with the kids. There's a lot of forgettable stuff on there. But I do like The Grim Adventures, BEN 10 (which is both funny and pretty well written), Clone Wars, Johnny Test, The Secret Saturdays & Chop Socky Chooks.

Most of all I like - Skatoony (I'm not sure this is available in the US as it's a UK production) - because Chudd Chudders is fucking hilarious. I like Earl (who IS Tom Jones) also, but Chudd steals the show.

Dig Grim Adventures and Fosters. Haven't really gotten into Ben 10.

My favourite must still be Courage The Cowardly Dog.

No Brave & The Bold or Super Hero Squad on CN Europe.

Chowder, eh? I dismissed that after watching ads showing it as an animals + high cuisine show, and that just felt a little too Pixar cash-in for my tastes.

I HATE CHOWDER with a passion so fierce you could heat Hell with it.

I like Chowder. It's just ridiculous. I explained to my son that every character name is some kind of food, and he was awe-struck. And it's nothing like Ratatouille.

How can you hate Chowder? The show is brilliant! Also: hilarious.

Somehow Clone Wars has turned into the best Star Wars thing since the original films. Sad that the prequels couldn't be that, but let's save that bile for another thread. I've caught a bunch of episodes from the 2nd season and it's pleasantly surprised me. Then again, I didn't absolutely hate the pilot like some of you did. Zombies? Geekbait, but check. Political intrigue and assassinations? Check (handled better than in the movies, btw.) A Kurosawa riff where a Padawan loses her lightsaber and has to chase thieves all around Coruscant? Check. Multi-episode arcs that have weight and actual character beats that don't suck?! Check.

Episode nine. It actually got good around episode 5.

Chowder is occasionally grating, but the jokes that hit hit really hard.

ETA: Holy shit, Edlund did one too! I haven't seen that one.
