It is hard for me to believe that a search for a thread about this movie turned up nothing on these forums, I was almost positive that I saw one not to long ago. Feel free to include a link if you find it.
Anyway I just watched this again after a long hiatus, my last viewing of it was at least 10 years ago, and it is still a top notch film.
I love how there is very little fat in the movie, every scene is necessary to establish either a story beat or a plot point.
It also struck me on this viewing that if there ever was a template to how to make a movie of the book Ender's Game, this movie would be it.
I'm not talking about plot here, this is how a movie of Ender's Game should feel, lean and edge of your seat but no real "actiony" scenes (The games Ender plays in the zero-g gymnasium should be filmed more like a game than an action battle scene). The climax in WarGames is elegant in its simplicity, it is people watching a screen, helpless, hoping that the the computer will catch on to the idea of futility. The Climax to Ender's game isn't the same, but it is also elegant in it's simplicity and those who have read the book will see the similarities.
