Okay, this is weird...

If you read the thread "Where Horror Has Never Been Before" do so then check back here.

If you have read it. Truthfully, honestly, I had no idea this was gonna happen but it's fuckin' cool as hell. 'The Descent' has finally gotten the recognition it deserves. In today's movie news...

Variety - DreamWorks has gone spelunking for box office gold deep beneath the Earth, picking up rights to "The Descent," which sci-fi/horror specialist David Goyer will direct from his own adaptation of Jeffrey Long's novel.
Red Hour Films and Phantom Four Films are attached to produce the sci-fi thriller about a group of scientists led by a former cave explorer who must map and research a network of tunnels six miles beneath the surface. They must deal with a terrifying new species that dwells in the caves that may have been the basis for stories about hell.

Goyer and Red Hour's Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld will produce; Phantom Four Prexy Pascale Faubert will co-produce. DreamWorks exec Michael De Luca will oversee the project.

"As soon as we read Jeff Long's novel, we knew there were exciting opportunities for a film," Goyer said.

"It's great to be back in business with David Goyer," De Luca said.

The two worked together when De Luca tapped Goyer to write the "Blade" franchise while still at New Line. Goyer was also scripter for "Crow: City of Angels" and "Dark City" and exec producer of "Blade II." He recently opened his directorial debut, "Zigzag."

Woah...that sounds killer! This could be a really good movie, even if it sounds a lot like At The Mountains of Madness. But, hey, thats a good thing right? That should be a very good movie.

I read that piece as well. The involvement of Goyer peaked my interest but unfortunately I'm not familiar with the novel and the plot description struck me as being on the lame side.

But if the novel's decent then, yes, that's cool news. You can't go too wrong with a subterranean race of monsters.

And Johnny...nice job on the RE DVD review. Too bad about the Milla commentary, though.

Thanks! It is too bad, isn't it?

I read this this morning on CA but didn't have time to story-ize it. I'm sure Ryan will whip something together for it tonight.

Good stuff. I've never read the novel but I've heard a lot of really good stuff about it. And we need more movies dealing with Hell, I've always said that.

The novel is strange in that it doesn't quite go in the direction you expect it to. It does have a very cool ending.

Bad things, my friends. Bad things.

I do hope this project moves forward. It has great cinematic potential.
