If you have read it. Truthfully, honestly, I had no idea this was gonna happen but it's fuckin' cool as hell. 'The Descent' has finally gotten the recognition it deserves. In today's movie news...
Variety - DreamWorks has gone spelunking for box office gold deep beneath the Earth, picking up rights to "The Descent," which sci-fi/horror specialist David Goyer will direct from his own adaptation of Jeffrey Long's novel.
Red Hour Films and Phantom Four Films are attached to produce the sci-fi thriller about a group of scientists led by a former cave explorer who must map and research a network of tunnels six miles beneath the surface. They must deal with a terrifying new species that dwells in the caves that may have been the basis for stories about hell.
Goyer and Red Hour's Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld will produce; Phantom Four Prexy Pascale Faubert will co-produce. DreamWorks exec Michael De Luca will oversee the project.
"As soon as we read Jeff Long's novel, we knew there were exciting opportunities for a film," Goyer said.
"It's great to be back in business with David Goyer," De Luca said.
The two worked together when De Luca tapped Goyer to write the "Blade" franchise while still at New Line. Goyer was also scripter for "Crow: City of Angels" and "Dark City" and exec producer of "Blade II." He recently opened his directorial debut, "Zigzag."
