Best Comics you have seen.

Inspired by my trip to see Dave Gorman on Thursday last week who is the best Comic you have seen live?

For me its ether Gorman or Dara O'Briain, who both prove you don't have to pepper everything with swear words to make your set funny. O'Briain tends to base his material on what the audience tells him over the course of the evening whereas Dave Gorman is the only man that can make Power Point presentations funny. Both are more unique takes on stand up than simply firing off a load of jokes which (for me anyway) makes them more interesting.

Over to you.

I've seen Jim Jeffries 3 times and even on his weaker set, he had many pieces that would kill me and everyone around me. The success of his set can be judged by two things: a) how drunk he gets (can hamper the final half hour or so) and b) whether he gets heckled (can send the set into the stratosphere).

I saw Stewart Lee a couple of months ago and he is a genius, the way he performs should be infutiating and just not funny but I was in physical pain from laughing. The structure of his show is amazing.

Still got a soft spot for Bill Bailey although his latest tour wasn't up to much, probably because I saw it in the cavernous and souless Liverpool Arena. It feels weird watching a comedian from the very back of a 20,000 seater arena.

I thought Dylan Moran was excellent but that was a couple of years ago now.

And seriously, what is the appeal of Michael McIntyre? Amazingly unfunny, bog standard observational humour.

Don't ever tell him I called him a comic, considering how much other serious material peppers his live shows, but Henry Rollins is probably one of the best guys I've ever heard speak to an audience, in no small part due to the abdominal cramp I had from laughing so hard that night.

I saw Bill Hicks three times. He was the king. Amazing.

Runner up? Surprisingly, Jake Johannsen. He had a bit about a giant Buddah statue that nearly killed me. His delivery doesn't leave much room to recover or catch your breath, so once he gets going, the punches just keep coming and leave you reeling.

I saw him years ago when he was doing the Fist of Fun tour with Richard Herring, as a duo they were pretty funny, I haven't seen any of his Solo Stuff.

Bill Bailey is on my list of "must see" along with Billy Connolly.

Did you see his 'Comedy Vehicle' tv programme last year? The show was similar to that (in fact, I'm amazed he got a primetime show on BBC2). His style is very particular and I can see how a lot of people might hate him but I think he is brilliant.

I think there are clips from his '41st Best Ever Stand Up' show on Youtube if you have a look. The whole show is basically one drawn out joke about how his mum thinks Tom O'Connor is a better comedian than him.

I missed that, it sounds like something I need to check out.

I visited the Liverpool Arena for the first time a couple of days ago when I saw Star Wars in Concert and soulless does just about sum this place up.

He's not funny. At all. But, he's just funny and ever-so-slightly edgy enough to be plastered all over the totally-PC-and-too-scared-to-offend-even-the-smallest-of-minorities BBC. Bland is not a bland enough word to sum this guy up.

I'd love to see Eddie Izzard live - I've loved his stuff for well over 10 years, just never seen him live. I think his voice is just brilliant.

Saw Dave Gorman a couple of months ago and he was just OK - the PowerPoint stuff which I didn't know he did was great though.

Probably the funniest bloke I've seen live was Ken Dodd. Seriously - he's getting on a bit now but I caught him about 15 years ago when I was about 18 and I could hardly breathe through laughing. He's rude in a naughty saucy seaside postcard way but never resorts to swearing or crudeness. Went to see him about 5 years ago and was disappointed to see he was using exactly the same jokes.

Think my all time favorite was Les Dawson though - cannot find the words to sum up how funny I think this man was.

David Cross was of course, awesome. Ditto that Aziz Ansari.

I also saw Lewis Black after I'd sort of tired of his whole persona, and I have to say, he was still really funny live. Could've had something to do with the really low expectations though.

Nick Kroll is one of the funniest standup experiences I've had. I saw him at Bonnaroo in 2007, in his "Fabrice Fabrice" persona. I was doubled over with bad abdominal pain the whole time. He hosted/MC'ed the show that consisted of Aziz and David Cross. I've seen him do the character on other shows/online videos, and it's never been anywhere near the comedy stratosphere he was flying in that night. I think he might've been a wee bit drunk, which made him far more antagonistic to the audience. Which of course, was what made it so awesome.

He always reminds me of the not quite cool kid at school why tries to hard to make people laugh.

Not having much experince of American comics is there a big difference in the style of comedy? The American ones I have seen always tend to come across a lot more angry than their Brittish counterparts.

Hmm, that sounds like me....

I don't really care for McIntyre at all.

Bailey was great when I saw him last year, very intimate venue and a lot of audience participation. Even though he was largely re-hashing Part Troll, he threw in enough new stuff and the guy's delivery is pretty amazing. And its his best stuff to date anyway.

Don't worry Ben, no one is as annoying as McIntyre.

You're so lucky that you'e able to go and watch live stand-up. I love it but over here it's a fucking graveyard. I only tried going to one "comedy show" and the opening act was some douchebag with a guitar ripping off Sandler. The choice was either leave or get up and punch the fucker in the kidneys so I left since I'm a pussy. Which was nice because from what I heard the next act was some chick ripping off Lisa Lampanelli of all people. As you can understand I haven't gone to another show since. I can only watch bits and pieces of actual good stuff on YouTube.

I've only seen George Lopez and Cheech & Chong doing their tours, but I'll go with Cheech & Chong. They really brought the funny. Chong's wife Shelby was the opening act and she killed as well.

Wanted to get tickets to go see Conan O'Brien, but they were already sold out. Bummer.

Louis CK puts on a hell of a show. He and Patton Oswalt are the best working right now, IMO.

Dave Atell, Lewis Black, and Mitch Hedberg (a few months before he died). And they are & were amazing. I also had the pleasure of seeing these three in one show a few years back. One the best standup shows I've seen.

Patton Oswalt is also great. I actually also love Pablo Francisco, though a lot of people rag on him.
