Chewer Mix Exchange - Spring 2010 - The Jukebox from Hell

Haven't done one of these since last summer, so it feels like it's time for another go. Only this time, instead of putting your best foot forward, I want you to hurt people.

I want bad one-hit wonders, head-scratching b-side fodder from acts who should know better, really guilty pleasures, songs that are so bad they're good and go back 'round to bad again. All of which you can't stop listening to, no matter how you try.

I want the Jukebox from Hell.

Post if you want in. I'll keep registration going until Friday of next week, and update this post with who's in. I'll arrange pairings, and then you'll have until April 30th to put your mixes together and get them to your partner. You can go with physical CDs or an uploaded playlist, so international folks are welcome as well.

And of course, let us know what little nuggets of agony you receive. I'm almost certain there'll be many examples of "one man's trash is another man's treasure," and I can't wait to see the carnage.

Now go bring some pain!

The Culprits
1. Richard Dickson
2. Justin Clark
3. Ken Savage
4. Judas Booth
5. Parker
6. Mattioli
7. Ryan S~
8. Spike Marshall
9. Jeb
10. Martin Savage
11. Louris
12. Ray Abed
13. johnnycinco
14. NathanW
15. RathBandu
16. Jake
17. cheftournel

Of course I'm in.

Brilliant idea, Dickson.

I had fun with the last one so count me in again.

I almost did this for my mix for the last exchange. A friend of mine used to talk about a radio station that ran a variation of this, where callers would vote on two bad songs, with the winner going on until it was beaten. "The Night Chicago Died" was eventually retired as an undefeated champion. So I thought it would be fun for us to give it a spin. I expect quality badness from you people!
I'm in. Bleeding eardrums all around!
Sounds fun.
I live to make you all pay.

You are forbidden from putting 'We Built This City' on your CD.

In like Flynn. Even though last mix I sent out apparently got swallowed by the post.

I hope thats because it's an awesome song.
Despite having let the side down last time (never did get WTF his music, and never responded to the one I received), I'm willing to give it a go. The only danger I foresee is that, given the diversity of tastes hereabouts, I may not know whether what I'm sending will bring pain... or pleasure.
Time to let my teenage eurotrash pop phase out of the bag.

All part of the fun, if you ask me.
I'm just like Jeb.

But I'm in bitches. Prepare for some LADA GAGA!

But it's my ringtone!

Seriously.
I weep for whomever draws me. It'll be a weird mixture of guilty pleasure pop radio, obscure b-sides that nobody loves but me and crazy experimental shit. AKA, the greatest mix ever.
I'm in, and I'm tempted to do all Jim Steinman songs.
Totally in.

My love for mainstream pop is gonna make this a very interesting endeavor! A couple of the recent pop mixes that I made might do the job in a few people's minds, but that would be too easy.

Beware, my dear friends, beware.

That's about as thematically appropriate as I can imagine.
As fair warning, I have a very large collection of vanity recordings. I'm not talking famous actor turned singer vanity recordings/ Oh, no. These are people you've never heard of vanity recordings.

Or you might just get really bad Canadian artists.
Already planning this thing out. I have more awful covers/remixes in my collection than I ever realized.

God help you all.

And I have a simply obnoxious amount of '80s stuff on my iPod. It's coming, folks.

Oh, and, Ken, I'm seeing the Jovi next week in Philadelphia.
All I know is that my opening salvo is ‘Love to Hate You’ by Erasure.

I'm really tempted to catch them at the 02 but the tickets are £120 each.
I was working for Bon Jovi's record label when they first hit it big, so while I've never much cared for their music, dudes used to put food on the table, and I'll always be grateful to them for that.

But don't try putting any of their crap on my mix.
Ah but you see there is no danger of that, as I consider them good.
Ahh, but there's also fun to be had there.

I've got some choice morsels from good artists doing loathsome things to other artists' songs.
I've just remembered Kirsty owns all the Spice Girls albums.
Silence! That discography's my gold mine right there!

Bon Jovi rocks. On occasion.

Yeah folks, try to avoid mentioning any possibilities in here. We don't want to spoil any surprises.

Well played, Savage, well played indeed.
To add to this, my wife, my sister and their friends are going to the Bon jovi concert this Friday. I considered going (5$ tickets - my sister has a friend who works at the Bell Center), but someone has to babysit. I heard they give a good show.

And beside, the wife will come home wet and wild.
Martin- for your sake, I hope she doesn't sex you up thinking of Tico Torres.

I'd love to be a part of this. After working at a Tower Records for nearly a decade, my collection is both vast and filled with dreck. I could do some serious damage with a Pain mix.
No worry, I'm twice the man Torres ever was. In bed.
Whomever is the lucky person to get my mix is gonna feel pretty dirrty (hint, hint) after listening.

Whoever gets mine is going fucking hate me.
My mix?

Well, the term "What the FUCK?" gets tossed around a lot these days......
I haven't done one of these for awhile, so yeah, I'm in.
I'm thinking the best song on my mix will likely be "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" or maybe something from Aldo Nova.
Bring the pain, motherfuckers.

Everyone, since the thread seems to have cooled down, I'm going to do the pairings on Wednesday instead of Friday so folks can start sharing a little sooner. If anyone chimes in after that, I'm sure we can find a way to include them.
Hmm. There's a first time for everything, right? I'm in.
Sounds right up my alley. Want in, thanks.

------------------

Reach out to each other via PM to determine the format you want your mix to be in and exchange email/addresses as necessary.

I'm not going to place any restrictions on how many songs you send. But just keep in mind that there's more to be said for a clever, concise mix than simply sending three or four dozen songs in a massive lump. Ideally, I'd prefer no more than 2 CDs or a playlist of equivalent length.

If you don't hear from either of your partners by the end of next week, post in this thread and we'll see about setting up some alternate pairings.

Try to have your mixes done and delivered by the end of April.

Gird your loins, the suck is coming!
Can I send Nathan Mp3 instead? I think he's in England. It's gonna be the same as a CD.
