That said, this episode was pretty funny. I hope they can keep it up through the whole season.

I didn't really care much for the early seasons. More scatological than funny, IMHO. It sure did hit it's stride there for a while though. At times, I have to say it was truly brilliant. Butters remains one of the funniest characters I've seen in a cartoon.
But after a while I gave up on it. It's not that it did not sometimes have a clever take on certain things, it just was no longer must see TV (IMHO) and the show seemed to abandon real stories in favor of formulaic satire week after week. I no longer watch much TV, and so I just havn't made time for SP in a while.
Anyway, I don't know what it's like now so I can't judge it. I just remember reading about how after season 10, Mr Parker and Mr Stone's contracts were up, and they were ultimately lured back with gobs of cash. I sort of wonder though if they had anything left to say at that point
My question was to inquire if people who still followed the show felt the same way I ultimately felt about the direction of SP
