South Park Season 14

New season kicks off tonight, here's hoping they can shake off a weak Season 13 and come back with some fire.

I'll probably skip it tonight but watch it tomorrow or over the weekend.

Anyone else in?

"Mr. Duchovny, quit jerking off!"

"We have a turd in the punchbowl. I repeat, we have a turd in the punchbowl!"

Maybe my favorite episode since last year's season premiere. Kenny's Carradine act and then being in the coffin still wearing the Batman costume had me in tears.

I hope you will all indulge a quick question, and not take it as an attack on SP

Does anyone else feel that SP jumped the shark* around season 9, or so**? Basically exactly when the Simpsons did the same thing***

*I maintain that this phrase will never be out dated when applied to a TV show. I grew up watching Happy Days on Nick At Night, so the memory of that infamous jump (which the 8 year old me thought was actually pretty cool) is still fresh in my mind
**If memory serves me correctly, around season 9 nearly every episode became centered about a passing moment in pop culture, and they were all half clever at best
***If memory serves me correctly, it was the season after the one where they Go to Japan that was the last decent one. And I recall that being season 9

Yeah, Kenny's death, the chimps, the explanation men gave and the cautious looks they gave women to see if they were out of the woods. Were really good.

Good start.

Laughed hardest at Roethlisberger.

I'm not sure that it "jumped the shark", but I do agree that the show has been in decline for a while now, actually probably starting in season 9. The show was on fire from about season 3-8, and then the quality started to slip. It's certainly alot more hit and miss than it was in say, season 5.

That said, this episode was pretty funny. I hope they can keep it up through the whole season.

I didn't really care much for the early seasons. More scatological than funny, IMHO. It sure did hit it's stride there for a while though. At times, I have to say it was truly brilliant. Butters remains one of the funniest characters I've seen in a cartoon.

But after a while I gave up on it. It's not that it did not sometimes have a clever take on certain things, it just was no longer must see TV (IMHO) and the show seemed to abandon real stories in favor of formulaic satire week after week. I no longer watch much TV, and so I just havn't made time for SP in a while.

Anyway, I don't know what it's like now so I can't judge it. I just remember reading about how after season 10, Mr Parker and Mr Stone's contracts were up, and they were ultimately lured back with gobs of cash. I sort of wonder though if they had anything left to say at that point

My question was to inquire if people who still followed the show felt the same way I ultimately felt about the direction of SP

Maybe South Park could do an episode explaining what "Jumped the Shark" actually means.

The chimps and the sex addiction class had me bursting with laughter. That poor rich chimp looked so very happy for a brief time.

Tiger Woods '11 could only be topped by a John Daly golf game.

Great episode, though I need to watch the whole thing (gonna head over to southparkstudios website after work) as I was getting ready to go out for St. Patty's day drinking while the episode was on so I only caught bits and pieces.

Loved the turd in the punchbowl guy who laid everything out logically and then paid for doing so.

Also loved Tiger Woods's wife's overdone Swedish accent.
That and they made her so frumpy.

I enjoyed the episode (especially the preemption of Roethlisberger's "sex addiction" PR defense), but it off a few beats, preventing it from being a classic. In other words, they had some great ideas working there, but didn't have the right execution.

It's not very complicated.

lettermans wobbly dancing head will haunt my dreams

great start

Roethlisberger and Kenny's death cracked me up, but the rest was pretty tedious. It was one of those "we have 2 jokes, and we're going to run them into the ground" episodes.
They should have done something with all the women coming out of the woodwork, in Tiger's case. Lots of jokes to be had there.

Worth it for the monkey's public apology gag.

Ahh, whoops lol. I read your sentence too quickly.
Fucking hilarious episode.

"Shoot it in its blabbermouth!!"
Yeah, the shooting of the alien wizard had me at a crescendo of lulz.
The monkeys press conference, and the fact that they buried Kenny in the batman costume were the highlights for me.

joker lips
Yeah consider me happy to stumble upon a decent episode, but hey even The Simpsons sneak one in, so lets see how next week goes.

The video game stuff killed. "Yooouu Muther Fucker"

Kenny in the batsuit was also awesome.

I just want to bump this up to the top in the hopes that Joseph P. Brenner will finally fucking stop.

To be fair, he did start his first. But I scanned the first two pages and didn't see it. That's why I started this one.

Doubt he stops posting in his. Although I bet he's the only one.
The posting in the other one has stopped, the thread has been closed it seems.

I tried to post this in the other one on the topic of EA suing the guys over the episode..
But it's closed now, so I'ma do it in here.

If you ask me, they didn't necessarily give EA bad publicity, Just golf.
Through the episode they were just saying how "EA outdid themselves this year".
It's not the South Park guys fault that Golf is so inherently boring that it just gets made fun of left and right.
So really, if EA doesn't want to have their stuff parodied, maybe stop turning boring shitty sports into boring shitty games.
That rumor was bullshit. Even EA would never be dumb enough to sue South Park over the Tiger Woods game- how many times has the show referenced Rock Band and other titles so far?
Technically, it was Guitar Hero, but yeah, the joke of a site that originated the rumor has only been around for a few months and appears to be written by student writers. The sites that were actually reporting it as news (*cough*Destructoid*cough*) were pretty telling.

The best part was they quoted EA as saying there were multiple accounts of "copyright infringement" which illustrates what a poor grasp that site has on things. So yeah, they get 15 milliseconds of fame, but now no one in the gaming with half a brain will think to hire any of them.

Perhaps you overestimate the journalistic standards employed by said industry?
That's for another thread, but I really don't. Too often I read the shit out of amusement. Aside from loveable ol' Alex of course, there's a lot of hilariously bad reporting out there.
Destructoid, boy I don't know.

Any use of Tiger Woods '11 falls under the parody protections of the 1st amendment. Also everyone knows that South Park is one of the comedy franchises out there that wise entities know not to mess with. Going after them only inspires them.

And of course EA knows this, which made the entire story bizarre. Destructoid is a well-enough traversed site that they have to have some contact at EA. That was embarrassing (even for Destructoid).
at no point in that article did they say that EA was going to sue south park. their source just said that they thought it was funny and there were grounds for some copyright stuff, they're building something out of nothing.
Destructoid didn't start the rumor.
So?

They reported on it, which means they take some journalistic ownership of it.
I was responding to Deanburger's post which said there was no mention of the word "sue", though the original article did. I'm also quite sure Destructoid's headline didn't say "Rumor" before it last night, I wouldn't put it past them. That photo of Matthew Razak makes me want to punch a hole through my monitor.
Pretty funny episode. Really, really mean, but definitely funny.
"Matthew, why is there a transvestite donkey-witch standing next to you?"

Solid episode. Butters has to be the most put-upon character in cartoon history this side of Wile E Coyote.
Horribly, horribly mean-spirited. I loved every minute of it, though.
My juvenile self still smiles every time I hear the name Scrotie McBoogarballs. It was a pretty decent ep.
Unbelievably mean and juvenile and right up my alley. Killed me that Sarah Jessica Parker never said a word, she just stood there looking like that. And goddamn, Morgan Freeman's reading of Butters' book.
I like how they went the extra mile of having the extended spitting-after-vomiting gag on The Today Show.

This truly sums up my feelings on the episode.

2 for 2, South Park.
Loved Butters telling the guys to go fuck themselves. Not as funny as the first ep, but still really solid.

I laughed so hard at both Randy throwing up (and the aftermath...bottles of water on the ground) and the Chineese throwing up. Parker wearing horns while Kenny did the moose call and Butters being grounded were also awesome.

So far this season is off to a great start.
First strike this season overall, but the guys on their bouncy balls and the scrote coat was amazing.
Completely disagree. I thought this was the best of the season by far, and I liked the first 2 episodes. I can't remember the last time I actually liked 3 South Park episodes in a row.
It was a bit more hit or miss, but the hits were pretty great - and I still liked it overall. The bouncing balls had me laughing pretty hard.
Best three episodes to start a season in a long, long time.
Randy toting his balls in a wheelbarrow while singing "Buffalo Soldier" slayed me. Loved the episode.
