Since the majority of our bloggers have disappeared...

PM or email Eileen if you think you can pull it off and stick with it. Wide open field folks.

And I'll say this... with the redesign this stuff is going to get a lot more prominence.

Just realized this probably applies to me, as I posted one blog and dropped off the face of the earth. I'm sorry about that as school kicked my ass in a big unexpected way right after I started. It's still kind of kicking my ass right now, but once I get everything down and sorted out is the door still open for me to continue?

What are the rules about it being available on another source? I'm writing personal reviews for my Tumblr blog, can I post them here too or does it need to be exclusive?
Barry Eisler does this and we have no problem allowing him to post blogs here.

Still here, still strong!

I was away for a little while but came back with a new blog yesterday and there's a whole bunch more where that came from. Also looking forward to posting my DVD reviews in the upcoming week.

Thanks for continuing to let me post my stuff!

I promise to write more when I actually have something to say. Not that I did with my first one on here, but whatever. I did something like 200(of varying quality) when I was blogging on Myspace but I've really lost my will to write. It shall return.

I noticed one of the rules was to keep profanity to a minimum. What are the details with that? I cuss like a drunken sailor with my writing usually.

I try to do a blog a week, but lately I've been slipping. I've got one brewing for later this early morning, so that will be up in a bit.

I'm also going to ignore that bastard that left me a bad comment and continue to post about my daily life and other musings with the occasional movie recommendation. It's my blog. Not his. He can kiss a hairy asshole.

PM sent. I was thinking of doing a redesign to my chud blog and this might be the perfect time to do it.
I too must do the mea culpa dance. While I was never that prolific, I certainly used to post more regularly than I do now. Work and life really got in the way... But I'm getting my shit together and will get back into the fold. If I'm still welcome that is. I really do love posting my blogs here. It's a point of pride and honor. And it allows me to pimp the site to my friends. Alwaya a plus.
I really want to do this, but I've got a few other writing projects that I'm involved with currently and I don't know if I have enough time to maintain it. I don't want to be another guy who does two posts and then drops off the landscape. I love and respect CHUD too much to do that. That said, I still feel completely guilty that I still owe Nick a "Lobster" review.

Is there a deadline for notifying Eileen if we're interested? I want to give this some thought first before I commit.

PM sent Eileen.

I'm converting mine into the new home for Criterion by the Numbers. I need to wrap the Steve Coogan and Blind Side shit before I move stuff over.
How much coding knowledge do you have to have for this? Because I'd be interested in trying out, but the user friendly interface of WordPress stumped me.

Same here, and thankfully all that has ended now and I've caught up on Months of work induced insomnia. Would like to keep things going on a regular basis if the opportunity is there though.

Not that my writing is worth reading, but since my chud blog is the only thing that keeps me writing, I'm sticking with it for the long haul.

Sometimes I wish comments were disabled...
Disabled with a shovel to the face.
Anderson, I like your style.
Alright. I gave it some thought. I'm in. Sent a PM to Eileen.
I still have lots of stuff to bitch and moan about (and occasionally praise), so I'd like to stick around too.
I'd like to give it a shot. God knows I need any avenue to work on my writing skills. It'd give me a chance to work on different formats.
I've been meaning to start one since I came on as a DVD reviewer over the holidays. Time to pull the trigger. It will begin this week.
All set, thanks for the opportunity, I'll try not to let you guys down.
Serious question: for those who read my blog party, is it the kind of thing the site would be looking for when they ask for new bloggers? I'm perfectly happy to keep blogging where I've been doing it, but if there is a need for bloggers and if my work fits the bill, I'd be happy to step up

EDIT: I've been blogging since September with astounding regularity, so the 'stick with it' part I'd have covered at least.
Chemotherapy and a million Blu-ray reviews are holding me back. I've got plans for some shorter entries. Hopefully.

Life and work will ALWAYS get in the way. But those are the things that give you fuel for writing.

Blogs are:
1. An exercise in discipline
2. An exercise in writing

When #1 and #2 get reversed, the blog goes away. Simple.

Quoted you, Erix, because I think you sum up the major excuse when most blogs fall to the wayside. Meant to be positive, by the way. Good luck with getting your blog back up. You can do it.

Well said...

I'm fighting the good fight and posted a new blog the other day. I have a lot of fun doing it, so I hate myself for slacking off.
I'd add a 3rd point to what 88 inches said in that blogs are not only an exercise in writing and discipline but in knowing an audience. One of the things writing this blog is teaching me is that a lot of the stuff I find interesting a lot of people don't care about.

I guess you just have to live without the coddling of positive feedback and hope something sticks.
I didn't see the thing about Eileen saying it was okay to fold in other blogs to the CHUD one. I might do that with the one I just started about writing.
Well... The audience finds you, basically. The people who do find your stuff interesting and engaging are going to read you. And that's who you write it for. Besides yourself, of course. Whether or not they leave comments is besides the point, which is not to say that engaging communication with your readers is not a good thing but the fact remains: someone is reading. That's what matters.

But I think the moment you start to consciously think about "what your audience wants" is when you fuck it up.

But surely the blogs should be adding worthwhile content to the site rather than just mastabutory shouts into the void.
This doesn't really fall within my purview (because I'm an extra in a Regency costume drama), but being able to add tags to the blogs might help, especially for people who just want to read Chewer thoughts about movies and media.

Well of course. But, you have to think you are adding worthwhile content to the site. Otherwise, why do it at all? Any blogger who finds his own work to be masturbatory is wasting his and the readers time. You do what you do, hope it is worthwhile and then keep on doing it.

I like to think that, whenever I go off on tangents about life in Bolivia or taking a 16 hour bus ride to Chile for Watchmen, someone somewhere is genuinely interested in that. And I also hope that my take on, say, The Book Of Eli is of interest to someone too. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

I guess it helps to have an inflated sense of self worth.
And like that, I have a name for my blog.
I personally like to talk about Film and Film related subjects. I don't necessarily dwelve into personal topics unless there is something that ties it to the film world. I like blogging reviews, commentary and what have you to films and film news.

Maybe not inflated. But self-worth is definitely important. Having a low self-image is a harmful thing. It's good to keep your ego in check. But don't confuse good self-esteem with arrogance. It's not the same thing.
I just started one, soon to be folded in with the Chud blogs. It will be a horror-centric blog but with a large dose of humor. My first post is about THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE.

http://sebastianiswatching.blogspot.com

I have my next entry ready to go. It's a lengthy evisceration of the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake. I'm waiting until it gets closer to the release date to post it.

I'm really clueless about HTML and tagging and stuff. If anyone has any easy to understand techniques to share, please PM me or whatever. Anyway, I'm psyched to be part of the blogging community here on CHUD.

Are you going to watch the finished film? My timeline might be wrong, but weren't there significant reshoots after your test screening?

Yes, there were reshoots. That whole diner scene that's in the trailer was not in the cut I saw. In my write-up I cop to the fact that what I'm "reviewing" is not the finished film and should not be considered a proper review. It's more of a humorous rant. My plan is to see the finished film, then post again about the changes I noticed. Might be interesting.
Yeah, it could be the Roger Ebert "Brown Bunny controversy" of CHUD Blogdom.
Just out of curiosity...

How are other people going about plugging their blogs? I'm linking through facebook, twitter, and some Welles related sites for recent posts.
Just here and Facebook for me at the moment. I'm not cofident enough with my blog yet to try and mass market it.
Facebook, Twitter, and (recently)Tumblr are the only promotional tools for me.

I might be wrong but I think the problem with using twitter and tumblr to promote the CHUD blog is that those accounts also need to be promoted, and I haven't even done that properly.

I actually haven't made any other effort to promote the blog and really wouldn't know how to go about it. I guess I'm just letting people find it and stick around if they like it.
I promote my blog through my Facebook, my Live Journal (which at this point is probably useless), the geek blog I write for, and on the site for the web comic I write. And, of course, there's the CHUD forums thread I created for it.

Also, apologies if I haven't commented on some of the other blogs lately. I have been reading, but things have been hectic over the past week. In fact, this week's blog entry for me is going to be something I already wrote last year for my geek blog. I've just got too much going on this week to write something fresh. But, the article in question is one of my favourites and hopefully it's as good as I think it is.

And lastly, am I the only one who is corny and thinks that those of us who started our blogs the same week are kinda going through the fire together, and so have kinda forged some sort of kinship?

I'm such a weenie sometimes.

Very true. You have to use your own voice when you start it. My first few blogs suck a dick because I tried to be cute and funny to win people over. They are so weak. I just write without compromising now, and I think it's better that way.

If someone doesn't like what you want to talk about or the way you say it, they have other blogs to choose from on this site and others, and that's the way it should be. You can't be "all things to all men" when you write because you'll start to shed your unique voice. If readers resonate with you, they'll come to sit and read regularly and become your audience or read you out of curiosity from time to time.

I had kinda assumed that we would all eventually get to have an orgy while watching Mac & Me together.

So I mean...maybe your thought process is more on the point.

That sounds absolutely magical.

Or, for me, Thursday night.
"Mac & Me"? I'm totally there!
Man, now I want all us bloggers to really get together and watch Mac & Me. If an orgy should occur, so be it. Even better if a spontaneous dance sequence occurs as well.
