Dr Who Series 5 - Page 19

i liked the pandorica opens, the pacing was so frenetic and so much was covered in the cold open that it seemed like it could have been a recap of a whole episode, loads of baddies, Romans, Alex Kingston dressed like cleopatra, amy getting shot by rory. So many things and a great great cliff-hanger that screams: you will be here next week to see this.

the other i would like to shout out to was amy's choice, dense, layered claustrophobic (few mis-steps) but very well put together.

an honorable mention for Vincent and the doctor too, probably the most emotionally engaging episode ever.

As a big Van Gogh fan, Vincent and The Doctor easily takes the checkered flag. I was bawling like a baby at the end of that episode.

The time of Angels two parter and the first eppisode for me.

Honrable mention to Vampires in Venice if only for the line about them being space fish, and the "tell me the whole plan" bit.

Yeah the Angels two parter, The 11th Hour, and Amy's Choice were the other top top quality episodes this year, I felt. Actually I really dug The Hungry Earth and Cold Blood too. This season was pretty wonderfully photographed for the most part.

Season 5 all day today on BBC America leading up to the final episode. What joy. Glad I didn't have any plans this afternoon! I hope "The Big Bang" is a worthy conclusion, I loved "The Pandorica Opens."

I actually really dig Victory of the Daleks. I loved the way it kinda subverted the standard Doctor Who plotline and broadly echoed the larger storyline of the Doctor getting his ass handed to him by his enemies that comes to fruition in the Pandorica Opens.
Loved the sequence with Pond restoring Proffessor Bracewell's humanity by making him talk about unrequited love. Felt genuine.
I'm also pretty gay for Daleks, so there is that.

Did anyone go to/listen to the Doctor Who Proms? I caught it on the BBC iPlayer and it sounded like fun, particularly a bit where Matt Smith as The Doctor recruits a little boy from the audience to help him.

Watching The Pandorica Opens again, that ending is so damn effective. The wordless scenes of the Doctor being dragged into the box as his enemies look on, cutting back and forth with River trying to get out of the TARDIS and Rory mourning Amy, combined with that score just work to perfection.

And the finale was just as fun the second time around. This whole season has been a huge home run.

The recording is being broadcast internationally only for this week from the BBC Radio 3 site on their iPlayer. It's well worth listening. And yeah, the bit with the little kid was adorable. Must've made his year.

I really, really hope that The League of Extraordinary Who Villains was being set up for next year and will be explored further, rather than being thrown away like that. I mean, come on, you could EASILY get an entire season's worth of ongoing storylines out of that idea.
the league idea sounds good to me if only to hear them bickering with each other.

I just came across a comic called The Ten Doctors, which appears to have been released during Tennant's run. Anybody read this? Is it worth investing in and reading? I need some Doctor Who to get me through until the Xmas Special.

It looks pretty long, and the artwork reminds me of oldschool MAD Magazine/Cracked cartooning.

Here's some adorable video of Matt as The Doctor at The Doctor Who Proms (Day 2) interacting with a little boy who is dressed as The Doctor. The universe collapses from cute overload.

The Cracks now have never existed, so their reason for having created the Alliance also never existed. They all woke up in their beds snug and warm. Even the Daleks.
But the Evil that created the cracks is still out there, and there's still a reasonable amount of evidence that it's an evil version of The Doctor, so their existence could still be justified. Plus, hey, they don't necessarily need an elaborate justification beyond "maybe we can get rid of this guy if we all team up".
Nah I doubt we will get a team up, and quite frankly I don't think it's a great idea. Seeing the rogue's gallery at the end of the Pandorica Opens was bitchin' but I don't think a full series featuring them would be that great. Some in fight bickering could be funny, but it was more bad ass just seeing them all together like that for that one moment.
One thing: why were the Stone Daleks at the museum the old school style Daleks and not the new, Mighty Morphin Power Daleks kind?. And wouldn't people be all "WTF?" over the appearance of ancient metal alien war machines instead of just slapping them in a museum?
callagan -- werent those daleks damaged by the blast or time or whatever, i thought they showed a shot after the pandorica closed and everything was old and covered in grime just like the daleks that ended up in the museum.... maybe it was just supposed to be the degradation of it over time?

Also wasnt davros there, because that might explain it, they were the previous incarnation?
