Syndicate remake/sequel might have been cancelled. - Page 2

So this game got banned in Australia, due to us still not having an adults only rating for video games in this country.

What we do have tho is the internet, and websites happy to ship you compatible games from Asia and the like - so I should be tinkering with this little title by next week

So, this game is awesome.  Just like the Darkness 2, it's a tight, violent, fun FPS campaign.  The powers are cool and the game looks AMAZING, art style and graphics are top notch.  Anyone want to hit me up for some co-op on 360, Medium Dave it is.  I don't think it'll be worth buying right now, considering the single player is around 6 hours and SSX is out next week and then Mass Effect, but when it hits 30 bucks in a month...

Only six hours? I'm re-playing the original, and six hours doesn't even get you out of Asia!

Where did you get the original? Does steam have it???

...and six hours? SIX FUCKIN HOURS?

Original is up at Gog.com for 6 bucks. Had no idea this was coming out so soon, and it's already here. Will be hitting this up after finishing ME2 and Darkness.

Yeah, im not so keen on co-op, so ill wait till its cheaper; a 6-8 hour campaign for solo play is way too short.

Gog.com is EVIL. I ended up grabbing Syndicate, Masters Of Orion 1 & 2 and Beneath A Steel Sky. I can't go there anymore.

I'm surprised you didn't snap up any of the D&D sale items like Baldur's Gate, Planescape, or Icewind Dale. Still a decent haul. I still have my boxed copies of Baldur's 1 and 2, yet still bought them (because they're back in Canada) off GOG during last winter's sale.

Believe me I was sorely tempted, but my game buyings been going a bit nuts lately and I had to call it somewhere.

Don't buy it for the singleplayer campaign. It has zero atmosphere, tedious gameplay, and the inclusion of implant technologies is nowhere as good as in the Deus Ex games. Uninspired visuals, only a handful of enemies. Boring boss fights.

Coop apparently is a blast though.

Fuck.

Oh well, I guess this'll be something I dip into for a bit of a change-up like I'm doing with The Darkness. I had a sneaking suspicion this would just end up a poor mans Deus Ex, but I'm such an old whore for the original games and cyber-punk in general that I think my judgement may have been a touch clouded.

And the thing is? Twenty years on, the original game is still entertaining as hell. Especially once you get that mini-gun. Mmmmmmmmm, mini gun.

Anybody played this yet? Any thoughts?

I'm 2/3rds through it right now. Combat and gunplay feel like FEAR. The extra powers just aren't interesting and gameplay overall is unsatisfying. Nothing compares to dangling a guy by his leg and ripping his spine out through his asshole...Darkness 2 was much more compelling. There's some kind of future corporate warfare nonsense going on in the background as a story but I haven't gotten involved or invested in what's happening. A lot of the data appears as onscreen noise, prompts, and scannable They Live messages. Too much visual bloom in some levels; I had more fun playing through Hard Reset. Thing is so short. I've been playing through our company copy and can see myself finishing by the end of the business day. If this drops down to five bucks maybe then I'd recommend it, full price hell no.

Gods damn it.

My love of all thinks cyber-punk turned me into a punk on this one it would seem.

A day later the one thing that sticks to mind about the game is this is the fps equivalent of Tron Evolution. Generic overstylized world with zero substance, dull unintineresting gameplay, unsubstantial upgrade system, and technically it flounders but nowhere near as terrible as T.E. (cover system is so god damned wonky, sometimes your character puts the assault rifle right in front of his eyes, and enemies absorb so much head damage unless you opt for explosive rounds). When people were bemoaning xcom becoming an fps turdfest, this is the game they feared...If they had just let you operate from a hub style base to choose your missions as you go and earn upgrades via club/bulletstorm shooting skill point system (instead of ripping them out of dead victims) there'd be something here I could get into. They should've brought in Raven who did solid stuff on Wolfenstein to contract some of the missions/levels. There are parts where there are cool sci-fi vistas but those are quickly forgotten with same glowy hallway after samey glowy hallway.

Did you play the co-op?  Because the co-op is pretty freaking great.  I love being the Support guy hanging out in the back with the sniper rifle, picking guys off, healing teammates who need it and throwing out damage/shield buffs like candy.

Just waiting on my brother and friend's hicktown isp to get their shit together and do some coop with them. Coworkers also vouched at how fun coop actually ends up being, and that's one bit of this game I'd like to try too; as well as whatever coop offerings there are in Darkness 2.
