Knight in Battered Armor

KNIGHT IN BATTERED ARMOR < - MP3 FILE!
Nick - Bass, Vocals, Backing Vocals
John - Drums
Steve - Guitars, Backing Vocals

Heard the call and wandered through the battleground
and it brings me to your doorstep
you take me in and feed my inhibitions
kill my cynicism
you light me up with your eyes of flame

Dance, dance, dance, or open a vein
My Baby Love, my Baby Love
Disarmer
Let me be the one who fixes the way
when others are broken
My Baby Love, my Baby Love

Tried to stall but if I could just borrow your halo
if for just one day
I'd light the way
with fire, love and passion from my rebuilt compassion
now I burn at the stake from your eyes of flame

Dance, dance, dance, or open a vein
My Baby Love, my Baby Love
Disarmer
Let me be the one who fixes the way
when others are broken
My Baby Love, my Baby Love

Goodbye Love, I'm just a knight in battered armor
and I'm bleeding at your doorstep
untouched by blades, I failed to get your message
of faith and moderation
now I burn at the stake from your eyes of flame

Beastly

BEASTLY < - MP3 FILE!
Nick - Bass, Vocals, Backing Vocals
John - Drums
Steve - Guitars, Backing Vocals

Sundown has come
You and I are jetting down the river
secretly
one of us brains
one of us brawn
both of us blind to what we've stumbled upon

Beastly unfrozen berserker man
searching high and low
high and low
not high enough
not low enough

Sundown has come
not how we planned
bodies are floating
the Ripper Man
has both of the brains
and both of the brawns
both of us stripped
and now we're trampled upon

Beastly unfrozen berserker man
searching high and low
high and low
not high enough
not low enough

While personally I tend to prefer the more offbeat weird Nightstick songs, I was digging mellow chill out factor of these two as well. Probably would take Knight over Beastly (not that it's a competition) just because I was liking the more rustic guitar sound a lot. Jived with my notion of what a bunch of guys jammin at a cabin by the lake would sound like, I guess.

GET ON UNDER < - MP3 FILE!
Nick - Guitar, Vocals
John - Bass
Steve - drum, Backing Vocals

Sweet sunrise you're a sweet surprise
look at you all illogical and pure
I'd hit the bricks
you're so Plain Jane
you need to spinning on my game

Get on under me
get on down
get on under me
loved you since the day we met
get on under me
get on down
get on under
get on

You defy the laws of science, yeah

Get on under me
get on down
get on under me
loved you since the day we met
get on under me
get on down
get on under
get on

Living in these days where joy is void
look at you all shiny and new
it's got to be you
it's got to be me
you got to take a ride on my machine

Get on under me
get on down
get on under me
loved you since the day we met
get on under me
get on down
get on under
get on

OK, pretty much the same response.

I completely forgot to demand both of these albums while I was in town. Consider them requested- however/whenever would be easiest way to get them.
When are you guys putting this sucker on iTunes?

Also, did the intro to Beastly remind anyone else of the Minibosses? I like it.

In reverse order:

Get On Under - my fave thus far. It's one-note, but I love the hell out of the note. Plus, the guitar tone Nick gets evokes early Danzig/John Christ for me, so win.

Beastly - Though I think the riff is just ok, I'm really glad to see an overall straightforward rocking effort from you guys. One thing that could probably use a change are the octaved vocals. I think they're just becoming an overdone element. No reason not to do some of this stuff strictly in the higher register since it's still in Nick's midrange.

Knight... - Favorite vocals here precisely for the reasons stated above. Very nice change of pace. Another track that really reminds me of latter day RHCP, especially with the high harmony stuff, clean riffing, and plaintive solo. All very Frusciante.

Here come Daddy
Wallet Fatty
Condescending
Well, I'll be damned

My Potato (cinnamon is winning)
Add a lemon for flavor (sentimental women)
Left in doorsteps (elemental children)
Feed me, or I'll be damned

He's still kicking
Box of chicken
Navalgazing
Well, I'll be damned

My Potato (cinnamon is winning)
Add a lemon for flavor (sentimental women)
Left in doorsteps (elemental children)
Feed me, or I'll be damned

TELL ME EVERYTHING < - MP3 FILE!
Nick - Bass (as guitar), Vocals
John - Guitar (as bass)
Steve - Drums, Backing Vocals

Rise up and take your place
this can't be eternity, just fade away
don't it feel nice when it's your day?

I know you're gold but you don't
so put your trust in me
if you want an audience with the King
you've got to tell me everything

Reach up and take what's mine
this can't be eternity, just fade away
don't it feel nice when it's your day?

I know you're gold but you don't
so put your trust in me
if you want an audience with the King
you've got to tell me everything

Please wash the blood away
don't it feel nice when it's your day?

I know you're gold but you don't
so put your trust in me
if you want an audience with the King
you've got to tell me everything

Really dug this one, especially the vocals. Seemed like there was more of an effort to create distinctive vocals and a hook-ier chorus. Also, great groove to underpin it all.

In each post Nick makes of the song's lyrics (in this thread and the others) the song title - which is in green - is secretly an mp3 link. You should be able to Right Mouse Click > Save Link As (or Save Target As) to download it for zero dollars and zero cents. Get amongst it.

EXCUSE ME, I'LL BE ON MY WAY < - MP3 FILE!
Nick - Bass, Vocals
John - Drums
Steve - Guitar

Slapped in the face
thirsty for information
no time to relax
in your nation
I have plans that include only me
pressing business
pressing business that includes only me

Living alone is better than dying in a caravon
Excuse me, I'll be on my way

I love your company when on or under me
sounds that we make when we're snaking
no time to dine, this dance is mine
sitting under the carousel hiding under parasol

Fires surprise but I rise at the crack of dawn
Excuse me, I'll be on my way

Let's Caravan, Yeah!

It's alright to change your mind all the time
Excuse me, I'll be on my way

It's impossible to be the lord of flies
Excuse me, I'll be on my way

It's alright to change your mind all the time
Excuse me, I'll be on my way

Need not ask him why he goes
why'd he'd stay this long

The sound of footsteps echoing
The sound of footsteps is like laughter

Need not ask him why he goes

color left his eyes
long before he was gone

FOSSILIZED < - MP3 FILE!
Nick - Bass, Vocals
John - Guitar
Steve - Drums, Backing Vocals

Said he put her on a pedestal
High enough she can't let go
fear of heights, forgot the lows
we done come a good long way
"My bones, my bones"
Told her I'm the breaker of stones
eyes milky through tears & permeation
surprise sunrise suckerfish watches your eyes
through murky glass
bottom of my drinking can

Fossilized is where I ought to be
seen through glass I can be my own way
close your eyes, no need to pray
we're in yesterday

the moon lights the mood
shooting stars doing no good

Reserved a room under a pseudonym
pencil mustache watching her ass
cordless phone by default
feel it tighten around the throat
through murky glass
feel it pulsing in his hand

Fossilized is where I ought to be
seen through glass I can be my own way
close your eyes, no need to pray
we're in yesterday

the moon lights the mood
shooting stars doing no good

The album is finished, and a new track order revealed for the masses! I must say, I'm very proud of how this whole thing came together. A top-notch producing job by N has this record sounding great throughout.

I hope those who hear it really enjoy it as much as I do.
My favorite tracks are Get On Under, My Potato, Red Eyes, Tell Me Everything, and Wioslea. Great production and musicianship on every track, though.

Can't wait!

I'm doing two minor mixing tweaks before I submit it to the music world, but I'm anxious to get folks' take.

My favorites in order are Fossilized, Knight, Get on Under, Prick, and Tell Me Everything.
Am working my way through this but love it so far. That first improv song is a blast.

The only ones that didn't really grab me were "Fossilized" and "Red Eyes." The rest were great. The title track from LOBSTER is still my favorite Nightsticks tune, but these all came really close - again, especially "Prick."

Should have chimed back in earlier, loved the Album. I will post more coherant thought's when I haven't had three sleepless nights in a row.
I, too, shouldn't have taken so long to register my approval.

"Fossilized" has a groove that just won't quit. It'd make a great set opener.
"Footsteps" comes on like Fugazi on a space-rock kick.
"Get On Under" seems destined to become a band practice favourite with my cohorts. It's as fun as it is chugging.
"Excuse Me I'll Be On My Way" reminds me so much of one of our songs, because of the chorus riff - particularly, the "Whole Lotta Rosie" style descending/ascending riff. This is definitely a compliment, since that's one of our favourite originals.
Still haven't picked this one up, but I shall as soon as the rent goes through. But while I'm here I might as well go on record as LOVING The Lucky Nightsticks. "Gas-powered Sarcophagus" "Sugar-Coated Monkey," all of X-MAS IS FUCKED, "Lobster" "Futterman's Peanut Butter" and "Father Pain" and are all "anytime/anywhere" classics. And as of yet I've heard the albums on which those songs appear
post #38 of 46
Okay, this is coming from someone who doesn't know shit-one about music. So, excuse any misapplied terms or whatever, I'm doing my best to be valuable here though I just don't have the knowledge to get intensely detailed. I know this didn't come particularly quickly, but I wanted to make sure I delivered on the promised reaction.

Overall I dug the hell out of it, and it will definitely be getting rotation when I'm driving.

Fossilized - Love the riff, the bass-line, vocals, the whole package. Also might be the best mixed track on the album to my ear.

Footsteps - Nice moody/trippy experimenting going on musically. Like the solo moments, but can't get over the hyper-present vocals.

Knight in Battered Armor - Like the growl. Like everything on this one. Lyrics stand out, as does the pickin'.

Get On Under - Great track, love the sudden energy and heaviness. Can't wait to blast this in our SUVs good system and rock out on the highway.

Prick - Nicely produced and love the interesting sound. Frequency shifting/warbling is super cool.

Red Eyes - I think the octave layering is particularly effective here. Drums caught my ear nicely. Totally into the last 30 seconds.

My Potato - What the fuck can I say about My Potato that hasn't been said? S'great. All there is to it.

Tell Me Everything - Love the crunchy, heavy sound on this one. Another great rock out. Good mix. Lyrics are good.

Beastly - Another one that the layers feel inexplicably disjointed. Not to a distracting or detrimental degree, just enough that I noticed. Good track though.

Wioslea - Totally into it. More steel drum fuckabouts please.

Excuse Me I'll Be On My Way - Good closer. Lyrics are nice.

The album really opened up when I listened to it in the car today. Amplitude and space do a lot for the mixes.

To hell with rent/food/hygiene products. I'm buying this shit RIGHT NOW. Won't have a fair assessment for a while (I'm still exploring and finding new angles of awesome in INTERLOPER).

And yes, great write-up Renn. I'm sure I know even less technically about music than you, but the descriptions were intriguing and admirably described the song's textures
