'Drunk Girls' from their still-untitled album due out May 18th.

Orgasmic.

Preview of 'Pow Pow', too.

Ok, I'm officially crazy-psyched for this album. I can dance to this stuff like an adrenaline junkie (x) infinity.

Seeing these guys in about two weeks, I don't think I've been this psyched for a gig in a long, long time. The new stuff sounds amazing.

I hate to throw the word "masterpiece" around like it's nothing, but if the rest of the album is of this quality, well, if the shoe fits...

Also, James Murphy did the music for GREENBERG, the new Noah Baumbach movie. "All My Friends," easily one of the top ten songs of last decade, gets used amazingly well in the trailer.

Weird. The last album really didn't grab me at all. I know it's good, but I never played it more than 3 times I think, and I love electronic music. Maybe this one will be better for me.

The music for the GTAIV trailer brought them to my attention...rather like their work.

I'm in the same boat, actually. The overwhelming hype and praise kinda soured my initial expectations with Sound of Silver. But I definitely like that album, for sure. Maybe even love. 'Drunk Girls' and the minute or so of 'Pow Pow' that I've heard so far, are, ironically, what I wanted the songs on Sound of Silver to sound like. Just straight-ahead, infectiously mesmerizing slabs of dance delirium. Immediate satisfaction can sometimes be the best medicine.

I think (hope) LCD Soundsystem is gonna take it to an entirely new level with this new disc.

If you're like me, it's because Sound of Silver leans too much toward pop and gets away from dance-rock. I like it (All My Friends is one of their best), but I don't love as much as the first album.

I finally got 45:33 last week. It kinda fits in between the two albums in terms of style. It's pretty good.

And holy shit there' a new album coming out in may!?!

EDIT: I was listening to Pow Pow and I hadn't noticed it was on a loop. I was thinking Murphy was going a bit overboard with the song length.

They're streaming the album on their site.. I'm not a big fan (just like a couple of tracks but mostly indifferent) but I got the head's up so thought some would like to know: http://www.lcdsoundsystem.com/thisishappening/

I like this band and I like this album. All I Want is such a rip of both Heroes and Eno's early solo records, but none the worse for it. If you're gonna steal, may as well steal from the best.

Went to see these guys in Manchester a couple of weeks ago - absolutely awesome. 2nd time I've seen them live, and they remain one of the most memorable live acts I've seen. A 15 song-long set with a real mix of old stuff and a handful of new album tracks (no North American Scum though...)
James Murphy also made some cryptic remarks along the lines of "don't worry - we'll probably be coming back to play here again" so a glimmer of hope for them continuing past this album?
(also - support band YACHT were really good as well - not been a big fan before but one of those bands who've "clicked" with me once I've seen them live.)

I still don't hear the 'Berlin' influence. I'll give it a few more spins.

But OK, I'll say this - after LCD Soundsystem, groups may not songwrite about songwriting and the music industry and being cool. Please.

And damn, I could've seen YACHT a few months ago. They first caught my eye because their name is a perfect word to disassociate from its meaning.

Such a terrible, blanket statement. You sound like you're judging this important and influential musician (they're not really a group) on one song that you heard once. And I'm starting to doubt you've really heard the latest album at all since you don't see the 'Berlin Trilogy' influence and you're a self-proclaimed fan of Lodger.

Even if you have, you're acting as if LCD Soundsystem writes songs exclusively about writing songs in the music industry. As myself and others pointed out in the other thread you rudely created while ignoring this one, that's just not true. Their last album featured songs about growing older, the divide between trying to stay young while knowing you're growing older and what that means for your friendships, your family, your job and what you do for fun. Not to mention grief and gentrification. Those are pretty serious, non-hip/ironic subjects.

Maybe these are concepts you're not mature enough to understand. I don't know how old you are. I'm 31. I still love going to shows and going totally ape shit when I do, but it's getting to the point where I'm at the age where I'm starting to feel self-conscience about that. Many of my friends do too. So a song like "All My Friends," which is about the danger of growing up forcing you into isolation, is such a mature, poignant tour de force of a song once you realize what it's all about. It's the fucking opposite of hip. I honestly you're trying to be more hip (and, quite frankly, terribly flippant) by writing this band off as nothing more then hip and unfairly lumping their songwriting efforts into one broad category.

Basically, what this underlines is one of two things. 1) You're too crass to fairly and carefully listen to the songs and analyze the lyrics. Or 2) You're too unintelligent to gather meaning and importance from them.

YACHT's last album was excellent, but I don't get how you could like them and not LCD Soundsystem. Not that they're derivative so much, but the last album seemed heavily influenced by Sound of Silver. Could it be because YACHT doesn't have a big hipster following that you're not influenced by/judging?

I created a new thread because they released a new album. Delete my thread, I don't really care. I think you're being too touchy on this. I don't mean to insult Ray Abed. I'm a bit ignorant to him, I guess, if he thought this thread should be maintained for another couple months, in which case, sorry. But take it easy, Parker.

I know about LCD Soundsystem's tendency to make songs that are about the party, and the after party, and of course I've heard "Losing My Edge" and "All My Friends". But these songs don't sound very profound to me. I'm in my early twenties, but I've been able to love songs that are about the furthest end of the aging spectrum (ie. Johnny Cash's late period).

I didn't like YACHT very much from what I'd heard of them, but when Mintadon said they were better live, I regretted not seeing them when they were playing my city.

It's funny, I think I'd get along with you in person, Parker. I get as angry as you do about shit, and sometimes take shit too serious when I notice errors on web boards. But I swear to you I'm not a moron! I just don't care for LCD Soundsystem.

That kinda depends on whether or not you use the same non-arguments and blanket statements in person as you do on the internet. Don't take this the wrong way, Louse, but my feelings toward you are related directly to what you say and how you say them. That's the only thing I have to base my opinion of you on. You tend to make pretty huge generalizations about things, seemingly simply because you can, often when they're off-base, untrue or not properly thought out. That doesn't make me angry so much as I feel the need to propose a counter argument.

In short, I don't really care that you don't care for LCD Soundsystem. What bothers me is that you don't really seem capable of articulating why, nor do you seem to think that really matters all that much.

Let me put it another way: perhaps "All My Friends" doesn't strike you as particularly profound. Fine, I'll believe you on that one. I'll even give you credit for having listened to it more than once, having read the lyrics maybe. But it's your unwillingness to see how it could be profound to anyone else that's frustrating. This is a discussion board, not a place for people to just sound off. If you saw a movie with someone and they walked out thinking it was a piece of shit, but you loved it, wouldn't you want them to be open minded enough to at least try to see it from your point of view?

And keep in mind: I'd love to see this from your point of view. That's why I come to this place. But you haven't really presented a credible one. Almost your entire argument against Murphy is built upon the whole "hip/cool" bullshit, along with them being too self-referential or whatever. Not good enough, not for a discussion about music or a musician like this. There's infinitely more interesting things to say about him/them.

But please don't think I'm angry. The past four months have yielded better albums then the last two years combined. How could I be angry when that's happening? And I apologize if the fact that I constantly disagree with you makes it seem like I have some kind of vendetta or personal beef with you. It's not that. I just think you're frequently wrong, or in the very least, not good enough at articulating your strong, sometimes contrary opinions.

So LCD Soundsystem is playing their last gig today or tomorrow at Madison Square Garden.  It's supposed to be streamed online.  Anyone got a link and exact time?

Pitchfork Media is doing the webcast. LCD Soundsystem's last show is tonight, not tomorrow. The webcast starts at 9.

I was hoping to go out tonight, but between the Huskies game and this show being available to me, looks like I'll sticking around. Sad to see them go, one of my favorites of the past decade.

Figures that they retire just a few months after I discover them!
