fave episodes of Tales From the Crypt?

The Secret- Just an excellent self-contained little horror story. Has my favorite twist ending ever, and it even stars Larry Drake.

The New Arrival- rather freaky scenes of a little girl in a mask skipping around a house, almost reminiscent of Don't Look Now. Good claustrophobic locations.

Three's a Crowd- an extremely jealous guy takes his wife and their mutual male friend to a mountain retreat, with hilarious/murderous consequences. The look on the guy's face at the end when the "surprise" is revealed is absolutely priceless!

The Ventriloquist's Dummy- Richard Donner does a mini Evil Dead II Ash-fighting-his-own-hand tribute. Very black humour. Featuring Don Rickles and Bobcat Goldthwat (when he was still in Police Academy squeaky voice mode)

I just saw a DVD at Circuit City featuring a trio of eps directed by Robert Zemekis. I don't remember the titles, but one was the ax-murderer dressed as Santa Claus episode that scared the life out of me years ago. I might have to buy this one.

my favorites are "Yellow",which was in no way scary but still shocking in its own way,and the one with Morten Downey in the haunted house.that one is fan fucking tastic.i have several other favorites but if i tried to describe them i'd end up babbling and no one would understand so i'll just leave it at those 2.

All of those Zemeckis episodes were beautiful. I love his roving camera style.

I also liked the ventriloquist dummy and the Morton Downey Jr. episode. That one was actually pretty scary I thought.

As for episodes that haven't been mentioned, I liked the one with Miguel Ferrer as a jerk of a boyfriend who faces off against a zombie. While not particuarly exceptional in execution, it just had that classic feel.

And another I liked a lot but only saw once was one that Tom Hanks directed and had a bunch of zombies in it. It was made when he was still regarded as a comedy guy, and it was fun to see him play a jerk and get his head shoved through a tlevision set.

I think it was the first episode, I can't remember who directed it (it was either Fred Dekker, Frank Darabont or Zemeckis) and it was the Christmas Santa Clause episode. The escaped psycho dressed as old st. nick and stalks the woman and daughter in their home. THAT WAS AMAZING!!! I've only seen it once but my god was that sweet!

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Yes, that was a pretty good episode. Hey, if you're interested, you can check out an older version of that story in this older film (the woman was played by Joan Collins).

I still have the EC comic that had this story.

"Yellow" was awesome. Lance Henriksen never disappoints.

"Damn... damn... GODDAMN...!!!"

Also starring Henriksen and directed by Walter Hill.

Cutting Cards - my fave.

My favorite episode has always been the one that follows the same lines as 30 Days of Night; where some bad guys end up having to face vampires in the frozen North, and then realize that the sun doesn't rise when they think it's supposed to.

"And All Through The House..."...yup - absolutely stunning !!!

Fred Dekker's adaptation with Zemekis's missus Mary Ellen Trainor fighing against psycho Santa Larry Drake having just brained hubby Marshall Bell with a poker, Nat King Cole crooning away...*sigh*

...y'see kids, weehn we talk about what horror used to be like, THIS is what we're goddam talking about !!!

The Collins version in Milton Subotsky's '72 version with Raplh Richardson as the Cryptkeeper is quite fun in it's own way - but the versio in that on pales next to Peter Cushing's "Poetic Justice" segment...

I remember the "Cutting Card ep being pretty sweet as well...

When oh when do we get a series dvd dagnamit ?

I don't remember the title of the episode but one of the characters was a mortician who liked to would sing and talk to the body he was working on. He kept asking the body in a lovey-dovey way to smile for him. Well, at the resolution of the episode the camera pans quickly to the body and it's smiling. That creeped the hell out of me.

The old EC comic reprints are some of my favourite things in the world ever. Get a great big stack of them plus enough snacks & drinks, and I'd never leave the house. They're just pure entertainment. The HBO adaptions and the British film versions are great, but they're no subsitute for the original tales.

Just remembered another fave tv episode: "Fitting Punishment". Quite a creepy one- set at a funeral parlor, and directed by Tobe Hooper IIRC.

That was "Undertaking Pallor", another decent episode starring the always entertaining John Glover (reckon he'd make the perfect Joker in the next Batman film)

the one with Dave berry or similar name and he is a comic book drawer and his sktches come to life
The one you're talking about is called Korman's Kalamity, which stars Harry Anderson. Harry Anderson is his "real life" name. On television he played "real life" writer Dave Barry on the show Dave's World; however, as stated before, Dave Barry is not his "real life" name.

my fave is the either the one where a lady hires a medium to contact her (not so) dead husband... the psychic struggles, and finally makes contact... the wife laughs and calls her a fake, but later finds that her husband mysteriously died at the exact moment when the psychic made contact...
