One of the guys I directed in the film I did a few years back is in this (he's on Nurse Jackie now). He's really talented, and was cited in a couple of reviews -- including Ebert's -- as a stand-out.

Even those facts couldn't get me into the theater to see this.

Very cool, Mr Bandu!

I do feel sorry for Ms Thurman though. She is so cool and deserves greater recognition for it

Only one ticket in sales has to mean a failure in marketing.

No doubt... but it also does say something about her star power. If people cared about her they'd have known her movie was coming out by checking on IMDB or something

I like her, don't get me wrong, but this seems like a new Zyzzyx Road

A movie which clearly signaled the end of Katherine Heigl's career. What is she doing now? Working at Wal-Mart?

You're drawing a false equivalency between where Heigl was in her career at that point and where Thurman is now

No problem.

I'm curious what you would have said were it a US release though

Please tell me it's Thor.

No, it's Sam, the Indian intern.

About that time for Q.T. to come to the rescue.

I saw that this movie is going DTV here in the states, and I thought she still had theatrical cred. Unless this is a stop gap for her like it is for some other actors who get either supporting roles or the rare starring roles once they go theatrical again.

It got a theatrical release in the U.S. Not a big one, but it played New York and Chicago.

Hadn't even heard of it until I saw the advertisement at the Redbox. So I guess she hasn't entirely gone DTV yet.

Didn't Accidental Husband also get dumped? I had a friend that loved all the actors and wanted to see it, only to discover it hadn't been released on home video in the states. It took like a year.

Never even heard of this movie.

She's never been a box office draw. I don't think too many people flocked to Kill Bill solely because she was in it.

thats what happens when you're in My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

Just ask Luke Wilson.

She's also, apparently morphing into Tina Fey.

I'm not against a celeb making a buck, but doesn't he have about 50 of those AT&T commercials now? Either he's making a ton of bread, or they're some slave driving motherfuckers.

Uma has never been a constant bankable leading lady. Just the other day I saw a dvd on the shelf i'd never even heard of called Prime with Meryl Streep. She has made some really bad choices outside of Kill Bill over the last ten (or even 13 if you start with Batman and Robin) years. Who the hell is her casting agent?

This has started to happen a lot the past couple of years, and with stars who typically bring in a lot of box office. (look up Ben Stiller's 'The Marc Pease Experience' which did 3,000 its opening weekend)

Marketing budgets are tight and it's cheaper for studios to dump these marginal earners direct to video then to spend the money to get butts in the seats. For every 'Hurt Locker' there are a bunch of other small, well made films which can't afford attention. Heck, even Hurt Locker made relatively little.

I think Devin brought it up a few months ago, but the place for those mid range films that make 40-70 million is getting harder and harder to find for studios.

It was on OnDemand I think last week or so? It's probably still there. I didn't watch it, but I was tempted because I do like her. When I looked it up on IMDB tho, I couldn't bring myself to watch it. I don't hold it as gospel there for sure, but there wasn't any information out there for it.

I also use IMDB to look up all the indie / sundance films I don't recognize on OnDemand.

And being panned by the critics sure did not help Motherhood's chances.
