In which I continue my current trend of blogging about whatever I happen to be watching at the moment.
It's criminal that I have never seen ether Fright Night or it's sequal. I'm going to have to rectify that this weekend.

Great Blog.

I too kinda loved the "brospeak" as you put it. The actors did a good job of making their lingo and constant swearing come across as a bunch of kids playing at being tough which is perfect for these characters, something I've seen a fair number of people misinterpret as simply bad writing/acting.
That sums it up perfectly, man. Thanks for the tip! To be honest, if it handn't been for that blog, I doubt I'd have ever seen the flick.

You're becoming more and more Greg Dulliesque. This can only be a good thing.

Another blog already? And so soon? But it's not a holiday! Perhaps not officially, but I like to believe that every day is Arbor Day.

Hey, question to my message board readers! Which film would you rather hear me talk about next - Crank 2 or Margot at the Wedding? I've watched them both very recently but only feel like blogging about one (I'll be concurrently blogging about an interesting personal project that's kept me off the internets). Feedback appreciated and sorry for the hiatus.
Crank 2, please. I sense many a laugh either way, but especially if Crank 2 is involved.

I enjoyed your Silent Hill 2 entry, by the way. It reminded me of looking at previews of it back at school. My friends and I would gather around a magazine and all but drool over the graphics... presumably making sure no teachers caught sight of whatever beasts were pictured in the article. "How impressive is this PlayStation 2 gonna be when it finally arrives?" we pondered. "Look at the detail! Not all square like Dino Crisis!*" We were so easily pleased.

* The sequel to which rocked, incidentally.

Only Crank 2 for you Bobby Bear baby. But for now, whatever the fuck this is.

As for Silent Hill 2, keep tabs on the "Ten Favorite Games" thread on CHUD.com as it is one of the top ten. As far as games go, it is one of the best stories ever told, despite a lack of thrilling gameplay. Be that on purpose? Find out in Space Ace 3: The Dawn of Macadamia.

ETA: Yeah, I edited the link. What of it?

Probably another one coming when I wake up. Wherever I wake up, that is.

Excellent! Thanks, mate.

I don't read as widely in the Games Forum as I probably should, so cheers for that tip, too.

It's always great to come in here and find a new post. Be it long or short, under the influence/discussing being under the influence or not. Though, under the influence is a particular favourite of mine...

This kind of line is precisely why. Lookin' forward to your Stath coverage.

For a few bloggings more.

ETA: Hey, just curious, what other Chewers read this on the reg? I know I got my fanclub across the pond, but I'm just curious who digs the style? Please feel free to drop a line in this thread. Along with some constructive criticism (which I probably won't take, but it's worth a shot) or some ideas for posts.

ETA Part Deux: Having sobered up, I'll say that while I'd love to know who all actually reads this, any criticism (no matter how constructive) will be met with stabbing. That is all.

Better to come. The waiting game is harsh, but worthwhile.

Miss Shue's finest hour is still Adventures in Babysitting, nothing she does will ever top that.

Another fine brace o'blogs, Coombsy! I'm most definitely diggin' the letters. In fact, I think more From the Desk... and Falsified Celebrity Encounter Corner! (which I think I'll nickname "The Falsifieds") can only be a good thing.

Bakula altercations... "Bellisariocon"... "Paraguay rules" - the bar continues to be raised.

"Why not just wait and say this when you update?" You ask?

Well, excuse me for getting access to a computer and the internet and wanting to say hi!

YES! I almost posted a "what's up?" message twice, but didn't wanna hassle you. Now that your busyness has come to light, I feel pretty vindicated about that.

Congratulations on the job, by the way. Good luck with that and the diet/exercising.

P.S. I like that you checked in with a pre-blog post update. I've done the same thing repeatedly in my little corner of self-promotion.
Good stuff, and congrats on the job, now find me one!

There are people who enjoy that movie. A particularly clueless woman in a writing workshop I was in compared one of my stories (favorably!) to Mr. Woodcock. I wanted to die.
I have felt beige in my soul Mr Coombs, as recently as last night sitting throught the Sorcerer's Apprentice trailer for the third or fourth time. Luckily a young scamp called Scott Pilgrim burst onto the scene moments later and made everything alright again.

Another set of fine entries Coombs. Thankfully I to have not seen all of Mr Woodcock, I could feel the life drain out of me as the film progressed so I turned over and watched a crappy British Soap Opera instead (which was strangly more interesting).

As for the bag, I think some things are best left for other people to discover.

So wrong about Accepted. Hill and Long are on fire the whole movie.

"Pocahontas never went to college."
Thread Starter
Eh, it just doesn't work for me. I think I prefer Long in supporting roles where he can just walk in and steal the show. Zack and Miri being a good example (although he's about the only think I like in that one). Here, he was playing a character I just couldn't go for.

To be fair, it's been a good while since I've watched Accepted so who knows - it might hold up better than I remember. But I kinda doubt it. There were just a lot of little things that irked me.

On that note, here's an anecdote I didn't put in my blog:

When we saw this opening night, my group of friends consisted of a guy named Kyle. Kyle was the kinda asshole guy every gang of friends seems to have. The guy who's a bit of a douche, but he's your douche, so you tolerate him. You might not love hanging out with him, but you do anyway because he'll usually stir up some kind of craziness as the night goes on. I think Craig Robinson says something similar of Rob Corddry in Hot Tub Time Machine to throw in a random movie reference.

However you want to describe him, Kyle was NOT into the movie. He had this kind of angry scowl on his face the whole time, scoffing during various plot points (to his credit, it's a pretty stupid movie) and constantly groaning in disapproval. At movies end, we all expressed our vague sentiments about what we just watched and Kyle just lets out this exasperated cry:

"I just don't GET it. Why didn't they just go to community college!?"

The rest of us lost it and started laughing our asses off. I mean, this guy was ANGRY at Accepted. It's not that Kyle was particularly wrong, but it's one of those "there'd be no movie" plot problems that you have to gloss over.

So of course, from then on whenever we watched movies with Kyle, we'd always question why the characters didn't just go to community college, saving us the hassle of viewing their misadventures.

I suppose I could have just written a blog post about that, but in all honesty, I was just looking for an excuse to put up that Diora Baird screencap that lay unused in my photobucket account.

End rambling.

Oh you are very much in the right. I was actually a consultant on Under Siege for Erika Eleniak's cake-bursting scene. They were all about the authenticity on that one.

That's fantastic. You should totally make a future blog out of that.

NEW SECTION BONANZA BONUS FUN TIME!

Movies That Would Be Improved If, Instead of Having Their Protagonists Confront The Obstacle, They Went To Community College!

The first film I'd like to see featured? Dune.

Kyle MacLachlan is important. Something something Dourif stakes, goes to community college...

Also, Diora Baird is some woman alright. Makes me wanna watch Accepted again, even though I remember it to be thoroughly average. Maria Thayer might just swing it.

Once again a delightful read Mr Coombs. And damn that film for shitting all over a neat premise and wasting the talents of Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster and HFC's lithe physique. Damn it to hell.

Deception aside, a great blog. I was reading through looking foward to making the Dead Space comparison but you covered all bases Mr Coombs.

I feel like I am owed a Faculty blog, though. You have 24 hours.

Lovely stuff, Mr. Coombs. The only thing missing was a link to your now classic Alpha Blog in the line "...and the casting announcement of Ben Foster seemed spot-on, as the man does solid crazy."

You're in luck, as this immediately became my plan not long after I started the Pandorum entry. It'll be up some time between tonight and tomorrow.

I was this close to linking to that old blog but didn't out of sheer laziness. But then, when I started to jot stuff down for a Faculty entry, I thought about the Shawn Hatosy connection and was gonna link 'em all together there. Because if we do not remember Shawn Hatosy, who will?

I think it's safe to assume that we, the kind of people who appreciate Bellisario references, are the only sure things.

Pretty spot on assesment of the film. Having checked my DVD cover Mr Hatosy is indeed missing. And dispite my love for this film I had forgotton Usher was even in it.

Good Blog and a great read.

At the risk of sounding smug Hatosy is on my cover. I will happily swap with any of you if you wish.

Mr Coombs be sure to invoice me for that brilliant blog. How much do you charge?
