New Hollywood Boxset

Does anyone have any new info about this release? It was announced last year but there still isn't any release date or cover art up at amazon. I've had a hankering to revisit King of Marvin Gardens lately and have never seen Drive He Said or A Safe Place. Early Nicholson is great Nicholson. You know, when he used to act. And direct. And write.

I am fiending for a new box of great films since I finally finished devouring the Warner's Controversial Classics box (A Face in the Crowd is fucking amazing. The Cohens must dig on that movie). Any reccomendations while I wait for this sucker with baited breath?

Warners' Signature Collections are pretty good, as are their many Film Noir boxes. When it comes to classic films, WB seems to be the one company outside of Criterion that gets it right. I like how they make the effort to put commentaries on most of their discs, and also provide context.

I cannot recommend FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD: VOLUME THREE enough. It's all films of William Wellman, including WILD BOYS OF THE ROAD, which is just all sorts of amazing.

I also wanted to add Sony's BUDD BOETTICHER and SAMUEL FULLER sets, along with their FILM NOIR CLASSICS: VOLUME ONE (if for the awesome SNIPER and the pretty great THE LINEUP).

And yes, I also wish WB would finally get around to releasing the second set, but in the meantime, more great stuff abounds...

That's Baby Face, which is in TCM's Forbidden Hollywood Vol. 1.
