It's a testament to how truly terrible CLONES is that he's almost to the final chapter and he could probably still go strong for another five or six installments.

Loved the Dooku/Anakin/Obi-Wan video game.

But Lucas didn't have to cast him, or at least didn't have to cast him as Mace Windu. Plinkett's point about him being wrong for the role still stands, and he could very well be right about the reasoning for why Lucas went with him, campaign or not.

There's an Attack of the Clones video game?

Spending all night watching a highly anticipated event in tiny increments reminds me of trying to stream the Phantom Menace trailer for the first time.

Probably, but I was referring to The Force Unleashed (which, if I remember correctly, is officially canon except for the "evil" ending).

I so badly want to get through these reviews, but alas got a long day tomorrow so I'm going to bed.
I'm really enjoying this, so far, although the more-ambitious production values are more distracting than anything. I like how he's trying to relate his psychopath character directly to the star war craze, though. I can't help but think there's some commentary there on the sedentary, woman-fearing, unwashed masses of nerds out there.

I think that there's legal allowance to use movie footage for review purposes. This guy might be stretching that a bit. But since Paramount hasn't bothered him about his Star Trek reviews either, I think he's probably on solid ground.

I just finished part 8, and 9 isn't up yet. Gah.

I started to think that the cutaways about the captured woman were getting too creepy to be funny, but I love how the "story" progresses.

Come ooooooooooooonn

Will refreshing his youtube page every 5 seconds make part 9 come faster? I'm banking on yes...

I don't know, but I'm trying.

I don't know about you, but this is a great way to multitask on research papers. Nothing like blueballed frustration to get you back to work.

well then never mind

I'm suddenly seized with the urge to visit creepygif.com to view this gif animation.

I take it there's supposed to be something there.

I guess part nine will just have to be a good morning present.
Yeah, I guess the last part isn't going up tonight. I'm going to watch the PHANTOM MENACE review again

Quick link for part 9.

That ending...

It really feels the same as watching the middle installment of an awesome movie trilogy. The wait for part 3 is going to be painful.
I think the failings of AOTC pretty much crippled any chance for ROTS to be anything more than just going through the motions. If the third act's role was to see the downfalls of Anakin, his relationship with Padme and friendship with Obi-wan, you really needed to have established those things in the previous film.

I'm not sure if a review of ROTS is possible without constantly echoing the problems with AOTC. Though I could certainly see "Nooooooo!" being liberally intercut with many clips.
finally got around to watching this.

"Star Wars Episode II Attack Of The Clones is the worst thing ever created by a human being". The very first words you hear. Pure gold.
Haven't been reading the thread, so someone has probably mentioned it, but good call on squid-head and especially the tall-necked dude. Why the fuck is he a Jedi?

The best part of these is when a joke is kind of lame and he(they?) cut it off QUICK.
Fucking awesome. Piped it through to a big screen and broke a six pack out for it. The video game and "how to pick up a girl" scorecard sequences had me in tears. The amidala dominatrix outfit ... how did I not notice that before? "Anakin, our love cannot be .... now, get ready for your spanking."

He should do a theatrical run on the third one.
The Yoda montage in Part 9 is kind of heartbreaking.

And... I love you, Alex Rogan.

Overall, though, this is more franchise-specific and less focused on structure than the TPM review. And I'm surprised he didn't examine the ridiculous coincidences in the Mom-kidnapped-by-sandpeople subplot.
Granted, I haven't gone further, but 6 minutes, 30 seconds into part 8 might have been a great spot to fade to black on. We'll see.

*edit- forget I said anything.

Yes, and such a testament to the emotional effectiveness (and, admittedly, my nostalgic attachment to) the original trilogy, because I'd get goosebumps for a second every time it cut to Williams' score and Yoda speaking about the force with awe and wonder, then feel annoyed and sad when it cut back to some retarded shit from the prequels. But when it started cutting back and forth between Lucas saying stupid shit and Yoda looking annoyed and disgusted it was just funny.
Good stuff. Went a little overboard with the "girls in his basement" thing, but I really dug it.

The prequels are really bad, but I still prefer Revenge of the Sith to Return of the Jedi. Maybe it's just me. They're both very flawed but even the characters we know and love can't save Jedi for me(and the GREAT((best ever?)) space battle and duel). They're so bored.
Also, that shot of Yoda crawling through the vent is the best thing in the series.

A missed opportunity to splice in "Hear you nothing that I say?" there.
Holy shit. I just watched the teasers for the TPM/AOTC reviews. I think I know what I'm going to watch today.

The migraine thing is a bold statement for me. They seriously screw with my vision... much like... the Phantom Menace! Har har!

*edit- as good a time as any to mention... nice to see your avatar from my stupid "Let's miscast Buscemi!" thread come back, Hammerhead. I love that PS job.
The migraines do screw with my vision, but Return of the Jedi makes me wish I were blind. The headaches win.
Yeah it too me many years to realize how bad that movie actually is. Like I said before, even with the great characters, that movie isn't very good. Maybe on par with Sith.
Watching this now. Currently halfway through part 2.

For the record, I don't hate Clones but still have come to see it as the weakest prequel, and a compromised piece of work from Lucas. Still, there's stuff I enjoy, and it's not as completely unwatchable as stretches of Return of the Jedi are for me.

That said, this is the prequel I was looking forward to seeing torn a new one, and the bit about the audience not being able to relate based on this being a mostly sexless universe is astute as hell.
Oh man, Yoda's face intercut with George's statements killed me. Clones may be my most-watched SW movie cuz it's so fantastically, epically, almost unbelievably bad on every level.

Which includes my favorite WTF of the film, casually leaving her in slavery for ten years, because "dreams pass in time."
He tore apart the Yoda/Dooku fight as expected, but not in the way I thought he would. And he still had a good point. How awesome would that scene have been if Dooku had been flailing about being all Jedi and Yoda schools him by just calmly standing there?

And yes, Empire Yoda reacting to Lucas was probably the highlight, and the best summation of how Lucas lost sight of what his own creation was about.
I still prefer Clones to tPM, and that may all be due to a simple sound effect(you know it, you love it!).

That bit was part of what annoys me, though: the conceit that fans know what Lucas wanted Star Wars to be more than he does. He has valid points, but this alsovalidates my belief that Lucas never took any of this shit as seriously as everyone else. I flipflopped on it for years, but I'm pretty well on the side of the Yoda lightsaber fights being pretty cool. Clones and Sith handle it as classy as humanly possible. And as the review says, they show him actively trying to use the lightsaber as a last resort.

Besides, not establishing Yoda's fighting style in Ep II means we'd have been denied the Palpatine fight in III. Screw that.

It was practically profound. And it made me more than a little sad. These reviews are amazing.

Palpatine buying a Lotto ticket cracked me up.

Good call on the Yoda the Hedgehog stuff, Andre.

Always loved the line, "Luminous beings are we. Not this crude matter!"

Followed up by, "This weapon is your life!" Hahahahaha.

All of his suggestions about which characters should be actually doing such-and-such felt really spot on.
That Yoda montage is great stuff.

Actually enjoyed this one a lot. Mostly because he spends more time critiquing the film on its own terms, not as a constant comparison to the OT. Clones is more ripe for that than TPM, but still.

Well when you sum it all up like that then no wonder she fell in love with him in the space of like, a week..

Fucking hell I hate Episode 2.

He mentioned in an interview that quick cuts are probably his favorite form of comedic editing, and I can see why; they make a good gag better by forcing it to not be labored (as well as adding a quick bit of awkward abruptness), and hilariously mercy-killing the bad ones.
