The Last Castle (2001)

I kind of like this film. I think Gandofini is totally wrong for the role of Col Winter but Redford was a great choice for Irwin. You can buy that people would follow him without question and he does a great job of playing a guy who has given up.

Roger Ebert raises a very good point in his review that Irwin is just as bad as Winter for his treatment of the prisoners. I totally agree, he couldn't care less about Winter until things affect him directly, then he manipulates their respect of him to get exactly what he wants.

There are some gaping plot holes in this film (how did they make the weapons for example) but on the whole it was a good Bank Holiday afternoon watch.

No review of this film has encouraged me to actively seek it out. But I'm pretty sure I'll end up seeing it somehow, like the Rush Hour movies. Redford lost interest in acting, didn't he?

Maybe Im in the minority, but I thought Gandolfini was fantastic in this.

And yeah, when I first saw them roll out the catapult, I almost shat myself.

For a few moments I thought the catapult was a mobile flag pole that they were going to use to raise the flag, when I realised what it was I had the same reaction as you.
