Video Game Consoles you have owned.

Thread Starter
I thought it might be interesting to see what the most popluar consoles Chewers have owned are. Plus it's a gret way to make some of us feel old.

(in order)

Phillips Video pack (i'm willing to bet I was the only one)
Atari 2600
Amstrad CPC 464 (Tecnically a console as it did bugger all else)
Sega Master system 2 Jnr
Super Nintendo
N64
Sony playstation
Sony Playstation 2
Microsoft Xbox
Sony Play Station Portable
Nintendo Wii

I currently own both a 360 and a ps3.

So anyone else up for this?
Yep, Ken... you might be right in being the only one to own the Phillips Video pack. =)

This thread really gets my brain thinking (run).

As I've said before, a pretty much grew up alongside the video game era. My parents owned one of the first PONG consoles that the Sears department stores were selling. From there it went a little something like this:

Atari 2600
Atari 7800
NES
SNES
Gameboy
N64
Playstation
Gamecube
PS2
Game Boy Advance
DS
DS Lite
PSP
Wii
PS3
WIZ (a new portable device that allows you to load and play emulators on it)
Atari 2600
NES
PS1
PS2
Xbox
Xbox360
Wii (now sold off)

That's all - I've been fairly picky, considering my devotion to gaming (I even work in the industry).

My favorite gaming machine wasn't even a console, it was the Commodore Amiga. As a contmeporary of the NES, it took until the PS1 for a console to surpass it (and most of the PS1's great Euro titles came from Amiga developers).
Colecovision
Atari 2600
Atari 7800
NES
SNES
Gameboy
Gameboy color
Sega Genesis
Sega CD
Sega 32x
N64
Playstation
Gamecube
PS2
Game Boy Advance (both types)
Gameboy micro
DS
DS Lite
PSP
Xbox
360
Wii
PS3

We had Macs when I was growing up so the gaming options were limited to consoles.

The Amiga was pretty big when I was a teenager. I had a CPC 464 however because they were cheaper.
Well, let´s see: I owned the N64. And now the PS3. Yeah. That´s it. Nothing to see here. Move on people.

NES
Genesis
PS1
N64
PS2

I always end up buying the systems near the end of their runs (didn't get a PS1 until 2002), but I've promised myself a PS3 if I can get my MA degree.
Although technically it wasn't a console, the commodore64 was pretty much the most popular game machine over here during the '80s, so yeah.. had one of those.
Then a biiiiig gap completely skipping over the first & 2nd generation Nintendo & Sega machines, until around 2000, when I picked up a Dreamcast on the cheap. Still fire that one up once in a while, for Powerstone, Jetset Radio or Zombie Revenge.
From then on, it has been:
-PS2 (still my favourite machine, I still play it a lot & doing quite some replays of the games I really liked or didn't quite finish first time around)
-Gamecube (their good titles are some of the best of that gen (Metroid Prime!) but collection is far too limited)
-XBox (never quite got into it)
-PS3 (didn't mean to get one, then a good friend surprised me with it on my birthday)

And I had a retro collection for a while, until I got fed up with moving them & realized emulation is close enough for me to the real thing):
-Atari VCS2600 (wooden finish, still have it- couldn't part with it!)
-Philips VIDEOPAC (weird system)
-NES
-SNES
-Sega Master System
-Sega Megadrive

I'm more of a PC Gamer, but lately i've gotten a few Consoles..

NES
SNES
PS1
XBox 360 (Wedding gift)
PS3 (Free when we bought at new TV)

That's about it. I'll get a Wii sooner or later...

Why not?

Let’s see, in rough chronological order:

NES
Original Gameboy
SNES
Sega Genesis (and Sega Channel!)
Game Gear
Sega CD
32X
Sega Saturn (both American and Japanese versions)
PS1
Gameboy Color
PS2
Dreamcast
Gameboy Advance SP
Nintendo DS
PSP

Now those above I’ve owned-owned flat out. Not that this technically counts or anything, but if I want to be an anal-retentive completionist about my whole gaming history, the following consoles I’ve also played literally about as extensively as if I’ve actually owned them anyhow, be it through close friends and neighbors, people I’ve lived with, family, etc. Some of them I've borrowed for long, long, long periods of time, some I've had "joint custody" of. In one form or another, many of these have been in my house and readily at my disposal at one time or another for extended numbers of months or even years, in spite of them technically not being mine in the strictest sense of ownership. May or may not count to some of you but whatever, this is just me being obsessive compulsively all-encompassing about my console history.

Again in rough chronological order:

Atari 2600
Neo-Geo
TurboGrafx 16
Atari Jaguar
Turbo Duo
Panasonic 3DO
Phillips CD-i
Atari Lynx
Sega Master System II
Virtual Boy
N64
Neo-Geo Pocket
Gameboy Advance (original)
Xbox
Gamecube
Xbox 360
Wii
DS Lite
PS3
DSi

I was going to include this one, but wasn't sure if it counted since it could also serve as a computer. But yeah, I really only played games on it. My parents bought it for me so I could use it for school as well, but since our school and almost everyone I went to school with had the Apple IIe, I was kinda shit out of luck for being able to transfer my reports to school.

A brief history of my consoles...

- NES: My first system, and one that my father played equally if not more than I did. At some point it just disappeared, never to be seen again.

- Sega Genesis: This is where I first really got into video games. Most notable moment was my mom going out of her way to find the code to turn the blood on in Mortal Kombat. If that's not good parenting, I don't know what is. Later, I got that ridiculous 32x add-on.

At the same time on the portable front...

- Game Boy: Had this until my dad dropped it down the stairs during a particularly frustrating game of Tetris.

- Game Gear: He bought me this to replace the Game Boy, and its colors and backlight were awesome for the ten minutes you got to play it before it drained the billion batteries it ran on.

Back to consoles...

- N64: Great system, but it will always be marked with sadness. I went away to camp at one point and my parents figured that since I had this, they could sell the Genesis. Which they did at a garage sale, with all of my games...for $10. Still have the N64, though, and occasionally bust it out to play some Mario or Star Fox.

- Xbox: I was one of the only people I knew who went this route first before the Gamecube (I had skipped over any Sony consoles at first) and was not disappointed. A lot of die hard Nintendo-fan friends thought I was crazy, but they quickly got on board.

- Gamecube: Thus, many of my friends who bought Gamecubes were a bit let down, one of whom sold me his for $75 not long after he got it because he was desperate to unload it. The handful of quality titles made this worth it.

- Xbox 360: The main console I play on today.

- PS2: Bought this around the same time as the 360 so I could play some older PSX and PS2 games. One of my better purchases.
Atari 2600 - I still have it (with 2 joysticks and 2 sets of paddles) and it still works. I've got something like 40 cartridges for it, too.
Vectrex - Broke a long, long time ago. This thing was great.
Sega Genesis
Sony Playstation 1
XBox - Won it free from the Taco Bell promotion
XBox 360

Anyone else have (or even remember) the Vectrex?

To this day I swear the Gamcube's best game of all time was Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. I have never played a game since that has been able to do what that game did. The sanity meter was frikkin' awesome. The fact that the surroundings (and the game itself) would start fucking with your character (and even you) the lower your sanity meter got made the whole game worthwhile. Plus, it had some really good replay value (if you played it three times using the three different magic types you eventually got the ultimate ending). This game gave me the wiggins worse than Resident Evil 2. When you start hearing random wailing and crying coming out of your rear speakers and you aren't expecting it, you freak out. That game was just a great experience, over all. It's a shame that the planned sequel(s) never came about.

Atari 2600
Colecovision (w/2600 Adapter. You could use it to plug Atari cartridges into the Colecovision and control them with the Coleco controller.)
NES
Atari Lynx
Sega Genesis
Playstation
Gameboy Color
(the lost years, devoted to PC gaming, go here)
Xbox
Xbox 360
Wii
PS3

You can see that beyond the NES, I missed out on Nintendo's golden era. I also came *this close* to getting an Atari Jaguar. Bullet: dodged.

Would a Merlin count as a handheld? It did play more than one game!

I got mine for free, actually. In 2004, I was in Buffalo for a wedding between college friends. A fiance of another college friend and I were discussing video games. I'd mentioned that I had wanted to pick up a used N64, just for Goldeneye and a few other games (Starfox, Rogue Squadron).

His response: "I have one, do you want it?"

A few weeks later, I went to the local used game store and they had Goldeneye for $7. I went back a few years later, looking for some PS2 games and their copy of Goldeneye was selling for $30.

Sadly, I seem to have lost Goldeneye, as it wasn't in my pile of N64 stuff the last time I checked before I left Rochester.

Oh man, I remember Merlin! I had one when I was a kid.

I would totally count it, but I would also probably count the old school Tomy handhelds that played football, basketball, etc.

It's missing a couple, I think. I know for a fact I owned a Tiger version of NARC at one point.

Also, I don't think Tiger did them, but a handheld LCD version of Gradius found its way into my possession, too. It was way bigger vertically than the Tiger ones, which was great once my hideous growth spurts started, and my hands didn't match the rest of me.

I didn't have nearly the number of games for the Saturn I should have. I mostly ended up with a shit ton of fighting games: Night Warriors, Alpha 2, King of Fighters 98, Fighters Megamix, Ultimate MK3. Only non fighters I actually owned and didn't rent were Nights, Shinobi Legions, and Legend of Oasis.

Also, HOLY SHIT, I FORGOT TO MENTION MY DREAMCAST.

I...am dishonored.

Tell me that list is in order and you bought these years after the fact. Because if you actually owned one of these when they were still in general release, and you ever actually paid $200 for a cartridge, you may have to be slapped at some point.

So the Atari 2600 is looking pretty popular, I guess that was pretty much everyones route into consoles.

I think we should have some sort of total at the end of this to see which were the most popular consoles.

Well, at least you learned a valuable lesson that day.....i think.
How much different your life would had been had you gotten the Nomad; i mean aside from going broke from buying batteries.
Also, Im hoping no one owned any of these.

EDIT: Seems Judas actually owned a Vectrex...Im tempted to ask what was his favorite color screen cover.

I refuse to believe soem of these even existed; the Epoch Cassete Vision cant possible be something that was actually designed for human entertainment.

Yep, I remember my aunt picked up a 7800 in the early 90s. Simple, but a lot of fun. I particularly liked Pole Position.

There are times that I'm glad my brother and I didn't have jobs until during our college years, and this is one of them. Because I'm absolutely sure we would have blown a couple hundred on the 32X to complement our Genesis.

I dunno. Owning a 32X did mean I got to play Knuckles Chaotix. But on the other hand, shit, if I could use an adapter instead of the 12,000 batteries it needed, I could still go for a portable Genesis.

The adpter would had been nice to playing in bed or anywhere, but the battery pack lasted less than the batteries and took a lot of time to recharge.

I'm heartened to see that nobody was rich and/or dumb enough to buy a Phillips CD-i or a 3DO. Interactive CD-ROMs were the future! And you only had to spend close to a grand in 2010 dollars!
