Video Game Consoles you have owned. - Page 2

No N-Gages yet, either.

Trav's post is a good jump off for this question: How many of these systems do you still own that still work?

My NES is senile, but keeps tickin. Just can't get it to play my copies of Tetris or Mario 3. My Genesis works, but freezes sporadically on graphic intensive stuff (Sonic and Knuckles and Shinobi 3, mostly). My Sega CD is dead. My PS1 is rotting in my mother's basement, but I don't need it, so screw it.

My SNES and N64 work like I bought them yesterday. Though the SNES has turned a sickly, dusty, yellowish color over the years in storage.

My N64 still works and it at my best friends house - we still pull it out from time to time to relive drunken glory. My mothers (see my latest blog) Commadore 64 still works as well. I bought an Atari 2600 at a car boot sale a few months ago but couldn't get it working.
Everything was sold off/traded in or lost in moves. I only own the current-gen systems.

Funny enough, there was a short period where me and my two best friends all had the Genesis, and we were spending more time with Bonk, Splatterhouse, Keith Courage, Devil's Crush, and Dragon Spirit (which especially got a workout because I owned and was only aware of the NES version) than anything else.

That period was maybe 3 months long, though.

My Atari 2600 still works...at least, it did the last time that we hooked it up a few years ago. We played a couple rounds of 'Kaboom!!!' and had a blast with it. I also played a round or two of 'Adventure'.
My NES is a bit wonky (and I donated most games to charity back in the day), all the snes/genesis got bought by my cousin, and my Gameboy color is in perfect working order.

I played "Adventure" on the 360`s Gameroom a few days ago; it was like this:

"Okay, moving around, moving around HOLY FUCK DRAGON NONONO....game over"

Yeah, the HARD version of the game is not for new players. Did you ever find the Easter Egg?

If the easter egg was getting raped by a decades old game, then yes, i sure did.

I have zero recollection of what happened to the 2600. Possibly given away after the 5200 arrived (which added to the tragedy and drama, no doubt).

Last year I nostalgically hooked up the Genesis and Sega CD to the old bedroom SDTV, and found they both still worked just fine if a heavy weight was pressed down on the cartridge and the output cord. Ah, Shadowrun and Lunar.

The SNES and PS1 I gave to a friend as I got next-gen stuff, and he sold them off within months both times because, as I found out later, his wife told him to.

I still have the PS2 hooked up -- it was my DVD player for years! -- but it was getting squirrelly around when I got the 360. Haven't turned it on in a year, should just pack it away.
So, in retrospect, which console's collection still holds up for you, in this day and age? I find myself playing a lot of SNES games (emulated) and enjoying them immensely. I might consider it the best console ever, judging from the amount of games that are still enjoyable after all those years. Same with NES. Also, with a PS3 at home I still play the hell out of my PS2 games, and I don't envision them becoming out of date anytime soon.
On the other hand, a lot of those Commodore games that I used to play the crap out of (esp. when I still had only a tapedeck- once that sucker was loaded no way you wouldn't get at least a few hours' play out of it) have aged miserably. Lord, the crappy game mechanics I put up with in those days.

Is it only me, or did everyone got into a "Shadowrun is better on the Snes/Genesis" argument back in the day.

Dickson! My brother in Odyssey2-hood. Fancy a game of K.C. Munchkin!?

Anyway:

Odyssey 2
Atari 800 (technically a computer, but what a fucking awesome game machine. My favorite.)
NES
Game Boy
SNES
Game Boy Advance
(PS1/PS2 not owned, but mooched off of roommates)
N64
Xbox
Dreamcast (holy shit, I *also* forgot to mention this until I was reminded in the thread!)
Nintendo DS
Xbox 360
Wii

I gave my SNES from 1991 to my sis while I found one that doesn't have the plastic pieces that eventually go beige. Still an ugly console though.

Justin, $200 would be a very low price compared to what some of the games go for now. A co-worker of mine has a sick collection of neo games that go for $1000s. He has his collection insured for about 50K.
Haha, yeah, I still have my original SNES and it's piss-yellow now. I still have a couple of my old consoles although only the NES is hooked up.

I still have dozens and dozens of NES games and even though they take up too much goddamn space I have a really really hard time parting with them. Besides the nostalgia overload, NES games are the only video games I still find relaxing to play. The muscle memory kicks in and you just cruise. Ironic, of course, considering the heart attacks they almost gave me when I was twelve.

Gameboy Color/Advance.
I could play Tetris, MGS:GB, Mario Tennis/gold, Zelda; link's awakening and castlevania for agaes to come. Same with the Advance Castlevania games and snes ports (I need to get that SMB3 advance cartridge back).
I should probably sell my copies of Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger to some poor sap. Super Metroid is forever corrupted because I used a Game Genie to have the hyper beam from the start and for some reason, Chrono Trigger is forever broken because Crono attacks automatically in every battle.
Anyone know if we have a dedicated Videogame music thread? had no luck with the searches, and thought it would be cool to have a thread to disscuss it by series/console.

My neighbor across the street had a TurboGrafx. None of the other kids at school had one. Splatterhouse was the shit.

The only reason I'd like a functioning Genesis is because I have Tecmo Super Bowl (the 1993 version with three years worth of schedule, not just one). Any suggestions for emulators that'll put the idea to bed?

100% The SNES/Genesis battle was a golden age.

Plus I'm not sure any of my systems have broken down (you know except my PS3 and 360-3 times).

I believe Gens is the go-to emulator of choice. No idea how well it behaves with Windows 7, though. I tried a Genesis emulator a few years ago (can't remember if it was Gens) and it seemed to work perfectly for the games I tried, so I don't think there are significant issues with Genesis emulation.
My count is two
Turbo Grafx 16
PS2

I play my roomates PS3 whenever I can, and have bought games for it.

I just helped my dad clean out the old house and found the Turbo that had been packed away for at least 15 yrs. I fired it up and all the games worked (Bonks revenge, Vigilante, Keith Courage, and Dungeon Explorer). So I put it on Kijiji for $40 bucks and it sold right away. I was pleased until people came trying to buy it and I realized I could have sold it for double.

I recently got the Genesis collection for the PSP.
Holy hell, i had forgotten how good Phantasy Star IV was.
Also, Comix Zone has no right being this hard, dammit.

Indeed. I don't think I played an SNES until my college roommate dug out his system in our sophomore year (1998). I was impressed.

Thanks, sir! I'm running on a four-year old laptop that has XP, so I should be okay. How does the button configuration work on a PC joystick?
You can program the buttons, even the pad, however you want. Play around, see what works. Go nuts.
I've never had much interest in replaying older games. The tech, narrative and design has improved so much over the years, it's difficult for me to go back to my childhood when I enjoyed games with no tutorial, no map, and no learning curve.

I think most Amiga games followed this process:

Step 1: insert 3.5" disk
Step 2: watch incredible 30fps movie-like cutscene spool off a 3.5" disk in an era when the 2nd-best cinematics were the NES having a clipart ninja bounce around the screen
Step 3: press the (only) joystick button to start the game
Step 4: RAPE

NES
Gameboy
SNES
Gameboy Advance (for my mom to play Tetris)
Gameboy SP (the clamshell one, right?) (also for my mom to play Tetris once the Advance wore out)
Nintendo DS (friend got it for me despite the fact that I was never interested in it)
PS3 (more to stream movies and blu-rays)

I was hardcore anti-Sega when I was a kid? Genesis does what Nintendon't!? FUCK YOU AND YOUR BLAST PROCESSING VOODOO!!!!

PS: Does anyone still have piles of old Nintendo Powers in their house? Remember those Super Mario and Zelda comics? I wasn't much into comics, but I LOVED those.

I had the Nintendo Power special issue that was all about Super mario bros 3.
Fuck yes, i loved that thing.
Ran into an ancient relic of a Sega Visions magazine when I was hunting for my SNES at my mom's house last time I was there. That was a half hour of laughs right there.

On the flipside, I also found my old NES Game Atlas, which, for all intents and purposes, was The Bible of my pre-pubescence.
(referring to ryoken's post about the Super Mario Bros 3 guide)

Ugh, so did I. And I haven't been able to find that strategy guide for years. I was reading and re-reading that thing in the bathroom ALL THE TIME. I also thought the guide for Ninja Gaiden II (with comic segments!) was really cool for a game I never really played.

Remember getting that 'special' video cassette in the mail that was a preview for Donkey Kong Country? It just came out of nowhere. That was pretty exciting. I think the video also had a split second glimpse of Killer Instinct as an easter egg at the very end.

For me, it's no question that the SNES era was the high point of video games.
I just remembered that we also had one of those original yellow PONG machines (like Wall-E plays with). I don't know what happened to it...I think we got rid of it when we got the Atari 2600, but I'm not sure.
Anyone who wants to revisit those old issues of NP (among others) should check out Retromags. You probably still have to donate, but it's worth it.
I subscribed to Nintendo Power (and its predecessor, the Nintendo Fun Club News) for an embarrassingly long time. At some point they were all thrown out, although i still have the first issue of NP (with Super Mario Bros. 2 on the cover).

Fun fact: A couple of years ago a friend of mine wrote the script for a (terrible) DS game, and she was interviewed by Nintendo Power, which necessitated my first purchase of the magazine in about twelve years. I think I was more impressed by that than her actual TV writing gigs.
No one ever owned a 3DO, or CDi? Neither did I!

My systems:
NES
GAME BOY
GENESIS
SEGA CD
SEGA 32X
GAME GEAR
SNES
PS1
PS2

Glad to see I wasn't the only one hoodwinked by the 32X. I did enjoy playing DOOM(didn't have a PC in my house), and BLACKTHORNE on it, though.
I stopped subscribing to NP when I was 9 or so and started reading Game Players cuz I was becoming a MATURE GAMER.
Is Nintendo Power still being published? I'd always assumed it disappeared a long time ago.

I always liked how dorky the magazine was. Then it started to try too hard to have an 'attitude' or something. I think it was the issue with The Adventures of Batman & Robin on the cover. A new fancy CG logo and a much more haphazard layout. Didn't like it. Never renewed my subscription. Hahaha.

Can't see it at work, but if that site has issues of Game Players in there from the height of their psychotic humor era, I may have to call out the rest of the week.

There are a few issues from those days. Most of it was in the letters section when it was ran by that Bill guy. The whole magazine was horribly 90's.

Funny how my NES still freaking works, yet I fear the Red Ring when ever I turn on my X-Box.

Selling my SNES was stupid as well, it's something that I still regret. Any why the hell do they all turn piss yellow?
I will attempt to list them all in the order they were purchased

Tiger Electronics Inspector Gadget hand held
N64
Gameboy pocket
Gameboy color
SNES (which I only had one game for)
PS2
Game Boy Advance (which I only purchased one game for)
Gamecube (which I only purchased one game for)
Xbox
Xbox 360
IIRC, a flame-resistant chemical in the plastic mix was overused a bit and would eventually discolor the plastic after prolonged exposure to heat, light, and air. Nintendo eventually perfected the mix, so my SNES is probably one of the newer ones.
I got my SNES when it still came packaged with TWO CONTROLLERS (aw yea) and Super Mario World. It is indeed piss-yellow, except for that section right around the slot for the game cartridges.
Atari 2600
NES
Game Boy
Genesis
SNES
N64
PS1
PS2

I've fallen way behind on my gaming in recent years and just use my PS2 as a DVD player these days. I'm debating whether or not I should upgrade to a PS3 this summer or hold off until I finish my Master's and have more free time. I'm itching to play "God of War III," though.
PC Engine Turbo Duo here! Other gaming machines:

Commodore 64
Commodore Amiga
Sinclair Spectrum
NES
SNES
N64
Game Boy and GBColor
Gamecube
Wii
Genesis
Sega CD
Dreamcast
Bandai Wonderswan
PS1
PS2
PS3
also, somewhere collecting dust is a custom made "supergun" game machine (lets you plug Arcade game boards into it, and play with infinite continues)

I was SERIOUS fucking gamer when I was younger. Now I barely have time to play anything.
